The "Road to Wrestlemania" hype always starts the day after Royal Rumble, but it really begins at Survivor Series, where they have to start putting the pieces in place for what's to come. So working with what we have now, how would you book Wrestlemania?
Please stay spoiler-free.. don't mention that you hears
Here's my plan:
Main Event:
Randy Orton wins the Royal Rumble, announces that he wants a title shot at his "close friend" who stabbed him in the back years before, Batista. In fact, if he could have his way, he'd love to get all of his ex-Evolution teammates in one shot. Cue Vince McMahon, granter of wishes, who declares the main event to be Batista vs Ric Flair vs Triple H vs Randy Orton: Four-way Elimination! If Flair wants to go out on top, he'll announce this as his retirement match.
Realizing that this leaves Teddy Long in a bind, he also declares that John Cena will defend the world title against a competitor of Teddy's choosing. Teddy determines his #1 contender through tournament or lottery or whatever, and the match is set: John Cena vs Chris Benoit. A match that should elevate Cena in the eyes of his detractors at best, keep the detractors from going to the snack bar at worst.
The annual Undertaker match has turned into an event. I feel like the only credible person who would gain from beating the Undertaker at this point is Orton, so I'm not thinking in terms of who should beat Undertaker, but rather give an exciting match. I want to get the ball rolling with Royal Rumble aftermath. Show your "This Week in Wrestling History" where the Undertaker, having just lost a casket match to Shawn Michaels the night before, descends from the ceiling, but turns out to be Michaels in Undertaker's clothes. DX comes out and asks for that to be replayed, joking about good old days, which brings out Undertaker. Shawn Michaels cheated him out of the victory at Royal Rumble, he cheated him in the first-ever Hell-in-a-Cell at Wrestlemania, and they were instrumental in turning his brother against him all those years ago... he hasn't forgotten, or forgiven. Shawn, on the other hand, remembers that that casket match put him out for six years, should have ended his career forever. The two of them will settle it all by stepping one more time into Hell in a Cell.
Rob Van Dam vs CM Punk. Punk is pissed that a guy like RVD is world champion. Punk is better than RVD, he's STRAIGHT-EDGE!
Still haven't come up with an undercard that I like. You're upper-level heels are Edge, Big Show, and Finlay, top faces are Lashley and Jeff Hardy. Nothing's really jumping out at me, except maybe Edge vs Jeff Hardy, and you probably want to use Jeff in what I'm sure is the now the traditional Money-in-the-Bank ladder match.

Some good matches there Ein.
I always like to see Benoit back in the main event. Should such a match occur, I would assume that he'd be playing the heel to Cena's face.
I'm not sure I like the RAW main event. HHH has been in many WM main events already, and not to sound disrespectful but Flair is over the hill. I would make it Batistia versus Orton or Orton versus a returning Chris Jericho.
I don't watch ECW so I haven't seen much of CM Punk. I would assume that this dude is pretty good? Well maybe he can carry that blotching spotfest RVD to a good match.
There should be a money in the bank ladder match
For the womens title, I hope that WWE gives this Mickie/Victoria feud the same attention they gave to the Mickie/Trish feud. Lengthen it. Make Victoria beat Mickie in a couple tag matches to show how dangerous she is. Make Victoria the monster heel and Mickie the never say die face. At the very end, have the two of them face at WM23 and after a 13 minute match....Victoria is crowned new champ.

For now I got Hogan vs. Big Show.
HHH vs. Batista for the World Title. Yeah, I know. HHH wins the Rumble, then immatedly turns on Shawn Michaels, breaking his leg, making him miss nearly a year. HHH goes to Smackdown to get revenge on batista beating him 3 staright matches.
Taker vs. Mr. Kennedy, Kennedy. in a Hell in the Cell type match.
Cena vs. Umaga.
Lashley vs. RVD for the ECW title. Or Punk vs. RVD. Punk can also win the MITB match too.
Hardyz vs. Edge/Orton for the World Tag Titles.

For now I got Hogan vs. Big Show.Just grab the Hogan anthology, see Hollywood Hogan versus The Giant at Hog Wild 96.
Or if you want to see Hogan as the good guy against the Giant, try to find a copy of Halloween Havoc 95. That match was on a best of havoc VHS that was put out in 98. :)
Oh, wait... that Halloween Havoc is the one where Giant FELL of the top of the arena after the Monster Truck battle, and still showed up to wrestle in the main event. That's wrestlecrap worth owning. :D

What...?! I recall a Monster Truck battle but I don't think I remember that.

