...Why? They're not going to be that hard to find since there's so many... Why camp out for a Wii for over a day when you can probably go an hour before it comes out and get one?

Only one Wal*Mart getting 20-40 Wiis in a town of ~60,000.
A lot of which have been clamoring for this thing.
I'm not taking any chances.

Went to a Wal-Mart Supercenter a little while ago and the guy I talked to about their Wii launch didn't know squat. He simply said that they weren't starting a line until some time on Saturday (didn't know when; I'm probably gonna go at noon and wait for 12 hours), and he didn't know how many units they were getting. A little research online has shown other Wal-Marts around here are getting around 50, so that's a fair estimate.

Meh, it's too early to go camp outside a store right now. One question though: If you didn't reserve and you go to a store where they already took reserves (like say Toys R' Us), do the reservers get top priority?

Thankfully, I have my Wii preordered from Amazon with one day shipping. It's status is listed as shipping soon, so I expect it to arrive on Monday or Tuesday.

Yes. What most places will do, or should do is pull aside all the pre-ordered units with the slip to who it belongs to, if there's any left - there's consoles for everyone else. But pre-ordered quantities get first priority.

...That would be the definition of reserving a system, wouldn't it? The people who decided to place a down payment ahead of time get first whack at purchasing.
Preordered at EB Games. Heading there tomorrow night at 11 in anticipation for midnight. A true preorder bonus, if you preordered a Wii, you got a recorded phone message from Reggie himself thanking you. :p

I haven't gotten a "call from Reggie"....I haven't gotten a call at all. *worried*
If nothing goes wrong, one should be waiting for me at Gamestop this Sunday. All these stories of people getting assaulted for PS3s have me nervous though. I want to request a plastic bag that can't be seen through.
Actually, in my dream world, the Wii would be in such overpowering demand that I would be chased by 500 people waving weapons all the way home, and Sony would be sitting on unsold boxes.

The FYE I reserved my Wii at isn't having a midnight opening. So yeah, I'm stuck strolling in 11 AM Sunday morning for it. Really, no biggie if some people get 10-11 hours ahead of me.
You can bet your ass the second I am home with Wii in hand (:p oh god, I though I was past the double entendre phase too), I'll play the hell out of that SOB...just as nature intended. I think.
Anyway...now it's time for "What games are you getting?"!
Zelda(...no duh)
Trauma Center (been meaning to pick up the DS version, but this will do nicely instead.)
Super Monkey Ball (Sounds like a blast of traditional SMB fun plus tons of mini games.)Red Steel has been downgraded to a possibility. Why? Well, I've been a skeptic, and the lack of reviews (http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/932528.asp?q=Red%20Steel) is making me a bit shakey. I may wait on it for now even if it does get decent reviews.
And Wiimote man is my hero. :D

I'll be going with my brother Sunday morning to pick up the one he preodered. He's already got Super Monkey Ball and Red Steel, and both look awesome. We're hoping there's an extra copy of Zelda left when we get there.
I'll probably pick up a 360 game while there, if I don't have to spot my brother(he's unsure exactly how much he has in his bank acount). And due to having the entire week off from school, this is gonna be a freaking sweet Thanksgiving break.

Anyway...now it's time for "What games are you getting?"!
Naturally, I'll be getting WiiSports as a pack-in title, in addition I have Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance reserved. After that, the priority goes to finding WiiPoints Cards for the Virtual Console (with games the week of launch like SimCity, Super Mario 64 and Bomberman 93). I'm also considering Madden 07 and Spongebob. (And, no, Zelda's not really my thing, but it does look like a marvelous game for its millions of fans.) Of course, I want to find at least 1 more controller/nunchuku combination.
Good luck with everyone getting their games, accessories, and system tomorrow (or soon!)!

Twilight Princess is the automatic must-buy for me. I'll rent other games (Rayman, Monkey Ball; possibly Red Steel) through Gamefly and buy them if I really enjoy them. I'm also looking at buying one or two VC games (maybe Mario 64 since I'm thinking about trading Mario 64 DS in).

