NEW NIGHT AND TIME! SUNDAYS AT 10 PM!

Battlestar Galactica
312 - Rapture

"With the Galactica outgunned by four Cylon base ships, and the Colonial forces on the ground being flanked by a platoon of Cylon Centurions, how far will Admiral Adama go to keep the Cylons from capturing the artifact that shows the way to Earth? And will Apollo put the mission at risk to save the downed Starbuck — or let the woman he loves die?"

whoa -- wait a minute -- it is a new ep tonight?
Yea, the season premiere is tonight. Sci Fi's been advertising it like crazy ever since the season finale.

Is it techinically a season premiere? Isn't this just the same season, continued...?
Yes its the latter.

Thanks for the head's up -- I never watch Sci Fi otherwise, and the TV listings in my newspaper didn't even mention that it was a new episode.

Is it techinically a season premiere? Isn't this just the same season, continued...?

It's still technically the third season. It's no different when the big networks break for holiday hiatus like NBC did with Heros, and Studio 60. Or the CW and Smallville. Because really, that's what Galactica's break was, a holiday hiatus.

I don't know if there is a slight marketing advantage to call it a season premiere or not. Who knows. But more than likely the DVD's will be broken up at the halfway point much like season 2 was. And boy does that suck.

Hopefully the ratings improve for this second half of the season because there is still no official word on a season 4. The move to Sundays should help, but I'm not thrilled about the 10:00 pm time slot. I think it would do much better in the 9:00 pm slot. But we'll just have to see.

My official prediction? Starbuck is the dying leader who will bring the people to earth.

Otherwise, top-notch episode of the quality I've come to expect from BSG. :)

Interesting theory.

Hope they don't keep us in suspense about the face Deanna saw for too long.

I'm pretty late to the whole Battlestar Galactica scene. I had never seen an episode until October when the hype and advertising machine kicked in for season 3. So I went a head and rented the 4 part mini-series pilot from Netflix and really enjoyed it. From there I rented the season discs slowly getting through them and at the same time taping season 3 for later viewing after I was finally done watching all two seasons. I watched the webisodes all in one sitting before begining season 2. And I have to say that they did add a little bit and filled in some gaps that maybe I would have questioned had I not watched them.

I have to say, coming late into the game was pretty nice because I was able to watch everything at once, not have the frustration of long waiting cliffhagers to be resolved. Being able to watch 'Pegasus' twice (the original broadcast episode and then the much better extended version).

Saturday night I finally watched the last 3 episodes that was the first half of season 3. Now I get to watch tonights episode with no waiting what so ever.

I know there are some die hard fans and maybe some just a notch below that really criticize the show and it's direction decsions. But I must say that the "problem" or "not so great" episodes that fans didn't like I really had no problem with and enjoyed them quite a bit. I will say that the "worst" episode of the series for me was in season 2 with Dana Delaney and her cohorts holding everyone hostage. It was just boring. "Unfinished Business" I quite liked a lot while I know others didn't. It gave the characters a chance to be developed more but ultimately was a filler episode thanks to the large 20 episode season order.

The Cylon occupation story was very good and I wish maybe they had drawn it out one more episode. The season 2 finale threw me for a loop with it's ending. I mean all of a sudden they find this planet, abused Cylon number 6 blows up Cloud 9 and then it's one year later with everyone's characters changed. I don't know, it felt weird to me like it was rushed. I can't put my finger on it. Like maybe the one year later scenario should have been reserved for season 3. It was just out of place to be in that episode with everything else having gone on.

I've really come to like the Tom Zarek character and hope we see much more of him this season.

Now to the main mythology or arc of the series, finding Earth. It kind of has an Indiana Jones feel to it, though placed in a sci-fi space setting. Having to find places and pieces to puzzles to find stuff out. Like the trip to Kobol. I've always liked that stuff and those kinds of stories, so I liked "The Eye of Jupiter."

Over all so far I have to say that this series is REALLY good. I have enjoyed it far more than any other series to date. And I'm a huge fan of Lost, Heroes, The Shield and 24.

It's a shame it's struggling in the ratings this season and I really fear that dreaded cancellation news after season 3's finale. Ronald Moore has said in a couple interviews I've read that he has enough material to be able to comfortably finish this series in 5 seasons. I really hope that happens. Even if Sci-Fi Channel orders 13, 14, or 15 episodes next season to cut down on money for lack of ratings. That would mean less filler episodes and more on the over story of finding Earth. If anything that means Sci-Fi can sell more DVD's. I just don't understand how Stargate SG1 and Atlantis can go on and on, while Battlestar Galactica has these cancellation rumors swirling about.

Here's to a great second half of season 3!

OMG Y'all

oh Helo...

That opening teaser made me tear up. I love the Helo/Sharon pairing...despite everything that's happened to them, I really think they're the least frakked up couple on this whole show (except for maybe Roslin/Adama, which exists only in my wildest dreams, I suppose ;) )

Speaking of frakked up, someone finally slaps Starbuck (and I'm a Starbuck fangirl but that woman needs to be slapped. A lot)

Feeling really sorry for Dee and Anders right now.

