I saw this cartoon on the ACME hour tonight, (great cartoon, but now that "Robin Hood" song is stuck in my head!) and I was wondering, this cartoon was made in 1939, so why does a calendar in the house the fox is in say 1959 ?

The calendar does say 1939 but since the calendar's a bit cut off on screen, it looks like 1959.

It would be cool to see all of the WB cartoons in letterboxed form, so we can get all of the picture. What I'd really like to see is the scene from "Beep! Beep" with the "Road Runners Don't Drink and Can't Read" sign, since the both of the characters get cut off on the screen, especially Wile E.

Actually, it's called the "windowbox" format.

Instead of the picture filling the screen, it's shrunk down just a little to allow 0% of the picture to get cut off by TV overscan or transferring overscan.

A DVD of Winsor McCay cartoons, the two Bosko DVD's, and the Charlie Chaplin DVD's of Modern Times and City Lights are formatted this way.