I GOT MINE!
YES!
I got there at 5:30 PM on Friday and there were 10 people already in line. It was fun, but also cold and uncomfortable. We had 360's hooked up, and someone brought their PS3.
Still, I got my Wii (No Zelda since they don't come until Monday sadly... :( )

I checked out my local Circuit City/Target combo at around 9:30 PM. While Target had a sizeable line, there were barely 10 to 20 people waiting at Circuit City.
I drove off to grab a slice of pizza, came back, and the line's size hadn't changed at all. I asked the folks in line what Circuit City was planning to do for the launch, and they weren't sure. So myself and a couple others walked next door to the Target, and learned that Target wouldn't be opening its doors until 8:00 AM the next morning. So those folks standing out there would be there all night and into the morning.
Walking back to Circuit City, the store security supervisor came out, and welcomed us to (peacefully) camp out outside the store for the night. He said that after the PS3 fiasco, they didn't want a publicly-known major midnight launch or anything of the sort. He said nothing would happen with the Wii until the store manager came to work at 5:00 AM, at which point it would the manager's decision to either start selling the Wii to the patient campers, or hand out numbers or something. But in the meantime, store security would be hanging out all night with us, and would keep the store "open" so we could use the restroom facilities.
I sure as hell wasn't going to stand out all night till 5:00 AM, so I came home. Since I'm gonna be up anyway, I'll drive back over to the Target at around 5:00 and wait for the manager's arrival. Hopefully, I can get my Wii then. If not, I'm going home without one, because I have to go to sleep and be at work at 1:30 Sunday afternoon.
The store personnel said they had 60 Wii, and there were barely 20 of us in line, so it shouldn't be too hard to get one. They also said they'd be getting a new shipment of 30 Wii by next week.

Got my Wii and Twilight Princess. Waited at a midnight release at a 24-hour Wal-Mart; store ended up with 20 units. I was #18 in line at around 6pm.
It was actually really organized. Wal-Mart itself was just really loose with this by itself, but one really cool guy took charge of it all and organized everything: took down names, talked to the manager(s), confirm unit numbers, etc. Bunch of DS players, and someone actually bought a 13" TV to watch Michigan vs Ohio State, as well as a laptop user with Family Guy DVDs.
Ended up having to wait an extra thirty minutes because the manager who was organizing this launch "slept in" and was about 15mins away from the store. It's Florida, but it was really cold for us (I think it might have been low 60's to mid 50's?). But everything turned out in an orderly fashion (except for some latino woman showing up at the last minute and trying to snatch the last Wii voucher from the person who it belonged too).
Surprisingly, the store received zero Nunchuk attachments, so that was a bummer to people wanting to get their Wii Sports Boxing on. They did have Retro Controllers along with Wii-motes, as well as (from what I saw) Zelda, Red Steel, Madden and Rayman.
Just tried out the interface and played a bit of Zelda. I can't comment much on the latter, but overall the Wii Channels setup is smooth as silk, and the remote makes it feel really cool to navigate. Weather and News channels aren't up yet (the update needed for them hasn't been released), but the Wii Shop Channel is up. Nothing really worthwhile up there except for the VC games.
I'll post more when I get more hands-on time with Zelda. I'm really tired. Glad I didn't go through with my original 12-hour waiting plan; 6+ hours of waiting nearly killed me. :(

I couldn't get a Wii(I'll try and pick one up when I go home for break on Tuesday), but I've heard the Freeloader works for Import GC games, so that's at least a plus.
Too late did I realize the flaw in my strategy of getting a Wii being 'No one but like 20 people here will even care about the Wii'. Wall Mart realized that, too.

Sorry this is real late I'm tired so I'll get right to it. My friend took me to Gamestop 5 mins till midnight since its reserves only. I picked up extra wii-mote and nunchunk. They had no Wii Points or Classic controller. I bought GT over Excite Truck (Red Steel and Zelda I paid off at Gamecrazy I'm getting that afternoon). I played it at friends house and we spent 2 hours playing Wii Sports (bowling, tennis, and baseball). More later.

No Wii for me.
Turns out there were *ZERO* stores actually doing midnight launches or early morning openings in my area. So while the lines were short and sweet, I'd have to wait around till at LEAST 8:00 AM, and unfortunately, I have to work today, and I gotta get some sleep.
I'll try and catch the second shipment next week.
No Wii for mii.
When's the next shipment? I might just settle for getting a 360 to quench my next-gen thirst.
My Walmart had over the limit by 6:30 pm, so I devided to camp out at target, got there at 12:30 and I was fourth in line, by the tme it was 3:45 there were more people than wii's at the store, luckily i was able to get one, it was mighty cold and i've been up all night, and as excited as I am the wii is going to have wait, at least its here and i can play it later, this thing is not going to be kept in the shelves this whole season!
it was COLD it was 22 degrees!

The extremely low supply and extremely high demand. Nintendo plans on getting 4 million of these things to us by the year's end.

