Other than the lack of bonus features, what are the cons of the DVDs for DuckTales, Darkwing Duck, Rescue Rangers, etc.?

Most notable is that there are no chapter skips. One episode = one chapter. Really annoying when you're someone like me who watches most of his stuff on a portable DVD player, and the battery dies halfway through an episode.

There's also the fact they didn't give the sets an audio or visual upgrade, either... if that really bothers you.

I could have sworn I heard a while ago that the Darkwing Duck DVD only had the syndication episodes, which have scenes missing, but I just looked on Amazon and there's nothing but positive reviews.

The only negative con I can think of is they edited out the commercial fadeaways in the first volumes of Ducktales and Rescue Rangers. Luckily they're not taken out on volume 2.

Oh, and the con on the Gummi Bears set is that during the mini episodes, it goes back to the main menu after the first half of the episode.

I thought the menus were kind of boring and the instrumental tunes were annoying.:marvin:

So far I've not tried anything older than a few years. But I've heard that shows have been so edited that they no longer have the originals.

As far as I know, the only edit in the Darkwing set is the replacement of the original hourlong premiere with the edited two-part version.

That more than likely means we'll get the same thing when we get 'Goof Troop' and 'Bonkers' in season sets, as those were hour long premieres that got broken up into two part episodes as well.

I'm not sure if the Goof Troop premiere was actually a two part episode or merely just two standalone episodes, though.

Same deal with the TaleSpin pilot (But DuckTales's pilot is uncut, though.)
Also one episode of Rescue Rangers (I think "Wrong Way to Uraguay") was edited (Fone Bone mentioned early last year).

BTW, the uncut pilot of Darkwing was released on laserdisc.

None of those are Saturday Morning cartoons first of all.

Darkwing Duck was on Saturday mornings. It used to air on ABC.

If it really bothers you, the visual quality isn't crystal clear.

Doesn't bother me though (reminds me of the days when we had crappier TVs)

Ducktales aired briefly on ABC when 'The Goliath Chronicles' was jetisoned off the schedule.

Maybe so, but the Volume 1 DVD focuses only on the syndicated episodes, starting with the two-part pilot (which aired the same day as the first ABC episode in most markets)