It'll never happen but my ideal Wrestlemania match is HBK vs. the Rock

I thought I'd throw my hat into the ring and voice my opinion. I'm not predicting SD! and ECW because I really don't care about those shows anymore.
Raw before Royal Rumble:
Vince McMahon says that there will be a surprise entrant holding the #30 spot who is coming to shake up the WWE and the fans will never ever be the same again. John Cena who currently holds the WWE title, talks about squashing Kevin Federline 3 weeks ago and because of that, Johnny Nitro demands a title shot at the RR to get payback. Only problem is Umaga is set to face Cena in a last man standing match so Vince decides to make it a triple threat no holds barred match for the title.
Meanwhile, DX and RKO are still feuding and are set to face each other at the RR in a losers must break up match. As far as the other superstars are concerned, there is a 15 man battle royal for the #28 spot at the Rumble. Carlito wins the match and is granted a very good spot in the Rumble.
Royal Rumble:
DX vs. RKO:
DX makes their way to the ring when RKO attacks DX from behind and destroys HBK with a chair before the match is officially started. HBK lays on the entrace ramp while HHH is dragged to the ring and is destroyed by RKO in a quick and painful fashion. RKO keeps their tag titles and beats down HHH some more before heading to the back. HBK limps to the ring and apologizes to HHH about the match. HHH holds his arms out for a hug and soon as HBK holds his arms out, HHH pedigrees HBK. HHH then grabs a sledgehammer and destroys HBK. HHH does the crotch chop and heads to the back while EMTs attend to HBK.
Umaga vs. Nitro vs. Cena
Umaga, Nitro, and Cena make their entrances and Umaga throws Nitro out of the ring and then beats down Cena. Cena makes a comeback and clotheslines Umaga over the top rope and plays to the crowd. Nitro sneeks back into the ring and dropkicks Cena and proceeds to hurt Cena some more until Umaga grabs barbed wire and then sneaks into the ring and destroys Nitro. Umaga then takes the barbed wire and chokes Cena until Mileena interferes and kicks Umaga in the junk. Umaga goes down and Cena then FU's Mileena. Nitro tries to clothesline Cena but he gets FUed instead. Cena then FU's Umaga onto the ring of barbed wire and pins the Somoan Bulldozer for the win. After the match, Mileena recovers from the FU and grabs a microphone. Mileena then says that she's tired of managing losers like Mercury, Kevin Federline, and Nitro. Mileena then kicks Nitro in the junk. Then after all the chaos has passed, a very pissed Umaga Somoan Spike's Mileena and carries her to the back.
Royal Rumble Match:
The usual chaos ensues for 40 minutes until Carlito comes out and clears the ring of all the remaining superstars in the match. Carlito grabs a microphone and says not even the devil himself could stop Carlito tonight. Seconds later, a bell sounds and the lights go out. Taker's music starts and Taker stands at the entrance ramp staring at Carlito. The stare down takes quite a while and when Taker finally gets to the ring, the lights go out again, pyro shoots, and Break the Walls Down! plays throughout the arena. Y2J stands at the entrance ramp with his arms stretched out and soaks in the cheers. Carlito and Taker stare at Jericho for a while until Taker turns to Carlito and attempts to toss Carlito over the top. Carlito counters and drags Taker over instead. Jericho runs to the ring and talks trash to Carlito before smacking the taste out of his mouth. Carlito and Jericho fight for about 10 minutes until Carlito goes for the backcracker. Jericho counters and locks in the Walls of Jericho. Carlito taps uncontrollably until Jericho lets go and sends Carlito soaring over the top rope. Jericho cuts a promo stating that he's back and is going to WM and will become WWE Champion. Then the RR broadcast ends.
(I'll post the Wrestlemania stuff later.)

