Why is Ca #50 $5.95. Because its the last one before it reopens in the spring? so cap america is gonna be dead forever in a way?

I think it was also an extra long book, so that was part of the reason why they excused jacking up the price. They've left people in the dark about what's going on with Cap before the MK edition. I think that the letters page for #50 said something like they were going to end the series differently but changed things around as a result of 9/11--I think that they probably just figured that it would be a good tribute for them to give Cap a heroic death, but they weren't too specific about what changes were made.