Chad Lee and myself camped out for 15 hours in the cold weather in front of Target, having to deal with annoying kids. I'm so glad I camped out for the system, because I'm not doing it again for another few years, I got there at a little after 6pm on Saturday, and was 8th in line, and people continued to pour in until a little after 4am, then a ton of people showed up half an hour before the store opened, and by then, the store had already met reserve.
I picked myself up a Wii points card, LoZ:TP, Red Steel, and Trauma Center: Second Opinion.

1.) The launch craziness is still going on in some places, so full reports won't start showing up until later today.
2.) By all accounts, Nintendo's console was in greater supply than the PS3, so there will be fewer disappointed gamers today than Friday; hence, less incentive for insane behavior.
3.) If you're an evil bastard out to mug some poor line-waiting schmuck for his hard-earned cash and/or console, would you rather go for the $250 console or the $600 one? By virtue of its higher price, the PS3 made a more tempting target for nefarious crooks everywhere.

Went around to attempt a midnight purchase last night, but was denied at 3 Wal-Mart's (only 16 units per store -- what the hell?) and Meijer was full up as well. Decided to go home, sleep a bit and then go out at 4:45am to Best Buy. Brother and I got there as #41 and #42 in line. There were over 100 people there, but only 86 tickets/units were handed out.
Got in, bought the unit, Zelda: TP, Excitetruck, extra Wiimote and nunchuck and a virtual console points card. All total I spent $454.36...way more than I had planned on, but whatever. I got a little over $8 off with some Reward Zone coupons I had, so that worked out nice as well.
Pretty sweet so far. Played a bit of Wiisports, may dig into the other stuff later on.

My brother and I arrived at the mall close to ten this morning, but didn't get in line until quarter to eleven, since the line itself was small. I tried playing one of those prize grabbers while waiting, but it ate my quarter, which pissed me off and made my brother laugh.
When Gamestop finally opened, it took about half an hour for everybody ahead of us to get their system, even though we were only around 15th in line. We ended up finally getting it, and then came home. I can't really remark on the system because my bro cheesed out and left to my grandparents and if I touch the Wii I die.
But I freaking want one of those Reggie shirts those guys at Gamestop were wearing, they were 100% awesome.

Wii launch day fun!
Amazon.com:
Wii System: $249.99 + $3.99 Shipping - $3.99 A9 discount - 3% rebate on credit card = $242.49 ($22.50 off store price including tax)
Circuit City:
14,000 Points: $139.93 - $35 for sale prices - $15 off total purchase of $99 or more + $5.39 tax = $95.32 ($53.00 off regular price including tax)
EB Games:
LoZ:TP: around $30.00 for five games to trade in during Summer of '05's trade-in-five deal = around $30.00 ($22.99 off regular price including tax)
Marvel Ultimate Alliance: Same trade in five deal, but with around $35 in games = around $35.00 ($17.99 off the regular price including tax)
Total package of Wii System, 14,000 points, and two games = $402.81 ($116.48 saved).
I was very surprised that Circuit City still had Wii Systems in stock 40 minutes after opening. I was fifth in line at the time and would have been the second to last person to get a Wii had I wanted one.

Got some more hands-on time with Zelda and am now just over 2 hours into it (but I've been taking my time). As far as I can tell, Wii controls don't really hinder the game at all. In fact, the sword-play with the Wii-mote is actually really, really fun.
I guess some people are having trouble connecting to WiiConnect servers around now (of course, I set up mine at 1am last night, so not too many people were on I'd think). And I guess a lot of people haven't made Miis yet. There's a "Mii Parade" option where you can allow Miis made by other people connected to WiiConnect24 to come onto your system. I've gotten nada so far.
News and Weather channels still aren't up. Hopefully they're coming in the coming week. The Internet browser channel still isn't available from the Wii Shop channel. (By the way, wasn't it confirmed that the Opera browser would be free for like 6 months? Can someone confirm?)
And another neat little thing on the Wii Message Board: it records your total playtime on the system whenever its on. Whenever you go into a channel, it'll automatically record your time from when you entered to when you left, and it'll calculate the total time spent there. Guess it's good for people who want to keep track of friends/family sneaking playtime on their Wii.
Well, Toys R Us lied to me and instead of saving units for the reservers, sold the 25 they had to anybody who got there. I can't find Wii anywhere now. Maybe later.

