"Well, excuuuuuuse me, princess."
Yes... That's why. And if you've seen the intro to this thing, and heard him say that... No... That's not the only time he says that same quote, as the video will show you.
Man, I've never thought I'd be so glad that Zelda games don't have Link speaking. >_<

Maybe this is why Gordan Freeman took a vow of silence:confused:

Well all those consecutive "excuuuuse me, princess"'s can get to a person. I'll admit that I couldn't listen to the whole thing after a while. I didn't mind it in the cartoon though.
I don't think I'd mind Link actually speaking in a future Zelda game, but it's not like they have to use the same voice actor who did him in the cartoon.
Anyway, for the record, I think Captain Lou Albano's voice is better than the voices you hear in the Mario games.
Just saying.

Gannon is the same guy as the grandpa in Rolly Polly Ollie.
I was never bothered by the cartoon voice of Link, but maybe cus I was 8 when I was obsessed with the show.
Whoa...I never actually saw the Zelda cartoon. I thought it was only a one time line that became extremely popular... O_o Obviously I was mistaken...
I was going to count how many times he actually used it, but it's REALLY not worth sitting through it again to find out, I don't think. Amazing how many times a 13-episode series can use a single catchphrase...

So, did the producers of the Zelda show read a Rumiko Takahashi manga when they made this?

Am I the only one who liked the show and absolutely loves the line? I won the DVD set from Toonzone about a year ago, but I haven't watched it yet, mainly because I don't have anyone to watch it with and I'd feel weird watching an 80s cartoon by myself. Maybe when I see my brother again I'll watch it with him.
Anyway, I really wish they would give Link a voice in the games. And quite frankly, I'd love it if they had him say "Well, excuuuuuse me, Princess." at least once. I don't know why everyone hates the line so much. I mean, there have been worse catch phrases in cartoon history. Didn't Mario have a catch phrase in the old cartoons? Like "Holy macaroni!" or something like that? I seem to recall Sonic having a catch phrase too, like "Time to speed, keed."

The catchphrase may have been overworked, but I thought the show was fun. It was just a fun, high-adventure comedy show that didn't need to be taken all that seriously (that's right a version of Legend of Zelda that's not meant to be taken seriously. :gasp: ). Also, I like that Zelda wasn't just sitting around in some dungeon waiting to be rescued. While "save the princess" may have made for some worthy goals in the games, it probably wouldn't have cut it on American TV. So, we got a spunky princess who was a decent shot with a magic bow.
Anyway, I really wish they would give Link a voice in the games. And quite frankly, I'd love it if they had him say "Well, excuuuuuse me, Princess." at least once.
I've actually thought about it before in terms of future games or even possible movies. I figure they have to touch on the line at least once. So what should they do? Put it in context. Maybe make it when he's actually arguing with Zelda. Maybe not extend the "u" so much, so it sounds like an actual line rather than a cheesy catchphrase.

The voice doesn't bother me that much... it's the line itself that's the problem. That's way too often for one line for a 13-episode series. I mean, it's funny at first, but yeah, it does get very annoying after awhile.

So, that's his catchphrase. Big deal. Imagine someone doing the same thing to Kim Possible. She has multiple catchphrases "So not the drama" and "What's the sitch, Wade?"
On the bright side, "Excuse me, Princess" could easily be spoofed in some show. Imagine Bloo saying that to Frankie, etc..

Link was originally designed to be a conduit by which the player experiences the game. Hence, not much characterization to speak of, and androgynous-looking to start off. Obviously he's become more of a character over the years, but keeping him without dialogue continues to be a functional choice to immerse the player more.
I loved the cartoon as a kid, but it's almost unwatchable now. Just cutely nostalgic (while simultaneously grating).

Link: WELL EXCUSE MEEE PRINCESS!
Someone should of told Link hes excused..:D
Link most of lost his voice because of saying that all the time. And the other Links shared his fate of loseing there voices.

I think the reason why this Link Video is so annoying isn't the catchphrase but rather the number of repetitive times it is made.. And I can give you guys an idea here.
So, that's his catchphrase. Big deal. Imagine someone doing the same thing to Kim Possible. She has multiple catchphrases "So not the drama" and "What's the sitch, Wade?"
That's true Kim does have multiple catchphrases but I sat down and began counting both Link and Kim's Catch Phrase lines and let's face it. Link Says Excuse me Princess a total of 28 times in just 13 episodes.. that's roughly 2 times per episode the phrase is said.
But then I went and started Counting Kim's and in fact the most Common one that People claim is the Most Annoying "What's the Sitch?" really isn't said that much. on average a total of just 1 time for each episode.. Sometimes Kim doesn't even say the exact line.. for example at the opening of Bad Boy Kim actually says, "Sitch me Wade" another time she just says "go" or "Go Wade".
The point is this saying a catchphrase over and over and over again some 2-3 times in any episode is what the difference is.. and in fact that's probably why Kim Possible isn't as annoying because not every time does she say those Catch Phrases (and on a side note perhaps Ron Stoppable's Catch Phrase is.. "That would be so cool...(In fact during the entire series Ron only said that a total of 4 times.. and of those only 2 were the exact same thing.. and that is over 65 episodes so far.. a platry 1 phrase every 15 episodes..
So in the end, I can see why they keep link silent.. after all if he said "Well Excuse me Princess too many times, it would detract from the gaming.. and it could even kill the Zelda franchise..
So Exuse me Gamers while I laugh again at this cartoon Link.. sure he's sounding like a wisenheimer but let's face it, like most folsk say, it's just a cartoon..

I'm not sure if anyone knows this but the name Link is really the nickname for the name Lincoln.
Allthough considering that the formerly silent Samus Aran may get a speaking role in Corruption(Support units and Team members for single play campaign were confirmed it seems, so communication is going to be present)I think they may eventually toy around with Link speaking. Allready Zelda and Gannon aquired far more major roles in the recent games than in the past games on the handhelds and older 2D systems. But it's too early to tell. TP was just released and I'm certain that they arn't even in the planning stages for the next consoel Zelda since the DS game is the next Zelda related release.
Didn't they work that line into Phoenix Wright 2?

Theres nothing wrong giving a char a catch phase. The problem is when the char say it too much. You think hearing link say his is tiresome? Try watching all 80 something eps of GI joe whit someone yelling "YO JOE" every 5 minutes? However there are some really lousy catch phases, the one from TMNT fast fowed comes to mind.
