After Bart convinces all his friends not to go to Nelsons birthday party, Marge forces him to attend. After the party, Bart becomes Nelson's new best friend and under Nelson's protection no one dares to mess with Bart. There's only drawback to his newfound friend/bodyguard; he can no longer pal around with Milhouse. So when the bully catches him on an illicit rendezvous with Millhouse, Bart begins to fear for his safety." Meanwhile, Homer find a hobbie. It's reading Lisa's Fantasy books. Homer reads Lisa to sleep and debates on whether to reveal the book's sad ending to her.

I sense some knocks on LOTR along with Fatal Attraction.

This one is actually pretty funny. It seems more like an earlier episode they would've done around 1994, as cliche as that sounds. Even the jerk characters like Homer and Nelson are coming off likeable.
"Don't use the b-word around me, it's offensive."
"What up, my bully?" "Hey, bully."
"How come they can say it?"
"*sigh*....they just can, ok?"

Nelson's "See what you made me do?!" line reminded me of Misery. Appropriate for the similarities in plot between that movie and this episode.
Not bad so far. Its plot is very well-structured, which certainly helps.

Why is Ralph with the 4th graders again?
Ok I liked this one. Really liked this one. I actually smiled through the whole thing, and I never do that with the Simpsons anymore.
(btw, in the past 5 minutes someone here at Toonzone upgraded the edit, quote and post reply buttons. I don't like them - too much needless upgrading going on around here. I can barely read the type.)

I loved that line. It wasn't a brand new joke, but it was delivered in such an original way.

Homer's alternate ending to Harry Potter was actually the funniest thing I've seen on The Simpson's in years. I actually laughed out loud for it.

The death of Greystache has given me hope for a better Simpsons. That was actually consistently entertaining.

I really liked this one too, which hasn't happened with The Simpsons for a while.
Best Parts:
-Homer's ending to the book
-The Brokeback mountain parody at the end, and "Haw Haw, I touched your heart".
-Man on the pole complaining about spoilers. I was waiting for them to pull that one.
I actually laughed! I hope they keep up the momentum with this.

Some bad moments, but they were few and far between. I liked it. It was a better Nelson episode than "Sleeping With The Enemy". Even though the episode's final gag ("Ha ha, I touched your heart") was sort of like the gags in that episode, it worked because there was only one of them.
Great episode.
...why'd I rate that a 4/5? I can't think of any cons in retrospect.
Also, anything with Spider-man is a guaranteed win.

aww bart and nelson were so cute!!
This show was magnitudes better than all of the rest of this season. Finally, a non marital problem episode.

I said it before and I'll say it again....Ay Carumba!
The rest of you didn't seem to have a problem....I'm sorry, but I'm going through the season 8 set and everyone's personalities are so much richer there, and the comedy is just that much better because of it. This is just "pick on Nelson day."
The book would have worked better as a general fantasy epic parody than something obviously based on Harry Potter. The pool is growing and it won't be just Harry for much longer.

It's not that it was season 8 quality, but I did like it.

You know, it's funny. Usually when I think an episode is funny there's a bunch of people on here who bash it relentlessly. But, now, when I didn't care for the episode, everyone on here is praising the episode.

Lots of fun pop culture in this episode - Hot Pepsi, "A Horse With No Name", Spider-Man and Dr. Octopus, "He's a Rebel", and Milk Duds.

This was a really strong episode. Okay, Nelson was a little clingy and, by the end, he and Bart were homosexual (sticking in a Brokeback Mountain reference...weirded me out), but a lot of the jokes were funny, and the episode had great momentum.
Nelson's party was funny, and the Homer/Lisa subplot was great. What did Homer say? "No one should ever have to outlive his fictional magician" or something along those lines. It was funny how Homer was so worried about Lisa's reaction to Greystache's death, and when she read it she just shrugged and said she liked Homer's version better.

That's how I feel about this week's American Dad talkback; I'm worried there must be something I'm missing if I'm the only one that loved it.

In this current Simpsons' world, this episode generated a lot of heart for me to care enough about Bart and Nelson's relationship with one another. That said, I did get a kick out of Homer/Lisa subplot, especially when they showcased the fantasy scenes, both the real ending and Homer's.
First Simpsons this season that I smiled all the way through when watching. All the jokes were funny, and I actually laughed through a good portion of it. And the opening sequence actually had to do with the rest of the episode! I think if more episodes come out like this, then I'll be a much happier fan.

Best episode of the season so far! Though I'm a bit disappointed that they didn't cut back to Marge after she went through all that effort and Homer got preoccupied with the book.
The best part was the sticks joke.

You just know you're going to have a bunch of little kids now carrying a bunch of sticks in a bundle saying they have a faget.

I agree that this is one of the best this season. The Homer-Lisa plot was sweet and it's great Marge and Homer only pretending to fight this time. I liked the parodies of Goodfellas, Brokeback Mountain and Harry Potter. The definition of "******" popping up when Martin said it was hilarious!