I left around 6:30 last night to go find a store. Passed by Game Crazy who told me they were all sold out to those who reserved and warned us not to go to Wal-Mart or Target because they both already had lines around the store. Of course, he was talking about the downtown ones because I went to the one near my school and luckily the line had barely started.
There was a sign near the freeway that said the line started there and only two people were in front of me, only one of which was actually buying a system. So I stood next to them for 2 hours doing almost nothing until numbers 3 and 4 finally showed up. Then my mom had come back and brought me a chair and a sleeping bag. She took up a spot at the end of the line for my cousin who was also going to buy one. There was nothing really significant that happened though, other than a guy driving by shouting "PS3!", and an employee driving out at closing time and screaming "I already got my Wii, mother(you know what)" then throwing a display box at us.
The guy in front of me kept the line orderly and knew ahead of time the number of units the store was getting. After person number 24 (the number of units the store had) came, he pretty much told everyone that came that they probably wouldn't get one. Then I spent the rest of the night drinking Coke and playing my DS until around 12 when I fell in and out of sleep, not conking out until around 3.
I woke up around 6:13 to the sound of my mom's voice, who had brought me coffee. More people had arrived during the night, but the line wasn't very huge. So most of us cleaned up our area and employees started to arrive. At 7 am, two guys came out to us and explained the rules: They would hand out tickets to people in line and it was first come, first serve. About a third of the line didn't get a ticket and we were lead single-file to the front of the store. We had to wait another hour for them to open while early birds tried to line up only to be told they can't get one. Then the moment came.
The store opened and the ticketer guy lead us to the electronics section. There we handed our tickets to a security guard and chose our games and stuff. I managed to get a Wii, an extra Wiimote, ExciteTruck and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. My cousin got the same except for ExciteTruck.
As for the system itself, it is absolutely small. Pictures don't do it justice, you have to see and feel the thing yourself. The controls took me a little getting used to, but by the time I inserted Zelda, I was perfectly comfortable using the remote. Wii Sports is fun but very basic, and I'm horrible at ExciteTruck. Hopefully I can get better in time. As for Zelda, I didn't read any reviews but it controlled fine for me and its definitely the best Wii title out right now.
Overall, it was a fun experience but I wouldn't wanna do it again. The cold is brutal to you. Or maybe next time I'll come more prepared with a heater and a tent.

Wii Sports is fun.
I'm at my grandparents now, and my Dad, stepmom, aunt and uncle are over and they are wanting to play it, so... good work nintendo.
(It really is fun, luckly I'll get Zelda tomorrow.)
Here is my mini-review,
The system looks fragile though it might be because I just bought it and want to take care of it :) Though it is not as 'sexy' in real life, it still looks good, I felt bad putting my fingers all over it and smearing it even if i had washed them ;(
That strap better work on the Wiimote! I really got into some of the games which I was about to throw the controller  I'll definately strap on everytime. The sensing got some getting used to but within minutes I was already making huge leaps on controlling it! It feels great, the speaker does add to the game however the quality is pretty bad which kind of sucks, the rumble feels great.
The Menus were fun to navigate. It found my WiFi easily like a computer, however downloading the updates and what not took a LONG time, hope that is not too often or that it does it when the system is asleep in wiiconnect24..
While I don't hear the fan, there was definately noise coming fromt he Wii, nothing too loud or anything but noticable. Playing Gamecube games is somewhat annoying because of were you put the controllers, (at least with wired ones),
It seems to read discs slower :( wii sports sometimes feels a while, nothing too bad but similar to other cd/dvd consoles, I guess the gamecube spoiled me with fast load times that resembled cartridges.
Wii Sports:
fun as a mini game, its ture I never liked sports but this games get boring after one game, though I can see my self playing them every other day for quick fun. As a pack in its fine as a full game no, im not sure i'll get wii play now,
Tennis:the funnest game, not dissapointed like I thought that you dont move the character around,
Bowling: meh, not only that, this game is not very realistic, i kept making strikes and hitting pins when in real life I suck at it,
Golf: Never been a fan of golf or liked golf games, its somewhat fun but not too much (though its mostly my dislike of real golf)
Baseball: Kind of hard but fun, hopefully i'll get better,
Boxing: very fun however the controls are not very responsive ;(
minigames modes and train age: entertaining
Again as a full game it lacks, as a pack in game extra its fun. I do not like how Miis don't have arms or legs in a lot of stuff..
Now my review sounds mostly negative, but I was just pointing out small quirks that annoyed me, other than that, this system is worth every penny, it brought me back into gaming and delivered, the wiimote is an awesome new way to play videogames, I can't wait to play a full game that inmerses you with these controls, mini games are fun for a while but a full game would be the greatest thing (which i think Zelda will be :D),
this is trully New-Gen, and it'll be hard playing games in a different way from now on.
Edit: btw the person asking, weather won't be available until Dec. 20, News until early January, and browser no one knows, hopefully sometime soon (i'm assuming early next year and yes free for download the first 6 months).

