Music Video I just finished highlighting the first season of Justice League Unlimited. Please give it a chance and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. The song is "Tenth Man Down" by Nightwish.
The video can be downloaded in its DVD-quality form here (477 megs): http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0DOG1RRM
A lower quality version of the video can also be downloaded here (86 megs): http://www.bestsharing.com/files/a0PSV201311/jlu390.avi.html

Watching it now...
EDIT:
Love the timing, and the way you build the fights...too often people start their videos with the best stuff, and then there's nowhere to go...
The song...was better without the singers...but still, a good choice. It had momentum. Nicely done! Was it fun?

I'm not in love with the song but it was very well edited and the clips you used had impressive quality. It was over all very well timed. The four different screens at once trick must have been difficult and time consuming.

My computer is ridiculously slow, but I've seen the first thirty seconds or so. It's pretty darn sweet. What kind of program/whatever do you use to make this sort of thing, if it's all right for me to ask? I enjoy doing it as well, but I have nowhere near the right set-up.

I was a lot more excited about it before the vocals kicked in, but the music still works and your editing is outstanding. You have a lot of talent...do you have any schooling or experience in film?

That was awesome...only trouble I had was since I couldn't get it to be in fullscreen, it was a little tricky to see when you did that four screens at once trick. I've seen a lot of Justice League AMVs and this is up there with my favorites with the ones based on Starcrossed.

Yeah, the pacing is especially important if you want someone to watch five and a half minutes...I definitely had fun making it. It seems like you're not alone in not being fond of the song, I might need to pick something a little different for my next one (more on that later). It was fun making sure to include every hero I could though a few slipped through, (sorry Big Barda, maybe next time) and using each of the 26 episodes.
I'm not in love with the song but it was very well edited and the clips you used had impressive quality. It was over all very well timed. The four different screens at once trick must have been difficult and time consuming.
As I was making the video, I realized that even at 5:22, I didn't have nearly enough time to give spotlights to all the heroes I wanted (because I'm one of those weirdos who loves Red Tornado), so the quarter-screens seemed like a good solution. The first chorus goes to the men, the second to the women, and the third and fourth to the original seven (plus Aquaman...according to Hereafter, he's like the eighth, so there), with the fourth reserved for the 'Big Four'. As tricky and time-consuming as it was, there were subtler edits that were more tedious for me...things like, at 1:19, when Hawkgirl raises her head before approaching Grundy in the sewers? The original footage of that has her talking, so her mouth is moving. That would have been distracting, so I changed the original frames so her mouth is closed using an image mask.
My computer is ridiculously slow, but I've seen the first thirty seconds or so. It's pretty darn sweet. What kind of program/whatever do you use to make this sort of thing, if it's all right for me to ask? I enjoy doing it as well, but I have nowhere near the right set-up.
I exported from the DVDs using a Huffyuv lossless codec so none of the video quality would be lost, then edited the footage using Adobe Premiere Pro. I exported via the lossless codec again, so I have an 800 meg video on my computer of the music video at DVD quality. In order to upload to sites like Imeem, I use Avisynth to compress the video via the Xvid codec...there's a loss of quality, but it's negligible.
That was very, VERY COOL! Put it on youtube!
Unfortunately, youtube videos can be downloaded using certain plugins, and other videos I've put on there have been uploaded by other users and claimed as their own work. It's annoying and disillusioning, so any video I put on there will have to have an annoying little credit in a bottom corner the whole time. Also, I edited the video in widescreen to keep the original picture. Widescreen and youtube are like chemists on strike - they don't mix. I'll see what I can do though.
I agree with pretty much everything DB has to say here. I was a lot more excited about it before the vocals kicked in, but the music still works and your editing is outstanding. You have a lot of talent...do you have any schooling or experience in film?
I worked on the TV announcements in high school and won a regional film festival, but I haven't had any professional training..I wanted to do trailers for films for awhile, but I think most of my enjoyment comes from my editing things I love, like JLU. If someone was telling me what I had to edit, I think I'd come to hate this sort of thing :/

I hate the size limitations of online streaming sites, especially since the video can be played at 720x480 with no loss of quality. I'll upload and make a link so you all can download it and watch it offline if you want to. I saw an AMV of Starcrossed using "The Beginning of the End' that I really liked, but none of the others I've seen have really stood out to me.
Thanks for the feedback everyone :) I promised a friend I would finish the second music video in a series I'm doing using the 2003 Ninja Turtles cartoon, but after that I plan to do a Batman: The Animated Series tribute similar to this one. I'm still looking for the perfect song, but something like the Keep Hope Alive mix of Crystal Method's "There is Hope" is tempting.

The Starcrossed "Beginning of the End" is great, but theres another one from Starcrossed that focuses on John and Shayera on the WGZMedia page...I forget the title of the song.
The only other DCAU AMV that comes close that I've seen is the Return of the Joker AMV using "With You" by Linkin Park.

Ooh, that reminded me of a ROTJ video I thought was well done to Union Underground "Turn me on Mr. Deadman"...I can't find it now though. Looks like I'll have to wait until the 10th to find the other Starcrossed one.

That was one awesome video, and like everyone else said, it was very well timed. Good job!
One thing I will say against everyone else's opinion though, is that I did like the song and that in your next video I hope you choose a song that is just as unique as this one. Having a generic rock song just gets boring after a while, where as here I enjoyed the rock/orchestrated mix that you had in this video. It had a very nice 'epicness' to it.
If you can get a download available for your music video, I'd definitely get it :)

Well, YouSendIt (http://www.yousendit.com/) is pretty good with that. They'll let you upload anything on their servers up to 100MB. The only downside is that once you upload your file there it'll expire after 25 downloads, so you'll have to re-upload it again if more people want to get it.
EDIT: Nevermind, apparently they've changed their rules to allowing only 3 downloads before the file expires.