Some matches:
ECW Championship Match (Anywhere Falls Extreme Rules Match):
Bobby Lashley v. Test
Why: For ECW to be taken somewhat seriously by the WWE, they have to have a true hardcore match with the two men brought in to reenergize the brand. Plus, ECW purists want to see if they can really do a "true" ECW match.
Third Annual Money in the Bank Match:
CM Punk v. Jeff Hardy v. Mr. Kennedy v. Sylvester Turkay v. Kane v. TBA
Why: A combination of youth, muscle, and talent makes up what could be a truly memorable match.
Iron Man Match:
Chris Benoit v. Shawn Michaels
Why: Two of the hardest working professionals in the industry deserves to show once and for all who's the toughest wrestler in the business.
Hell in the Cell:
Umaga v. The Undertaker
Why: Umaga's going to want to prove that he can defeat any one (and going berserk after his match with Cena at the Royal Rumble), and the Deadman's going to take him up on that challenge in his match.
World Heavyweight Championship:
Batista v. Randy Orton
Why: After Orton and Triple H have a controversal ending at the Royal Rumble, Orton decides to take on the man who has eluded him for years, the animal Batista.
Triple Threat WWE Championship:
Triple H v. Edge v. John Cena
Why: Triple H will have a claim to take on the WWE Champion while Edge, who will complain that he didn't get a fair shot because he was eliminated by his former partner Orton, also wants a claim to the title. So, the powers that be decide the match be a triple threat match with Cena in the middle of the madness.

I'm bumping this thread up because I just thought of a killer Mania feud.
Mick Foley vs. test.
For years, Foley has been making fun of Test for his lack of charisma. Examples like this (From Wrestling Observer):
Mick Foley as Santa Claus introduced the AWA Christmas Brawl on WWE 24/7 this month. He has son Huey pick out a gift from under the Christmas tree. The gift he brings back is a DVD called "The Best of Test." They open the box, and there is no disc inside. Foley ends up laughing and spitting milk all over his Santa suit.It would be a harmless mid to lower-card comedy feud with the payoff being a match at Mania. Test could rip on Foley for being out of shape and rip Foley's new BOOK apart. You could even have Foley appear on ECW to boost its profile/ratings.
I much rather see that Foley/Vince or Foley/Nitro.

World Heavyweight Championship
Batista v. Mr. Kennedy
Mr. Kennedy eliminates Undertaker to become the 2007 Royal Rumble winner. Kennedy is forced to face Undertaker at No Way Out by Teddy Long, but he survive thanks to some help. During the build-up to Mania, he mocks Batista by doing Rocky-esque vignettes. Kennedy then says he can't properly train in Detroit because he afraid that he will be a victim of a drive-by.
WWE Championship
John Cena v. Randy Orton
Johnathan Coachman orders a fatal four way between DX and Rated RKO on Monday after the Royal Rumble. Rated RKO ambush Triple H before the match starts. Triple H can only give token resistance during the match. HBK fights valiantly but succumbs to a spear from Edge. Before Edge go to cover HBK, Orton hit Edge with an RKO.
ECW Championship
Lashley v. Test v. RVD
The ECW title is on the line in an "extreme" triple threat match.
U.S. Championship
Chris Benoit v. M.V.P
Benoit issues an open challenge to anyone in WWE, and the primetime player accepts
Cruiseweight Championship
Gregory Helms v. Super Crazy
Super Crazy wins the Cruiserweight invitational for a shot at the gold.
Women's Championship
Mickie James v. Victoria
The final installment of this epic feud come to a conclusion.
Champions v. Champions
Cryme Tyme v. the Blue Bloods
Cryme Tyme and the Blue Bloods defeat their brand's champions during the Royal Rumble. The storyline will be a clash of cultures.
Money in the Bank
Jeff Hardy v. Matt Hardy v. Johnny Nitro v. Joey Mercury v. CM Punk v. Kane
Mr. Mcmahon brings back the this match, and says the participants will be determined by a random drawing held on WWE.com on February 28.
The Undertaker v. Umaga
Umaga attacks Undertaker before taker can tombstone Kennedy at No Way Out. Armando Alejandro Estrada claims Umaga can't get any respect in the WWE, but Umaga will get some respect after he whips Undertaker's    at WrestleMania 23.
Triple H v. Edge
Mr. McMahon refused to listen to anymore demands from DX and Edge. He makes a match between Triple H and Edge If Edge wins, DX must disband. If Triple H wins, Edge will never be a number one contender for any titles on any brand.
King Booker v. Shawn Michaels
Booker decide to extend his domain throughout the WWE, and he is starting with RAW. King Booker won't tolerate Michaels and DX's antics in his kingdom
Brand Challenge
Sabu, Sandman, & FBI v. World's Greatest Team, Chris Masters & Carlito v. Brian Kendrick, Paul London, Finlay, Sylvan
You can't have a Wrestlemania without a battle royal or a large tag team match to massage egos.