Well I've been playing Zelda, it's really no different for controlling 95% of everything with the N64 or Gamecube controller
it's just that it feels abit mroe loose since the nunchuck and remote are two pieces
throwing items is the same, riding epona is the same, talking to peiple and looking at things of intrest is the same.
However I had to read the instruction manuel for the sensor bar, mine seems to be very very tempermental as far as centering it goes

Spending the night at Toys R Us paid off. Because today, the Wii is mine.
It's everything I hoped it'd be and more, and I simply love playing it. I only have two games: Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2, and Wii Sports. I pre-ordered Twilight Princess, I got the shipment email on friday, so it should be arriving in the mail tomorrow.

I got it at ToysRus with my mom. (We were number 62 in line.) I was so excited that my hands were shaking when they handed me the box.
There was no Rayman in stock, but I was lucky enough to get Zelda and Trauma Center. What I reall wanted for a Wii experience was Red Steel, but that was out of stock too...
I haven't played any other game except Wii sports. I am easily entertained by the Wii.

I have a few questions:
(1)Does a Wiimote come with the console?
(2)Does the Classic Controller work with Wii games?
(3)Is the Wiimote hard to use?
(4)Does the Wii play DVDs?
(5)Does the Zapper work with Wii games?
Got me a Wii, played me some Wii Sports. Really fun stuff. Now I just need to find someone to play it with.
Also purchased a card for the Virtual Console. Set up my internet and downloaded Mario 64. I'm gonna wait until more VC games are added until I use my last 1000 points.

1) Yep. You get a Nunchuk too.
2) Not with any so far. Developers are free to choose any controller or controller combination they want (Remote, Remote w/ Nunchuk, Classic, GCN, etc.). While no Wii games (other than Virtual Console games) take advantage of the GCN or classic controllers, future games might (SSBB will use GCN for example).
3) Haven't gotten my system yet, so I'll leave this one for the others.
4) No. A future upgrade might allow it, but no plans for a U.S. Wii DVD upgrade at the moment.
5) You mean the pointer? Of course they use it. Twilight Princess does and I'm sure a few others do as well.

I'm gonna add my own questions here
1. Can the sensor bar be placed on top of the tv or does it HAVE to be under it?
2. What's the minimum distance that needs to be between you and the bar in order to function
3. What's this about a software upgrade upon turning on the system? Is that just for connecting to the internet

1. It can go either place.
2. It works about 20 feet away, but that's as far away as I can get from it.

walmart: 20 wii's
shopko: 11 wii's

those are the only stores that sell them in my area and all of them were sold out as of 8:30am on sunday. i could've waited in line for 4 hours at walmart and got one, but i didn't want to stand there in a very cramped, confined area when i could easily get one next week or the week after. i DO have twilight princess and an extra wiimote+nunchuck, though

1. Either or; there's an option that lets you tell the system whether you placed the bar on top of or beneath the TV.
2. I believe the manual recommended a distance of at least 3 feet from the TV and/or sensor bar.
3. You only need the upgrades when you actually hook up your Wi-Fi connection. It's just a standard system update (and I think it's required for the Wii Shop).

Yeah thats what I'm using. Also going through the connetion set up thier is an option to use a cable connetion some how. Anyway I'm really enjoying the wii so far. The Wiimote feels great and is lite as is the nunchuck though it feels a little to lite making it feel cheap. I picked up Zelda and Excite Truck. So far I'm loving Excite Truck. Its really fun and adictive. Have'nt really started playing zelda and Wii sports yet. Though my Dad got a real kick out of playing tennis.

You can buy a USB-to-LAN adapter for about $30 or so and run a ethernet cable to the Wii. Although it'd really just be worth it to get a Linksys (and I highly recommend only buying Linksys as opposed to Netgear, which didn't work at all with my DS Lite) router for $40 or $50.
Assuming you have broadband/DSL service already.

Picked mine up this afternoon when I walked into a Best Buy.
I played around with the menu for a bit and tried to load up some pictures from my flash card. The cool thing about this feature is you can play around with them via Mario Paint. The icons look like Mario Paint and they remixed the classic song. Heck they even brought back the Rocket Ship that erases everything. You can also play a puzzle with each picture you have where they are broken up into little pieces. It's really neat having something Mario Paint related back on modern consoles.
So far I've found Red Steel to be a lot of fun. I don't know what everyone was crying about since it's a great launch title and great for multiplayer. The controls are a little iffy, but with a nice sized TV (we were playing on a 25") you can handle single player no problem.
Wii Sports is where it's at for the minute since my friends and I are big on Tennis and Boxing.
Nothing much else to report about it thus far. I'll pick up the new LoZ later this month since I'm too busy doing finals and other things.

