I saw an episode on ne of my friend's videotapes and I saw that rating. Was there anything really intense in that series to require Parental Guidance? I mean I am sure it is nothing like Gargoyles.

Well, there wasn't a tv rating system when it originally aired. But anything with action elements tends to get an automatic Y7.

Kirby has a Y7 now. Go figure.

But why? TV-Y7 means a show suitable for everyone over 7 unless a kid below that age has some parental guidance. My sister was 4 when she was wacthing Aladdin and she had no problem.Jeez.

It had some pretty mature episodes, regardless of its humorous backdrop. The Ethereal and a lot of Mirage episodes were examples.

Though I haven't seen it in a coot's age, I think it was only TV-Y. I was watching that show along with Gargoyles back when I was four and my parents didn't care. But now that I think about it I think my dad wacted it with me a lot.

Not to mention the one where Aladdin cuts that plant dude's heart out.
Aladdin faced all kinds of dangers, lots of people trying to kill him. His enemies had swords and other weapons. No one got seriously injured, but it was more intense than a Y show.

Episodes like "The Lost Ones" and "Genie Hunt" were also quite dark, IMHO.

As the biggest Disney Aladdin fan in the Toon Zone Community and all of sentient existence, I think a TV-Y7 rating is fine. I'm in agreement with everything everyone has said above. The show aired before that stuff started happening, and many episodes had a slightly darker tone than shows which would get a TV-Y.

Did Aladdin do that or was it The Terminator? lol. I'm teasing. I think you might be talking about that magic plant guy whose heart and source of his magic was a pink rose growing out of him on his body in the area of his heart. He kidnapped Jasmine who talked to him for a while and sympathized with this Green Thumb cause, but there was a fight because Aladdin came to rescue her.
He went to swing his sword at the Plant guy but the plant guy stopped him. The sword flew out of his hands and grazed the plant guy, cutting the rose off. The rose was alive (obviously) but the plant guy withered. It's scenes and episodes like that which most likely gave the show a Y7.
I haven't seen that episode in ten years and yet I remember so much of it, as I do the whole show. Come to think of it, that Plant guy may have been voiced by Ron Pearlman. Correct me if I'm wrong. I didn't know who he was back then (not until many years later with Blade II, Hellboy, and Teen Titans).

BTW, the episode was "Garden of Evil" and it was one of the best episodes of the series.

I'd contest that, but thanks to Boris' link, your memory of the show is a lot better than mine is. But I still watch it every weekend on Toon Disney.
"Garden of Evil" was a good episode, and pretty mature. Aladdin had others in the same vein.

The Ethereal was probably the freakiest episode of the show period, as it dealt with apocalyptic judgment day type stuff.

Sure enough; that was IMO the darkest episode of the series and there were plenty of contenders for that spot. I can't count how many times that city was attacked. Why did anyone live in Agrabah?
Even more unbelievable: she did all that because Sultan didn't say "the people." On that subject....what was with the extreme all-powerful moralists on the Disney Afternoon? There was a Bonkers episode two years before this where the Keeper of Toon Time sabotaged his own duty and nearly killed every toon in the world simply because nobody ever said "Thank you" to the guy. Psychos!

Well, it is the "city of mystery." That, and they mentioned that it was on par with Babylon, Atlantis, and the rest as marvels of their time for some reason, so it had to be pretty well known, hence villains wanted to overthrow/destroy it....plus, they knew about Aladdin's heroics.
