View Full Version : TV.Com problems

I'm suprised if anyone here doesn't know what TV.Com is. Well I've got a nice little story to tell....

Back when Tv.Tome was changed into Tv.Com I was one of the many people who was angry about it being changed and argued about it too as the user Hatecnet. After the fighting calmed down I got over it and became any other user.

Although I never used any of the features on the site I did write a few reviews and posted around but after the forum I was using here stopped having anything to post about I stopped coming here for about a month or two. I came back just a little while ago because I wanted to post again (Duh!) but noticed whenever I tried to get onto the forum it would loop me back to the main page. When I tried to make a review it told me banned users cannot review. When the hell did I get banned?

I know I haven't posted anything to get me banned so I thought it was because of my user name and got banned before anyone took the time to see I was a normal user even if I have a hateful name because of the whole Tv.Tome thing.

At first I really didn't care if I was banned I would just make a new account with a new user name that wouldn't make them think I'm ban worthy BUT they banned my new account again before I could post anything. Now I was angry because they banned me without even sending a PM or Email telling me OR telling me why they banned me SO I sent an email to them asking me why they banned me when I did nothing wrong except have a hateful user name that doesn't mean anything anymore anyway.

Guess what! They ignored my email!

Now I was getting really angry, they banned me even after I did nothing wrong, won't let me make a new accound, WON'T let me join in any of the other sites they have, ignored me when I tried to get it worked out, and make it impossible to post about it on the forum they have.

Now since I found out I can't join other CNet sites I want this ban off me. Can anyone on here help me? I'm about ready to contact an Adm on the Tv.Com forum and I might actually not get ignored this time.

Besides look at this from the ban FAQs:

Q: Being banned permanently is unfair! I learned my lesson and won’t do it again.
A: A permanent ban is a drastic step, which is why we usually give users sufficient warnings and one suspension before it reaches that point. The time to learn your lesson is during the warnings and your first suspension – not after you get banned.

A DRASTIC step and yet I had done nothing in my posts or reviews to get me banned. I wouldn't call that drastic enough to be banned.

Q: What if I did nothing and the system screwed up, and I’m banned?
A: Very rarely, something unfortunately does go wrong. If you feel you were erroneously banned from TV.com, send an email to: support@tv.com. Do not create a new ID.

I did that and you ignored my email.

Well if you want other people's take on this, you should just let it well enough alone. CNet doesn't deserve you.

Despite all the hate for TVTome and TV.com, I've used the site countless times for information. I even contribute to the MST3K episode guide. But most of the site is just trash that I try to ignore. Most (not ALL, but MOST) user reviews and comments are non-objective fan drivel and even the trivia/notes sections of some episode guides have back-and-forth arguments over whether Joe mispronouncing "heimlich" was intended as a goof or was really scripted.

All in all, it is very unfair what happened to you if you truly did nothing worse than have a username that displayed your dislike for CNet. But if I were you I'd just cut my losses and find better sites.

If you had a username they didn't like, you deserve to be banned.

Just another reason TV.com sucks. TVTome.com was so much better.

Just sign up with a different e-mail address. If they've banned your ip, sign up from a different computer. Don't let them stop you.

I DID sign up with a new e-mail address but they must have checked my IP because they banned me right away. I don't have another computer to sign up on at the moment neither.

I still hate them for what the did with TV Tome but I still would like to use the site and it's unfare that I can't join GameFaqs or any other CNet site.

I did sign up for Tv Rage but I never got the activation email.

An IP ban is hard to get around, and if they found you again before you could post, they really want you out.

As far as I know, only the Admins have Ban power, so it's more than just a disgruntled mod and had to go through channels.

Missing activation email, be sure to check your bulk mail. Sometimes they end up there.

Are you encouraging him to ban-evade?

He could get his ISP notified by doing that.

I'm about ready to email an admin at Tv.Com about this because I have done nothing wrong I hadn't even posted there in over a month before I found out they banned me.

I'm mostly angry because they banned me without telling me why. If its because of my user name they should have sent me an email saying I've been banned for my user name or better yet just give me the option to change it. Or if I did something else to get myself banned they should have said something.

If they had taken the time to look they would have noticed I was posting like any normal member, not flaming or trolling or anything.

