How did X-files end last night? I saw up until when Reyes shot the police guy. Then I missed a few minutes and saw the final shot of the babies. I'm assuming the detective died and his soul transferred to one of the newborns. But was there anything else? Any interesting dialogue or last minute twists?

--yes...and no. That was the end of the episode, but it opened up the door to a few questions. Since the rhythm of the kills was interrupted--that is, the murderer only got three victims this time around--does that mean the cycle is broken? Or will five have to be skinned in the next cycle? And is Reyes a part of the equation herself, also endlessly reincarnated--or is she a wildcard that, by being entered, breaks the loop?
My brother was all, "Can someone really live after getting skinned alive?" I'm not actually sure--I've heard the expression before, but never really paused to consider it. My thought'd be if the blood loss doesn't kill the victim, infection would set in and do the job in a matter of days....

The parts you missed were Reyes shoots the guy. The guy tells her she always fails. Reyes wants to know what he means by that. He's in the hospital and she's waiting for him to wake up. Scully comes in and tells her, maybe she succeeded in this lifetime. And then the guy dies and voila the baby.
I thought this was a really good episode. It was kind of like old times, when they used to leave the ending open-ended. Was the cycle broken or not? Interesting.
I was also wondering about that being alive after being skinned thing. If that's possible... ooh, geez. I dont think Doggett calling for a medic was going to do help anything there.

i have decided to stop watching X-Files entirely. it is not because DD is not there, i have actually lost interest 2 seasons ago and i only continued watching it out of habit, not because i was still interested in the show. still, X-Files is better than the majority of the shows out there. i might stop watching smallville as well.

That's how i've felt the last couple years, but with confirmation that CC is ending the series, I've decided to start watching again. I'm obviously looking forward to the latter part of the season when the major arcs are wrapped up. But I decided to get back into it now to see how things build toward the finale. Given the years I've spent watching in the past, I definitely want to see the payoff. Maybe it'll good, maybe not, but we won't know until the final episode.