Downloading it now to watch it. But before I do I have a question. Why did you pick 10th Man Down for the music? Did you ever see that Super Sentai history video that used the same song?
This is it for those interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-bQpoZXOFQ
After seeing that video I immediately became a Nightwish fan and I see that a lot of people seem to have become inspired by that project as well.
Edit: just saw the video. Was really good. What program did you use to do that four panel display throughout the video? I've always wanted to play around with that, but the only video editing programs I know are Avid and Windows Movie Maker. Since Avid costs like $1,000 I was only able to use it at school. And WMM crashes too much to ever get anything going. Great job on the video.

Wow...this is the show Power Rangers is based on, I'm guessing? I never saw this vid (I'd be surprised if most of the people with Tenth Man Down videos have), just a Nightwish fan (the song is old, maybe five or six years now).
I used Adobe Premiere Pro for the editing. Glad you liked the video :)

I've edited my initial post and it now includes a link from which the 83 meg version can be downloaded - http://www.bestsharing.com/files/a0PSV201311/jlu390.avi.html . I haven't been able to find a site where the DVD quality version can be distributed, but send me a private message and I'll be glad to send it to you.
Wow. WOW! That was unbelievably COOL. :robin:
thanks for sharing! I want more! Do tributes to STAS! BTAS! BB!
but don't do ZETA ;)
oh, I hope you don't mind, but i just HAD to add this to my MySpace! My friends are loving it! It even convinced a non-watcher to go buy the DVD set! wow!

I don't mind at all, I'm glad it's a hit :) I want to do something with BTAS (or possibly TNBA) next, and by then the last 13 episodes of JLU will be out on DVD...I already know what I'm doing with that and can't wait. Inspiration hasn't hit me yet for STAS but I love the show and I'm sure I'll think of something, same with Batman Beyond. I don't think Zeta will be on DVD for awhile, so you don't need to worry.
Right now, I just need to concentrate on finding the perfect song to use in "tributing" BTAS.

I'd rather see a TNBA tribute than BTAS, so it's getting my vote on this one. As for the other series, I'd love any of them.

Not bad. The clips were well chosen and fit really well with the music. I agree with other posters that the music lost a bit of it's 'omph' once the vocals kicked in though. They sounded a little cheesy, but that's just me. I'm looking forward to seeing what's next. Great job.
Have a good day.

i sent this to a friend of mine in the UK, and he knew the band. They're Swedish? it does grow on you. perhaps it's the amazing visuals that aid in my love of the song?
You should get that crazy old song, "Tequila!" that Pee Wee Herman danced to. Get the song, and do a hilarious tribute using Superfriends clips to the song! No? Well....I tried...;)
Glad you're working on more of these. I absolutely love stuff like this.

Yeah, Swedish. Their singer (the soprano) left a year or so ago, last I heard they were trying to replace her but still together...just as well, I wasn't overly fond of her, it's the actual music that I love...they've got a song called Crownless that would be great for a Flash tribute...until she starts singing :/ Ah well, I love em.

Great work on the music video, man.
The timing is really good and since I love Nightwish (yes, the lead singer as well. IMO Tarja has an awesome, epic voice.), I think this song fits the epic tales JLU mostly tells really well.
One point of criticism though: The thing with the four screens is a nice idea, but takes almost all the pace and impact out of the video and the corresponding part of the song, in my opinion. Putting more fast paced and edited solo-screen sequences in there, instead of the four screens, might have been the better choice.

Not a bad idea...I may do a single-screen mix anyway to put on youtube - it's impossible to see what's happening in their size-restricted window. I'll post a link when it's up.

Awesome.
Try to put the sequence where Wildcat pounds Atomic Skull with a clothline at the beginning of one of the refrain strings. You know where the drums start and then Tarja goes "Cut me free...", so after when Wildcat strikes out and hits Skull with the clothline it matches the "Cut" in the beginning of the refrain, That should look really good, since the scene got a great impact behind it. Just a small idea. ;)

Just about anyone with some basic editing software can make a fan video. Some are okay, some are neat, but this one is fantastic!!!
Bevandera, you found a good song and then all the clips blended perfectly with the music while still telling a story. I friggin loved it!!

They're Swedish? it does grow on you. perhaps it's the amazing visuals that aid in my love of the song?Heck, even the vocals grow on you. For that style, I wouldn't have gone with someone that relies on vibrato, but hey, she does have great pipes. Maybe she'll have better luck finding a style that works for her now that she's gone from the band. I suffer from the same bias as everyone though--we're so surprised by the quality of the fan work that the whole darn thing grows on you.
Glad you're working on more of these. I absolutely love stuff like this.Yeah, just don't feel too much pressure--it seems like a lot of effort went into this! If you don't mind me asking, how much time did it take?

Thanks Murmur, seriously. I spent free time on two weekends...at least 15 hours, probably a little less than 20. It's a lot of time for a 5 minute video, but it's a hobby like building model ships...the end product is a nice bonus, but the main enjoyment comes from working on it.

Just a suggestion, for the STAS music video , maybe you could use that cool superman song that goes "I'm only a man, in a funny red sheet, even heroes have the right to bleed".
That would be awesome!:D
