For the first time in a long time I stopped into my local comic book store and picked up some of that Mangaverse stuff I've been hearing so much about.
Lotta cool ideas and not nearly enough room to get the stories told well.
All except.... Spider-Man. The other two Mangaverse comics I picked up(Avengers Assmeble and Mangaverse with show stopping art by Ben Dunn) I just paged through. I'm seeing alot of why I stopped reading superhero comics in the first place.
For all the action and pictures that're suppose to carry the story of these super hero comics there sure is alot of talking!!!! Too much infact. I just got tired of all the pointless jammed in there dialogue and patheticallly just looked at the pictures.
Now all I read are the occasional tradepaperbacks, and the only one I've cared about was Preacher. I read all the dialogue several times in that comic, cuz it's necessary... they're actually saying something and it's writtin' smoothly and well.
Spider-Man was the only one of the comics I got, that did it right. Didn't have much room to tell a story, so it got right to the point and without too much droning dialogue. Art was simplistic, but styliezed and sincere. Sincere in meaning, it seemed like the team behind this was actually trying to make there own world and liked what they were doing, rather than thrown in a bunch of clunky bulky pads and gimmick gear just to be putting it there like Avengers Assemble.
Anyway, if you don't have alot of money to be tossing around, Spider-Man's one to pick up, and judging from what I'm hearing about the popularity of these comics, ya better get 'em while supplies last!
