I was watching Rocky on Spike and was quite excited when I saw a RB spot. I've been waiting forever, and I've yet to see anymore. Blast!!

Does anyone know how the 'TV spot' system works??

As lame as the premise seemed, the preview looked like a fun movie. :)

What do you mean?

You know, when do they begin to appear, how long before the films hits theaters and all.

In this film the Stallion faces Mason 'The Line' Dixon, the current champ after one day watching a (ESPN?) simulation of what two fighters from two differant eras would look like. The simulation gives the match to Balboa and this reawakens his fighting spirit. After a few small fights, the Stallion is approached by Dixon's people to fight, because the simulation got a long of people wondering.

We gotta put this in the baby book!
But seriously, TV spots are completely expected at this point.
Considering you were watching Rocky, I'm not surprised they're stirring up buzz with an ad in the middle of the first movie.

That depends on several factors, namely the marketing budget. I think TV spots usually start at least 2 weeks before opening day, so right about now seems right for Rocky.

It looks like Rocky's wife may have died, and it looks like his son might talk him out of the retirement for one final match against the champ. The Rocky chants are also cool, and the preview almost makes me want to go see it. I don't necessarily like that they are calling it Rocky Balboa though. I would honestly prefer calling it Rocky VI, but the movie industry supposedly wants to pretend that V doesn't exsist.

Yeah, there aren't many numbered sequels these days. I guess the studios want each film to have more of a separate identity, and not seem like retreads. Although it's more difficult to remember the sequence of the films.

I remeber seeing the poster for this movie in a theater. I thought someone made the mistake putting up the poster becasue I thought it was for the first film.

I can't believe they're making a sixth movie. The 5th one was considered the worst, and now 16 years later they're making another one?

And now they're continuing another movie franchise starring Stallone:
Rambo.

Adrian died of cancer, Rocky owns an Itallion food joint, Jr.'s (Peter from Heroes!!) a big-time business man, who's no time for his old man who spends his time talkin' 'bout the past.

The trailers on Youtube. It makes me want to cry each time I watch it, to be honest.

I'm sure that's it, sine there was X-Men 3: X-Men United, Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith, and Spider-Man 3 is coming out. It seems to me they have no problem using numbers. In fact, outside of James Bond, most movies that are prequels or sequels are still using numbers.

I know alot of people think that this is stupid idea and that we don't need another Rocky movie(I was one of those people), but something aobut that trailer has just sparked my interest. I don't know why but there is just something aobut the Rocky character just makes people feel good inside. And suprisingly this is one of the few movies that I actually want to go see in the theaters.

Star Wars is kinda unique for obvious reasons, and X-Men 3 was never used as the actual title. It's official title is X-Men: The Last Stand, abbreviated to X3 in some promo stuff. Reference: IMDB. Wait, no, it was called X-Men 3 in Singapore. I guess you win that one on a technicality.

Your one good example is Spider-man 3. Here are some more good ones: Shrek 2, Clerks 2, the Grudge 2, Basic Instinct 2, Saw 3.

On the other hand, you've got Pirates of the Carribbean: Curse..., Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties, Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift, Van Wilder: Rise of Taj, Ice Age: The Meltdown, Underworld: Evolution. How many colons can you find in movie titles from the 1990's?

Rocky is just one previously numbered franchise that broke away: Star Trek, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, American Pie, and Die Hard all pop right into my head.

Up until the late 80's, probably nine out of 10 sequels were numbered. It became less frequent in the 90's, and in the 00's (has there been an official name for this decade yet?) it seems to have become confined mostly to animation and horror movies, with colon titles becoming increasing popular.

By colons, you mean 'subtitles', right?

You are kidding, right? Please tell me you're kidding.Rambo actually seemed like a more viable remake to me than Rocky did, back a couple years ago when i heard both were on the table (edit: as I just found exhibited by the various rumored plots on the sequel's Wikipedia page) ... there seem to be a lot of fun things you can do with an aging vietnam vet trained in guerrilla warfare in 200x. And I recently heard they signed on Kiefer Sutherland for the sequel, so consider this 24 fanboy's ticket bought, just because I want to see who would win in a fight: Rambo or Jack Bauer.

Will it be Rambo 4? Or will they go with 'Rambo: Pretentious Subtitle'?

From December 1st to 20th you can ask Sly himself a question by email at http://www.aintitcool.com/node/30807

Don't be shy. Feel free to ask if he ever hid in Estelle Getty's dressing room.