Well, your screenname WAS "Hatecnet".

Just a thought.

I dont want to ban-evade I just want to get back on a site that banned me after doing nothing wrong.

I don't see why you think I should be banned because of a name.

Edit: And I'm a she

Indeed they do suck now, I mean heck "Paris Hilton" a popular actress? She was only in one movie! It seams like on tV and MP3.com whoever makes the judgment seems to enjoy blonde pop stars with obviously fake over-sized hips\cleavage as opposed to actors\singers that actually have talent and sing rather than attempt to moan and make it sound cool! Its like modern opera people! Sorry for the rants I havent had alot of sleep in the past few days.

Everything non-IMDB like TV.com is monsterously difficult for me to navigate through so IMDB and Wikipedia are the only sites I use for reference.

Actually I remember TvTome banning with no warning as well

Everything non-IMDB like TV.com is monsterously difficult for me to navigate through so IMDB and Wikipedia are the only sites I use for reference.I've found Wikipedia to be a great reference. But once you set up your favorites, TV.com has some good anime and show forums that I enjoy talking at and they can lead to other sites more easily sometimes. Some are still a little ridicules, but again TvTome was the same.

It's just too bad that entries on those sites are only as trustworthy as whoever is submitting information.

Love TV.com or not, I can see why they banned you, no offense, madam. Don't even think about evading a ban, unless you want to risk being in more trouble than you are over there now. It's not worth the risk.

True, but each site has taken as many steps as they possibly can to weed out people who submit false info.

What can you SEE that gives them the right to ban me? I don't even see why I'm in trouble in the first place after doing nothing wrong other then having a name because of what happened a year ago.

I was being like any normal user so why does a few people here say I deserved to be banned?

Give a good reason why peoples.

Your screen name was good enough reason, IMO.

With a name like the one you had over there, it sounded like you want to try to say a bunch of nonsense over there. Your name wasn't very appropriate, I'm sorry to say.

Yes but I had been on there since Tv Tome got shut down and I haden't posted any nonsense since the fighting and was being a normal user.

It's not like I had the option to change my name anyway and I didn't know that having a name like that would get me banned even if I was just being a normal user.

Just because I had a bad name doesn't mean I was doing anything bad on the site. If they didn't like that I had a name they didn't like they should have had me banned waaayyy back when I was fighting about TV Tome not when I was a being a normal user.

Does anyone know how to contact a mod on the site? I offically can't send PMs anymore so I don't know what to do. Better yet can someone who has an account on the site post a link to this thread in the help section so they can see I'm having a bit of a problem.

If they really don't like my user name I would gladly join again with a new account without the annoying user name but they banned me for doing that too. Now I can't contact them to attempt to figure this all out out.

It's not so much TV.Com it's the game websites I want to use but can't.

In my opnion TV.Com is a horrible site. Why would anyone be so upset that they aren't a member there anyway?:confused:

If you made a screen name that was along the lines of "TZ Sucks" or "IhateTZ," you'd probably be banned right off. If you don't like being there (and are quite vocal about it in your user name), then why are you hanging around?

The switch from TvTome to TV.com was hard on alot of people. (The complaint threads were many and long) Many didn't take it well. It's actually grown into a not bad site. There are also more sites linked directly through Cnet now. A user name now carries between TV.com, Movies.com (I think it's called) and GameFAQ's. I lost my original user name because of that.(I still carry TvTome Code Lyoko refuge~1000+ post to newb in one stroke in my sig there) A Ban at one, now carries to all their sites and there really is little beyond pleading that can be done.

The name choice was a bad idea. Many spam and troublesome members can be spotted by screwy names. It is highly likely it was Banned in a general sweep. But the fact they found you quickly even with a new email, which was the only way to get back to TvTome, they do seem determined.

Unfortunately, (and I do it too at times) when you stick someone in the eye, they bite back if they can. Don't believe there is justice on the net, you're always dealing with people that can say 'to **** with you".

Shawn Hopkins

I really believe the banning was unfair in this case, especially since it applies to all CNET-network sites. That's why I think she should try to circumvent it.

What you should do is go to a library and use a public computer and a yahoo mail address to sign up for the games sites you want to use. That same login might work on your home computer. You may have to give up on Tv.com, though. Sounds like no great loss.
