I always get mixed opinions when posting this question for discussion. I haven't done many opinion/discussion threads in a while, and we need more of them around here. So here goes, a real love-it-or-hate-it series: Hippety Hopper. Do you like or dislike it? Why?
I rather like it myself, I think several of these cartoons, particularly the Sylvester Junior films, are some of Sylvester's best. "Hop Look and Listen", "Pop Him Pop!" "Who's Kitten Who" and "Too Hop to Handle" are my favorites. Runner up would have to be "Light House Mouse."

I love the series. For some reason they have a reputation for all being the same, but they really aren't. I think the person who started that myth only watched the last two or something.

I have rather mixed feelings toward them. I don't entirely dislike the series as a whole but some shorts are definitely better than others. My favorites are "Hippety Hopper" (GREAT supporting role from the bulldog), "Pop 'Im, Pop" (Sylvester Junior's first and, IMHO, best performance), "Lighthouse Mouse" (wonderful gags from Sid Marcus here), and "Too Hop to Handle" (as mentioned in LT&MM, it is done slightly differently from the rest of the series and is well worth watching). However, "The Slap Hoppy Mouse" isn't that great (once the plot finally gets going, there's not much left of the cartoon; kind of a late starter, I guess), "Cats A-Weigh" is not a favorite of mine, and I have never liked "Hoppy Go Lucky" all that much (maybe it's just the gag where Benny "strokes Sylvester's fur the wrong way" that I dislike; to me, that gag is more stupid than it is funny). It is my personal opinion that "Cat Tails for Two" (the Speedy Gonzales debut film) was the better of McKimson's two "Mice and Men" take-offs with Benny.

I haven't watched any of the Hippety Hopper episodes in a long time, so it would be hard for me to think about individual cartoons.
I actually like them. I think it is in the same way I like Sylvester/Tweety and Roadrunner/Coyote. The ideas are often a little similar, but they are good enough to prevent me from getting tired of it.

I have always liked those toons, especially the Sylvester Junior episodes. Exaggerated though it may be, there's a lot of truth in the Sylvester & Junior relationship.
And I agree with Matt Y. that the Bulldog's role in the early cartoons greatly enhances the comedy.
Do any of you see a simlarity between the Bulldog and Sylvester in "Hippity Hopper" and Spike and Chester in "Tree For Two"?