Well I got to play with my friend's Wii a bit today. Got some Wii Sports in and a bit of Zelda. Zelda's gameplay with the controller is different enough to warrent getting it for Wii but if they're graphically the same (I don't know if they are) I'd go ahead and get it for Gamecube if you don't have any other reason to buy Wii yet. Zelda itself is a very good game from what I've played and watched my friend play. The graphics aren't "amazing" but they're pretty nice. I get a Metroid Prime 2 vibe from the game actually. Which is strange for a Zelda game but the Twilight scenes feel rather neo-gothic. IMO it's a lot of fun to attack with your hand motions and aiming projects has never been easier nor more satisfying. And the game's items are pretty freak'n sweet. The new boomerang sends a guts of wind which can be locked on to 5 targets at once. You can take a bomb and use your boomerang to pick up the bomb and gust it to another location or right to an enemey (which is always good times).
Wii Sports can be dissorienting at times because it's very simple. But it is a pretty neat way to show off how the system works.
It was a lot of fun to play it but as tempted as I am to go track one down with what money I do have (just enough basically for the system and maybe a game) I can't justify the purchase yet because while I like Zelda it's not one of my favorite franchises. Really my two must haves are Brawl and the new Ninja Turtles game and Brawl wont be out for a while... TMNT does come out in March though so I guess I might have a Wii by then. But I've got too many finanical responcibilities to guy such expensive toys at this time so I'll have to pass for now and just enjoy the Wii's of others.

It was a long night of searching, hanging with friends, thinking about where to go, finally ending up in front of a TRU at 8 in the morning (they opened at 10). I thought I was a little too late, and the line was pretty long... but not too long. They handed out tickets... and I was number 56 of 60. Hellz.
Haven't spent as much time with it as I've wanted to since I had overnight work and I needed to sleep off an entire, busy night (and morning) of Wiihunting. First impressions: Wii Sports is fun, Rayman is somewhat confusing but twisted, and Zelda doesn't feel that much different, but looks great and once I get past the stupid training sequence, will probably be amazing. And I don't know if I could ever go back to traditional controllers because the wiimote just feels natural.
I did want to share this: I get home yesterday and immediately hook up my system. First game, of course, is Wii Sports. I try the bowling, and I have moderate success and fun at it. As I'm learning how to bowl, my dad walks down and sees what I'm doing. He's a casual gamer, into the older stuff but can't figure out the new controllers if his life depended on it (trying to get him to play an FPS was an experience). Interested, he asks to try it.
It's a learning curve - he initially can't get the motion right - but sooner or later he gets it, his scores and skill increasing as he grows more comfortable. And as he gets more comfortable, he's enjoying it. a lot. He's really liking the bowling game - and later today I'm gonna show him the other Wii Sports games. And maybe Rayman.
If my dad is any indication, then Nintendo has achieved its goal with stunning success.

Meh my overall reactions to the wiimoyte is just that it's ok, it's nothing mindblowing, but it more or less has the same feel as any arcade gun, just very small with an analog stick attached.
allthough you can't lay down and play or play at a direct angle without screwing up the sensor bar allignment. I've just noticed this quip when looking in first person mode in Zelda, link automatically turns his head, but thankfully the wii also allows for the analog stick to control his head turning as well(the analog stick also goes complete 360 degrees where as the wii remote only goes 180)
maybe they'll release a remodel of the sensor bar that can plug into one of the various ports like the Wavebird receiver. It would also alleviate the fear of it being dropped. the extra cord that's attached to it and the height it's currently at would probably break it in one way or another if the cord was tugged.

That's why Nintendo encourages and recommends you use the adhesive pads that come with the system and secure the bar to a surface, so that a slight tug on the wire or bump of the sensor bar won't send it tumbling.

I don't know to be honest. I'm guessing the ones that have no icon or are turned into litter were resized or changed the direction on the computer. I'm not 100% sure, but I think they should work. What are you talking about? I doubt many people even bothered to buy it just to sell it. Heck, I was at Best Buy yesterday, got there around 6 am, and I was #8 in line and they had 74 units. Only a couple people were there to ebay it, but everyone else (who was a much younger audience than what I saw on Friday for the PS3) seemed to be there because they wanted the system.
As for a restock, one of the employees told me it will either be tomorrow or for Black Friday.