Another fantastic episode. But damn you to heck, RDM! *shakes fist* I must know who the Final Five are! And what exactly did Deanna see that made her go all wonky like that?!?

I would not want to be Gauis when he wakes up.

What's going to happen to Caprica, do you think? (And was that even Caprica? I'm really starting to get all the Six models mixed up, though Tricia is so good with her acting and the subtle differences between each Six incarnation that I'm pretty confident it was Caprica that boarded the raptor with Sharon...but I could be wrong)

God I love this show. If it were a man, I'd marry it.

Awesome that you got on board the Galactica fleet.

I still maintain that Exodus, Part 2 was the best sci-fi episode of anything on TV since the late 1960s, when Trek aired "City on the Edge of Forever".

I'm astounded by how great this series is, given how awful the original series was, in retrospect (and I remember as a little nerd being frustrated when the original series got preempted by football on Sunday nights :o).

I may be late, but I'm glad I came. :) Man, God bless Netflix! Otherwise, I don't think I would have chanced buying the pilot or season one set to see if I liked it.

Another solid episode tonight! A nice complimentary episode to "The Eye of Jupiter." Now that Lucy Lawless's Cylon character has been put in "cold storage", I wonder, if ever, we will see her again. I always thought it was great that she got involved with this series.

A nice, nice tease though for the final 5 Cylons. It really makes me wonder just how long they can drag it out. Maybe by seasons end we'll know maybe at least one of them.

And it looks like next week's episode seems to be another filler focusing on once again the ill fated love confused 4. But, I have learned not to judge this show by it's previews because for me at least, the episode turns out better than I thought it would. But upon first glance, this seems to suffer from the typical filler formula when you have such a large season order for episodes.

I seem to think though that if this series is to survive to see it's natural and planned end, then episode orders will probably need to shrink. As I mentioned above, this will cut down on filler episodes and focus on the most important part of the series. I hope Sci-Fi Channel, Ronald D. Moore and everyone involved will do whatever they can to make sure this show survives.

Anybody else hear the word that Starbuck wants to leave the show?

I thought last night's episode was pretty good. I was a little pissed at not seeing what Deanna saw. Dangling mysteries for the sake of just ticking of viewers reeeeeaaaallly gets to me. S'why I can't get into LOST and I'm always this close to stopping my watching of HEROES.

Interesting theory of Starbuck tho.

Overall, a good episode last night. Visually, it was stunning, particularly toward the end.

With D'Anna, I was quite upset at the end, assuming we won't be seeing her for some time. There's no doubt her model line will be re-activated at some point. Just hope it's a lot sooner than later. I'm not sure how long I can go without seeing Lawless.

The most exciting aspect for me was probably Baltar being brought back aboard Galactica. That should make things very interesting.

Regarding Starbuck, it seems very possible she could be a cylon. Of course, Baltar also knows/experiences things a normal human shouldn't, provided by the phantom Six, and I'm doubting he's a cylon. But given the rumors of something significant happening to Starbuck, I'd lean more toward her being a cylon than dying. We'll see.

And boy is Boomer screwed up. She's the Sharon we started watching and identifying with, but now Athena has more than taken over that place, and Boomer has seriously fallen (at least in my eyes). What a captivating role reversal. It's also interesting that Caprica 6, who seemed on the same page as Boomer in "Downloaded", was the one who killed her to help Athena return to Galactica.

They've moved around some of the major pieces on the Galactica chessboard, and this should set up for some great character interaction and advancement in future eps.

Anybody else hear the word that Starbuck wants to leave the show?Hope that's not the case, since she's about to become the pivotal character, judging by the ending of this episode.

Finally watched this episode tonight: A fantastic season premiere, (even though it's not the premiere, it's the 2nd half of Season 3)! The supernova was a brilliant special effect.

Is it just me, or did the Cylons experience a resounding defeat with this episode? They loose Baltar, they had to "decommision" the D'anna model, they lost the "special" baby, Caprica Six rebelled, and on top of that, they don't know where Earth is, (unlike the humans, who seem to have figured it out)!!

Loved how Athena had to be killed to bring back the baby...that made for a good moment.

The one thing I can't figure out is: Why is it illegal for the Cylons to not know the identity of the final five? Who's making these "rules" in Cylon society? Is there a "Borg Queen" equivalent for the Cylon race?

I also hope that BSG gets to Season 5, (it should definently get Season 4) though I hope it doesn't live beyond a Season 5...you really can't drag this type of show on forever.

EDIT: I just remembered: there was a little bit of deja vu in this episode! If you recall from the pilot episode, Caprica Six killed the little baby in the crib by snapping it's neck! Here, we now have Boomer ready to snap a little baby's neck, yet Caprica Six saves her! Talk about a reversal!!!

This was a really great episode that had some awesome twists and turns...

And it was almost ruined by Sci Fi's next episode teaser. -_-
