What moments have scared you?

The Secret of Monkey Island - That close-up shot of the navigator's head still scares me no matter how many times I see it.

Gremlins 2: The New Batch (Amiga) - The game over screen. For some reason, the Gremlin Statue of Liberty holding a lit stick of dynamite scares me.

Wallmasters in OOT. I haven't run into any in Twilight Princess yet, but I hope I don't.

2-Batman:dark tomorrow: Well the whole game is dark and scary (Its not a bad game really).

3-Paper mario the thousand year door :The part with the shadow princess is extremely scary.

I'll probably post a few more later.

Re-deads in OoT and MM.

In Resident Evil when the zombified dogs leap through the windows.

Resident Evil 4 oven man-- when a Zombie bursts out of an oven towards you.

Silent Hill: When you hear a kid crying at the bathroom

Starblade Arcade: I couldn't even stand five meters near it, the screen was so HUGE and SCARY! :crying:

8 bit Nintendo games always seemed scarier to me than modern games. Something about simplistic graphics and sound just seems so much scarier. The Friday the 13th game for Nintendo scared the crap out of me as a kid, and still kind of does if I play it in the dark. I mean, you're just walking around in a cabin and all of the sudden Jason comes out of nowhere and starts cutting you up with an axe. The music was so scary. The final dungeon in the original Legend of Zelda I always thought was really scary just because of the music.

Also, I should add that it always used to scare me when 8 bit Nintendo games got all glitchy and the graphics got all weird and stuff. I used to have nightmares about all those stange images that I would see. And whenever a Nintendo game froze and made that weird beeping noise, man that scared the crap out of me. I always ran up to the Nintendo and shut the power off as soon as I could whenever a game froze. Like, I thought if I listened to that horrific beeping sound for too long it would steal my soul or something.

Some events in Resident Evil 4:

-The first time you encounter the wolves
-The area before fighting Right Hand- just the atmosphere of it.

Resident Evil(PS1): The cut scene of the hunter making it's first appearance. (I was about 9 years old when I first saw that.)

And as someone posted before, the zombie dogs breaking through the glass window.

Resident Evil 4: Anytime that chainsaw man (or woman) would come out. I was so scared that I couldn't even shoot straight until about three shots were wasted.

Alien (SNES): The gameover screen of the alien on close up.

Jet Force Gemini (N64): The Abandoned UFO level was pretty scary with the errie music and such...

Oven Man was kinda awesome, not scary.

But yes, Dr. Salvador and the Bella sisters were just, augh. After the first time I died by chainsaw, I feared that noise from then on. It's real bad when you don't have any ammo.

First wolf encounter in RE4.

Wallmasters in OoT. My friend had to ask me to beat the Shadow Temple because she couldn't stand them.

This is why I couldn't play Mario Bros. for years; I was just plain scared of the goombas because they just stared at you. Even when I summoned the courage, I just about freaked out. I think it's the music....

Fatal Frame gets my pick. Big kudos to TECMO for creating such an eerie experience inside a haunted mansion. It's the only game that actually gave me trouble sleeping at night because I believed a ghost would pop up in the hall or my bedroom any moment.

The zombies in the first Resident Evil game used to scare the crap out of me.

Then, as I progressed through the game and was forced to fight off rabid monkeys and crazy lizard people, those slow moving zombies ended up not being so scary after all.

2-Batman:dark tomorrow: Well the whole game is dark and scary (Its not a bad game really).

Oh yes it is, all that development time and for nothing. That game was scary in how bad it was. I'm a huge Batman and even I admit that game blew, but most Batman games do( Cmon Lego Batman:D)

But on topic, Scary moments in games

-Another vote for the dogs in RE. Ever since then I have always hated those damn dogs in those games, so I always enjoy offing them.

-Anything with Pyramid Head is just plain weird and creepy to boot

-In MGS3, after you beat the Fury...one of the weirdest post boss things ever. A giant flaming head screaming isn't cool( well it kind of is )

-Hearing Hunters clicking but you couldn't see them was always nerve wracking

-And of course lots of games when you play them on the hardest difficulty get kind of scary when you have to fight a boss.

I feel obligated to mention the bathtub scene from Eternal Darkness since it has yet to be by anyone.

Not just the bathtub scene in Eternal Darkness, but the one in the piano room. You're just running around in it like always then you happen to notice someone being hung in front of you. Then he yells at you. A lot of intense moments in that game, same goes for Resident Evil 4.

Although it wasn't scary, there was one part near the end of Twilight Princess ...

When you're trying to steal the two Sol stones in the Twilight castle and the hands are slowly chasing you. The music that plays when they get close is holy crap hurry creepy.

Basically any game where you're on a time limit and the penalty is some invincible thing killing you because your time is up. The music gets all tense and fast and the game warns you to hurry. Berzerk is probably the first one to do it with that bouncing Evil Otto head....just a smiley face that slowly bounds toward you and the longer you take the faster he bounces toward you, with the same dead grin on his face.

Sounds like the angry video game nerd. He said something similer. The old Jedi knight games used to scare me.

Ghosts in the Sonic games. I hope SEGA are willing to pay for my treatments...or at least some new underwear.

I've had my share of glitch scares. I was playing Aquatic Ruin Zone once and the ivy forgeground froze. As soon as I stopped, it caught up and the ivy moved whilst everything else was still...freaky.
I used to have a demo of Star Wars-Rogue Squadron for the PC. Our PC at the time couldn't play it apparently. The title screen from what I could tell involved an X-Wing blasting through. You'd hear this dramatic build up, an on screen explosion and laser fire and then it would crash back to the desktop. Initially I was fine with it but for some reason the more I tried to get it to run, the more scared that intro made me.