I got my Wii in the mail today, it was home after school and work.
It works flawlessly. WiiSports is a blast--love Bowling, Tennis, and Golf (Target Golf For the Win!) especially. I've also toyed with some of Monkey Ball's mini-games. Downloaded NES Pinball (still fun!) after the update went on without a hitch. The blue light comes on briefly, but was never that important anyway.
I love the controller. I really get into the game, and my Dad picked up on Wii Sports Bowling instantly. My grandparents didn't play (yet), but watched with interest.
Can't wait to try out Monkey Ball's single player mode and Marvel Ultimate Alliance.
Looking forward to downloading SimCity, Sonic, Mario 64 and many future VC releases too.

Gamecube games are identical; there is no difference. The catch is you can only play them with a Gamecube controller. You also can't return to the Wii menu unless you turn the Wii completely off (hitting "reset" just has the same effect it would on the Cube and merely resets the game).

Just stick the GameCube disc in the slot (anywhere in the slot actually, it autocorrects and pulls it into the right spot), go to the Disc channel and boom. You do have to reset the console physically to return to the main menu, however. Even with composite cables, it seems GCN games are a bit sharper. Could just be me though.
Wi-Fi is used just for WiiShop at the moment. A wired adapter is coming soon from Nintendo, however, probably by the time News, Weather, and online play come online.

The Firmware for the system has gotten messed up after the initial update when I first hooked up the console, so I'll never be able to get the Wii online, is what I'm told by the Nintendo support line. Luckily, they're replacing my Wii free of charge, only bad thing is I lose all my save data, which includes my 10 hour romp into the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

You can't get a cheap SD card and copy the data? Some places might have a few 64MB cards for $15 or so.
EDIT: Circuit City has a 1 GB SD card for $10 after rebates this week.

Nintendo provided a list of compatable SD cards and makes in the instruction manuel(or it's an internet link to site that provides a list in the manuel)
do not use an incomptable card, make sure that it's one of the listed ones or else you'll screw up the system or data.

All that list says is to use the official Nintendo ones. I can't find an actual list.
In any case, Best Buy's gonna have a 2gb SanDisk for $29.99 on Black Friday, so I'll just pick one of those up there.

I think that is the list... the manual deceptively calls it a list of known compatible cards, yet it's really a list of official Nintendo SD card manufacturers (which is only one company, so far).
Basically, so long as it's a decent speed card and 2 gigs or less, you should be fine.

Best Buy also has the SDY 2 GB cards on sale for $39.99 this week if you don't want to fight the crazy Black Friday crowd.

For those of you willing to put a little effort into saving money (actually less effort than it takes to shop on Black Friday), Buy.com has memory cards very cheap. You can get a 1GB SD card from Kingston (http://www.buy.com/prod/Kingston_1GB_Secure_Digital_Card_SD/q/loc/273/202743519.html)for $29.23. Add a filler (http://www.buy.com/prod/All_Aboard_Trains_Coloring_Activity_Book/q/loc/106/202710596.html)to get it above $30 (be careful to choose something that's free shipping compatible). Use Google Checkout to save $10 on orders over $30. Send in the rebate to get $14 back. Bada-bing bada-boom, you've got a 1GB card for under $9.

Well, I got Twilight Princess today. It's great!
The controlls are great, and the graphics are very nice (although I'm sure they's be better with an HD TV w/ Component cables). I've barely scratched the surface. I've gone wolf, and met Zelda. I only wish my instriment wasn't a disposible piece of grass.
I'm not giving any spoilers, but I'll be happy to anwser any questions (keep it basic, I'm only 3hrs 46mins into the game).
i have a question about the blue light,
Mine only turns on for one second when i turn the console on, i thought it turned on when you put a game in or took it out? mine doesn't do that, did i get

Afraid not. The light only glows for a second when the system is turned on, and once you've enabled WiiConnect24 on your system after the second firmware upgrade, the light will glow if you have a new message awaiting you. According to Interweb legend, the blue light is so hypnotic that Wii owners are said to e-mail their systems themselves just to see the light illuminate.
thanks, i mainly just wanted to make sure i didn't have a broken unit since i remember reading it lit up when you inserted a game, it doesn't bother me at all.

I went by Best Buy this morning, but they said they haven't gotten any new shipments of the Wii since launch day. So now it looks like the earliest I could pick one up is Sunday.
I was able to pick up a copy of Zelda and a Wii points card, though.

