Adult Swim has been advertising on sites such as Blogspot and DeviantArt, and have had banner ads for Tim & Eric, as well as Saul. Anyway, here's the preview (http://www.adultswim.com/shows/saul/index.html). The preview is above average, and it looks to have potential. It looks very Bannana Splits-esque, as expected.

Saul premieres on February 11th.

Edit: Oops, it's not called Saul of the Mole People, it's called Saul of the Mole Men. My bad.

No, more like a cross between Space Academy's Jason of Star Command and a Sid and Marty Krofft show, actually.

We've met Team Strata, but where's the "Saul" of the title?

He's the last guy who walks out to find everyone dead.

Can't really judge much from this, but the show does follow a serialized format like Frisky Dingo.

As much as I'm against live action on Cartoon Network / Adult Swim...

That was hella funny. A little cheesy, but still awfully funny. That clip was funnier than any entire 11-minute episode of any AS comedy series that debuted this past year! As much as it pains me to say... if they can be that funny for a whole show, then I'm sold!

Well, we know how Saul came to be at the center of the Earth and how the show will look.

I'm actually pretty hyped for it, it's an original idea and they say it'll be character-driven.

Looks interesting but why isn't it animated?

The answer is three-fold:
1) Cartoons are lies.
2) Live action is where it's at.
3) No one likes cartoons except liars, and post-infants.

Not all the shows we remember from Saturday morning TV in the 70's were cartoons. Saul looks like a sendup of all those cheesy live-action action/adventure shows like Earth 2 or Land of the Lost.

The show is an homage to the Brothers Krofft, who produced such shows like Land of the Lost (as you mentioned) and The Banana Splits.

Oh man I can see Sid and Marty Rolling in their Graves, (if they were dead..)

But yes this has that Cheesy Feel to it that borders on crossovers between HR Puffenstuff, Lidsville, The Banana Spilts, and even.. Dare I say it, ElectroWoman and DynaGirl..(Holy Weirdness Electrowoman!) ...

But seriously why Stop at Spoofing Sid and Marty? Heck this is a blatant plug against shows Like Power Rangers. and we all know it..

But my verdict on this is still up in the air, but I can tell you this.. if this is supposed to be paired up with Assy McGee, then I can say that Tom (Goes to the Mayor) Peterson and 12 Oz Mouse, are sleeping in the same bed... together.. (EWWW!)

but let's face it.. Sid and Marty I feel would not approve... After all they wrote the book on Cheesiness.. (UH OH CHONGO! It's Danger Island!) and what about Wonderbug?

I mean come on, at least leave Land of the Lost out of this..(Kind of..)

They mentioned in some articles about the show that it was easier and cheaper to produce the show as a live-action puppetry thing then to animate it all, so the show can have a bit more of a lifespan in it's episode length, I guess.

It's not so much laziness as it is 'well, here's your budget, we can do it this way or that way, but this way is going to be a lot better to put your idea into'.

BANANA SPLITS was by Handa-Banana. I mean, Hanna-Barbera.

That's correct but they (The Brothers Kroftt) did the following that I know of.

H.R. Puffnstuff -- Boy chases after Talking Magical Flue to an islane inhabited by Strange Creatures and an Evil Witch who wants Said Talking Magical Flute.

Lidsville-- Boy Falls into oversized Magicians Hat and Lands in a Land of Talking (and Walking) Hats. Boy wants to go home, but Evil Magician (Portrayed by Charles Nelson Riley) wants Boy's Magical Genie...(Which he accquired from Said Evil Magician by accident.

Land of the Lost - Classic tale of Family who gets shoved into a land by means of a natural disaster (An earthquake) and who lives in a land full of Dinosaurs, Talking Reptiles (The Sleestack), and Chocka (A wookie Like Ape Boy..)

Dr. Shrinker-- Evil Scientist lures three Kids to his island and shrinks them.. don't have to go beyond that as the kids try to dodge the Evil Doctor and his Assistant (Who was The Late Great Midget Actor Billy Barty).

Wonderbug-- A Cheap version of Night Rider with a Magical Twist. Junky car takes three kids around but when danger threatens a toot of it's horn and it's Wonderbug a Hipped up crime fighting Dune buggy.. Nuff said.

Far Out Space Nuts-- Two Hapless NASA Workers get shot into space by accident when one accidentally hits the Launch button instead of the "Lunch Button".. Meet up with Strange Honking Alien...Have encounters with Other strange (and some of them are Evil!) Aliens..

Sigmund and the Sea Monsters-- Beach Boy Befirends Small Runt of the Litter Sea Monster named Sigmund, who is being constantly Pestered by older sibling evil Sea monsters.

The Bugaloos- Take one Pop Band, add Fairy wings, and throw in an Evil Singer (Done by Martha Raye, plus one German talking Rodent Voiced by Artie Johnson) and add in a Firefly named 'Sparky', and you get the weirdest Pop music Before Kidd Video ever came along..

And of course

Electrowoman and Dynagirl-- A Female version of Batman and Robin with Villains just as Zany as the Batman and Robin angle..And with Dynagirl saying "Holy (Fill in the blank) Electrowoman. The Feminine Dynamic duo get in and out of scrapes. Also if I recall had a Scientific Genius who was sort of Like Alfred the butler Plus one Kick Butt Car that could fly into space.. (Go figure)

and that my friends is what I know of Sid and Marty.. See It pays watching TV!

But seriously why Stop at Spoofing Sid and Marty? Heck this is a blatant plug against shows Like Power Rangers. and we all know it..

Because the 70's monster feel is disconnected from tokusatsu. That and Williams Street's thimble budgets can't afford the explosions found in your average toku.

Oh, and...this was just kinda there.

With character designs by the Krofft brothers. ;)

it's the first steps towards Oblivion in my opinion. seriously, no one asked for this stuff, so why do they keep making these poor business decisions? it's not like their ratings are in jeopardy, on the contrary this kind of stuff is what's pushing people away from the channel.

Because they can. Same reason they do anything the internet crowd frowns upon. Because they can.

yeah... new ANIMATED shows, not Tim & Eric's Mr. Show wannabe college dork routine.

Saul might have worked if the target for skewing was PR and tokusatsu rather than Land of the Lost and the Banana Splits sketches. I seriously doubt anyone from their target audience actually remembers those old shows, and that will probably keep a lot of the jokes from working.

Gee, then why make any new shows anymore?

I don't remember people clamoring "We want a Land of the Lost parody!"

I remember those shows. And not just because Nickelodeon reran some.

And while I remember them, I didn't particularly like any of them.

Apparently so.

I'm not ready to pass off this yet, considering the creator is Craig Lewis (writer on Foster's, Billy and Mandy), and other writers include Josh Gardner and Tom Stern.

I'm not saying it won't be well written, but I wonder if we may have Adult Swim's Megas (skews too obscure with the jokes and premise and therefore isn't funny).

Geez, why is everyone so down on this? Where's the Kroft love?

Seeing the Land of the Lost intro, I must say...the effects were awful. It makes early Godzilla films look like modern-day blockbusters.