The exact main reason why I really hated the water levels on the early Sonic games. I just hated dying in the water.

Oh, oh! I found another one from RE4.

Regenerators.

They just make this weird gasping noise like it's on the verge of suffocating, and they just move all funkily. And that music. It's real bad when you shoot them in the leg, and you think that it would stop right there. No; it just hops at you, covering more distance than before. Before you know it, they're on you.

The Sorrow from MGS3. Not that it was scary, but it's just creepy how the guards you killed come back as ghosts and try to attack you. There can be few, or a lot. Some of them have vultures eating them, on fire. Of course, the bosses. Streaking... The image that springs up when you get hit by The Sorrow's attack.

And of course, 'dying' when you touch the skeleton at the end of the river.

Freaked me out when it first happened, because it was more of a 'now what?'

There are far too many scary moments in the Resident Evil and Silent Hill series to talk about one by one. They are indeed very scary games.

I also have to give props to Friday the 13th. While the game was terrible, it would scare the crap out of me whenever Jason would pop up. I must admit, the first time I came across the killer piano in Super Mario 64, I jumped.

There are also a lot of games that just have a creep atmosphere to them. Killer7 comes to mind in this category.

There have also been plenty of games with music that has given me the creeps. The merry-go-round theme from Super Mario 64, the Pokemon Tower and Lavender Town themes from Pokemon Red/Blue and please tell me I'm not the only one who found the drowning music from Sonic scary.

In my opinion, drowning in Super Mario 64 is scarier that drowning in any Sonic game.

I just listened to it... and indeed, I was a little creeped out by it.

And, last one I swear, in Banjo-Kazooie, Ratchet Bay or something... Inside the ship, you have to balance on this real thin beam to get to the machinery, and below is a acid pit. You have to dodge some things, but if you get knocked off, you simply disappear. It takes a few seconds for the game to register that you're dead and when it does, god. :(

Here's some of my scary moments

-Whenever Samuel L. Jackson Man (bald guy in a trenchcoat) appears out of nowhere in RE2.
-The New Game+ scenario of the RE1 remake, I was scared to death that the STARS officer with a belt full of grenades would be around somewhere, and one shot at him reels me into a game over.
-The Nemesis in RE3.
-Finding out that despite dying in a pool of lava those huge ogre things could grab you and sink into the lava with you in tow in RE4.
-I don't know why but the Lost Woods (both Light and Dark), and the first few temples of Zelda ALTTP really freaked me out.
-Ditto to the giant hand things in the Twilight Temple in Twilight Princess.
-Same to the Eternal Darkness tub thing.
-Worse off from that is the sanity trick that I deleted my save file when I actually did.
-The Dahaka chases in Prince of Persia Warrior Within.

Super Metroid.

Well, actually it began with Metroid II for the Game Boy. Just something about having to approach those little bug pods until the music starts buzzing real bad, then the Metroid just speeds after me making me go, "Ohmygawd SHOOT IT SHOOT IT SHOOT IT!"

I must have matured with Metroid Prime, because it doesn't really do that to me.

Oh boy. Where do I start?

Resident Evil:

-The dogs jumping through the window
-The first Hunter

Resident Evil 2:

-The Licker that bust through the window in the interregation room
-The crows busting through the windows
-The dogs busting out of the cells
-The room where you grab the cog and the Tyrant busts through the wall

Resident Evil 3

-When the Nemesis busts through the wall in the stairway hall in the police station.

-When the crows busts through the bus windows

Resident Evil 4

-The entire time in the hedge maze with the wolves

Silent Hill

Anytime I was out on the streets. ESPECIALLY at night.

There were also parts in the Tomb Raider games that scared me. Enemies would come out of nowhere.

Metroid II: I hate how you're just walking along, minding your business, when all of a sudden, an ugly-looking metroid and intense music appear out of nowhere. Made me jump a number of times.

Resident Evil: I walked into a room, and BAM, giant, blue spider takes up the entire screen, scaring me half to death. A millisecond later, I ran back into the previous room.

Doom 3: The yellow-spider things that roar.

Dragonheart (gameboy): Walking through forests and caves is a pain, because a lot of the time, it's just empty, then suddenly, an angry-looking dragon's face pops out of nowhere, staring right at you. Catches me off guard every time.

Ninja Gaiden (Xbox): The giant mosquitos creep me out. It's freaky how they just hover around, and when you're fighting a number of them, one of them usually pops up right in front of the screen, ignoring Ryu and focusing its attention on you. Gah.

That reminded me of something freaky in Jak 3. I was fooling around and swam out too far (Because I thought I could reach this island out there.)--And then this giant tentacle came out and dragged me underwater...

I forgot, Zombies Ate My Neighbors for the SNES. Granted, it's supposed to be a parody, but it gets very disturbing at times, mostly due to your having to save the innocents before the zombies kill them, and when they do, the people make this creepy horrified death scream and turn into angels with ghost faces.:crying:

But not so much super-scary

More like "WTF is going on" scary when you're dreaming.

Although that weird sound-effect that plays when a bat approaches from behind is really starting to get to me. Especially when there's no BGM playing to begin with.

Everything from the Fatal Frame series. I've yet to finish one of those. One specific moment I can recall is from Fatal Frame3 where you're wandering around your own house and you can see feet under the little coffee table, but if you go away and come back they're gone. I started questioning if I was just seeing things.