So I'm gonna ask my parents for a Wii this Christmas, and I need to know some stuff...
Besides Zelda (not much of a Zelda fan), what game would y'all say is most worth it? Red Steel's definitely caught my eye...
Can someone explain to me the concept behind these upgrades?
Does the Wii have official memory cards or will I have to use only SD cards?
And how much money are the Wii Points cards?
I know I could probably find these answers elsewhere, but I know someone around here probably won't mind answering. Thanks!

Personally speaking aside from Zelda, nothing much noteworthy is out for the Wii, everything is pretty much launch fodder or ports. I figure by the second wave of Wii games alot of these titles are going to be bargain bin, so if you're not in a hurry I'd wait it out to save money on software. Good stuff is arriving in the coming months however.
The Wii has 512MB of internal storeage so you don't need memorycards if you're playing on one console and not transfering to another. But the Wii can use other brand SD cards effectively, not just the official it seems
The Wii has firmware updates, which is pretty much serve the same purpose as in the PS3,PSP, and 360. it upgrades the operating system and can allow for different downloadbale options(i.e. the Online Store).
Ah, cool! Thanks. I think I'm still gonna go with Red Steel though, if only to live my fantasy of fighting the mafia holding a katana "gangsta" style.
This information helps loads, though.

So, for the people who have them, are they actually fun to play for lengths of time, or do the games get monotonous when your constantly waving your arms around?

Wii Sports + Twilight Princess FTW!!!
And for the last friggin' time, you don't have to make huge motions if you don't want to. In tennis, you can move the controller like a racket or just flick your wrist, it still works.

At first I assumed that you could just play online on the Wii without hooking it up to a computer or anything like that. I have broadband so I'll be able to connect it to my computer and play online but I have one question for Wii owners. How hard is it to hook it up to a PC and play?

... You don't hook it up to a PC...
You hook it up to a wireless router.
UNLESS, of course, you're talking about the WiFi adapter. If you are, then you just have to have the dongle plugged into your PC, have it turned on with the software running.

I know that you don't have to move the remote like crazy in order to do things. I probabbly worded my statment wrong but what I was does it get monotonous when you have to keep doing the same thing over and over again by flicking your wrists in the game. MUA and Madden 07 are two games that immediately come to mind in that regard.

From my experience, I find that Zelda has a tendency to do that, I eventually just used the Z target overhead slash because it was quicker to do in fast paced battles

snake']... Why camp out for a Wii for over a day when you can probably go an hour before it comes out and get one?
Thats what I did for my local Target ( actually, I went 3 hours ahead of time, but whatever ), and I managed to snag one at launch day. Just recently, I got LoZ: TP.

No Wii for me yet. :( But I did get to try Excite Truck at EB Games last Friday as well as some of my friend's new Wii tonight with the Wii Sports bowling game. All I have to say is this is fun! Everything from the start-up menu to the unique new gameplay makes this system real fun. It could use a couple more titles but other than that, it seems like it'll be a worthwhile new system.

But I did stop by Target to pick up The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for the Wii, the Players Guide, a 1GB memory card, and 4,000 Wii Points. So when I do finally buy the system, I'll be prepared.

I got the Wii, an SD card, and the Nintendo WiFi thing. I'm really impressed with the motion-sensing and the general interface. Wii Sports is a fun package and the Fitness mode guarentees quite a bit of longevity (it'll be even better once I get more controllers). Unfortunately, my dad seems to be very reluctant on getting games beyond the pack-in until Chanukah, extra controllers were sold out, and the WiFi package I got doesn't work on Macs.
Is there a way to get the WiFi to work with Macs? Because if I can't play Twilight Princess for another 3 weeks, at least some Mario 64 lessen the pain of waiting. And are the controllers available ANYWHERE (outside of overpriced eBay auctions, that is)?

Something tells me that Stephen Colbert giving the Wii a plug on his show will boost the appeal to the casual crowd. Just seems like the sort of big push companies want.

Question about connecting the Wii to the 'Net, as I've never had an online-capable gaming system before (well, excluding my PC).
I know it's a wireless connection, and it will work with any broadband Internet connection, which I have. But I need that Nintendo WiFi (WiiFi?) thing? How does that work exactly?
I went to Nintendo's website, and their site performed a quick check of my computer to see if the Wii's WiFi would be able connect properly, and the results indicated that my system failed the test, noting that my Windows Firewall would block it, and that I'd have to manually open up certain ports somehow to allow access for the Wii, which doesn't seem very "mainstream" at all.

Buy a wireless router. A decent one is only a bit more money than the Nintendo Wi-Fi dongle and has 10 times the functionality.
