Why is "Wise Quackers" deemed PIC? There's only two scenes in it, the gag where Daffy dresses as a slave ("I'm a comin' massah Elmer!") can be easily edited out, and the ending, which they could alter a little. Just remove Daffy saying "massah", and the gag would still work perfectly.

It's too bad this hasn't been seen on TV since the mid-1990s (on YTV in Canada). This is truly one of Freleng's underrated masterpieces. :(

It's an absolutely classic cartoon (you're right; an underrated Freleng gem), and while the syndicated "Merrie Melodies" of 1990 did used to show it edited in a similar manner (the "I'm a-comin'" line was taken out), you can't really change the theme of the cartoon. The theme still is slavery, and for many people that crosses the line. I showed the last bit of the cartoon to a college crowd a few years ago; Elmer's line "My swave's escaped!" drew audible gasps from the crowd.

Slavery's a sore subject with many people, and while I don't think the cartoon should be banned, at least it makes more sense than the banning of other cartoons (such as the Speedy shorts).

Is that really a surprise? I don't think so. I don't think they would air cartoons like that at all, let alone at 1pm.

If I were a censor, and I had to choose between eliminating the whole Speedy Gonzales series or "Wise Quackers", I'm afraid I'd choose the latter. It's not that there is anything wrong with the cartoon, it's just how people might PERCIEVE the cartoon. I think it's very funny, but people won't always be as open-minded as I or you guys would. However, I see very little wrong with the film if they edit Daffy's dialogue in some spots.

Speaking of this whole slavery issue, wasn't there a Rugrats episode where Angelica forced Chuckie to be her slave?

Did you know that "A Hick, A Slick, And A Chick" is the cartoon that is playing on Cheech's TV set in the opening scene of "Cheech & Chong's Up In Smoke"?

Yep, I knew that. I caught the first few minutes of that movie on a tape, when I was taping a movie off of Encore.
