Do you think the 1987-1989 Simpsons shorts that aired on the Tracy Ullman Show are considered as classics?

I put "I don't know" because, unfortunately, I've never seen any (I sort of saw one). I hear they are pretty good. How are they different from the TV series?

They are different from the TV series because, well, first of all, the animation is rather more crude. Second, the Simpsons are showcased almost entirely by themselves with secondary characters rarely showing up (although both Grampa and Krusty the Clown were used in the Ullman shorts). And, of course, their being "shorts" prohibits them from giving the same results as a half-hour animated sitcom because of time restraints.

However, I still consider them classics. I have only seen a few but the few I have seen are great. I particularly like "Echo Canyon" in which Bart (almost) flattens the family car with a boulder. "Bart Jumps" (title?) is another favorite.

I really like "Bart of the Jungle," where Bart, Lisa, and Maggie use Homer's clothes as jungle supplies.

This one introduced me to The Simpsons. I didn't know what the devil they were at first--I thought they were advertising something! "So...what are they selling here? Soda? They're drinking soda and burping. That must be the gag. What brand is that? C'mon, show the brand name already. Why are they showing a commercial in segments?"
This was, of course, some years before Bart hawked his first Butterfinger.

Something that new cannot be a classic.:D

I don't really think so...

They're pretty crude.

I'd give something at least 15-20 years until they become a classic (The "newest" cartoon that's clsssic in my opinion is probably Injun Trouble (1969) :D )

Some newer features could be considered classics, but most recent (1985-2001) stuff is inspired by other cartoon series and shows. The Simpsons is very original, but the basic plot derives from The Flintstones, Dennis The Menace, and All In The Family.

Maybe by 2015, The Simpsons will be more of a classic show than now.
