These were done from various times spanning from several months ago to not too long ago. Here is it in a nutshell. I'm working on my own comic here "Shadowgirls" which will be debuting sometime this spring. During the page works I did up these little things just to have a little fun. Kind of an idea of "What if I had developed the Shadowgirls" in different era? Like what would my mind set have been and stuff...

Basically a mental exercise for fun. And I thought I should be less of a stranger and post more artwork. So here's the "Ages of Shadowgirls" (Which once again, all but one have nothing to do with the actual comic.)

And if you seen any of these before... I apologize. I honestly haven't keep track of what I've shown or not.

Like all Golden Age heroes and heroines, she wore brigth colors witha name like Shadowgirl. :P Me and the writer liked this one enough that as far as the book goes, this actually happened. Moving on:

Taking cues from the Silver Age. Not exactly easy to retro-design your artwork to draw "older' if that makes any sense. THis is my writer's favorite. I'm impartial.

The Vertigo / British Invasion of books from the 1980. THis seems to be the favorite of most people.

Ah yes... Extreme Studios... You know, it's harder to try to draw badly on purpose than you would think it is!

Not quite a Manga Style, but it was late and I was tired.

I had to do one in the style. I'm not 100% happy with it and I'll probably redo it more with a "Timm-like" go at her.

I figured I needed to try somethig with a more realistic slant to it, so this was done with heavy photographic references, much like a lot of Ultimate Books seem to have. Honestly if not for the fact I actually like drawing in the style I do, I would probably adopt this one as my regular style.

And of course the current incarnation:

That's it. Hope you enjoy them guys and gals.:)

Fantastic stuff. These period covers show off your versatility and keen eye for detail. I particularly like your Vertigo-styled cover. It's the most distinctive one of the bunch.

Lovely. I especially like issues one and two (although the camel-toe on issue one is outrageous!) Tell me, did you use Photoshop filter for the "zip-tone" effect on issue one? If so, which one?

Looking forward to seeing more! :)

Wonderfully professional work D. But then who is surprised. Love the flux of genre orientated styles. Makes me feel nostalgic.

Thanks all... I appreciate it. :)

It's kinda funny... I did all these just for the hell of it, and somehow they got worked into the comic's story. (Of course I'm sure my writer loooooved me throwing this stuff at him!)

Frozen, the color "half tone" affect is done in a filter in photoshop that's been there since 4.0 (I use 7.0) called the "Color Halftone". It pretty much converts the entire layer into color halftone. You just got to adjust the dots size and the spacing to what you need, but it's really wasy to figure out and quite way to do those 1980's black and white "ziptone" effects.

You know, I realized I forgot the "Ultimate" version. So I edited the original post and included it up there.

Thanks for the tip, Machina. Did I mention I was a techno-lackwit..? :o

Nice Ultimates, BTW. Did the writer dump and/or b*******ze nearly half a century of backstory and swap it all for some techno/science posturing for that one, or just make the main character a Shaft clone for no good reason? :p

Hey no problem. I'm not exactly a techwhiz myself. I mean, I can work the programs, but I'll be damned if I can do much more than that.:D

As for how he worked it all in there... Other than the Ultimates one and the Animated one, they're all different characters. (The Ultimates and Animated one are just done for fun. Not really "existing" in this universe.) Seperate characters with a connection to the previous.

The idea I went for when making is was not just to make a version for different ages, but what would my mentality be for making those versions if I was around at that time. I guess the best way to explain it is this. While it all works as part of the story, it's not THE story. In otherwords, if you want to look at it as part of a giant greater universe you can, but in the end... The last one at the bottom (Shadowgirls) takes precedence over all.

Hopefully that explains your question. :)
