Huh... I have to say I liked it. Stolen premise and excuted very well. Only thing that could ruin it is if either there's no explanation of why Hopper experiences the same day over and over again or if the reason is something stupid.
I'm hooked... not blown away, but pleasantly hooked.

I liked it as well. I found it amusing that during the show the commerical for that deja vu movie with Denzel Washington was on.
But I like the premise of this even if it's been done before. And it was executed well. I'm wondering how many repeated days he'll experience during a normal episode, if they'll continue to do as many 5 (which I think there were last night) or maybe have an entire episode devoted to just one or two days. Perhaps a day where he just says okay, I quit (which was hinted at in the previews). Obviously he will get tired of having to explain everything over and over again to his girlfriend. I also wonder if he'll try to save that woman again or if she'll continually end up in the hospital.
Other things I noticed and liked was the fact that the apparent bad guys seem to not know about his experiences. I, like Hopper, originally thought that sedative they injected into his neck those two times was the cause of it, but no we have to wonder what is. He also thought that if he could stay awake for the new day he might escape the loop, but that didn't work.
Also, I like how whatever happens to him injury wise in a previous day carries over to the next day. That way you can escape a "Groundhog Day" type scenario where he just tries to kill himself or get himself killed multiple times. I'm guessing if he dies once, that's it.
One more thing, on that last day, the gun wasn't found in his apartment. Did something change? And how? If I'm writing this much about the show then I'm intrigued, which is a good thing.
I'd say this show could be a suitable replacement for Lost until it returns. I just hope ABC will let it live and air all 11 remaining episodes. It probably got decent ratings last night (what with Dancing with the Stars finale and the former Lost timeslot), but if it experiences a significant drop off next week I'll be worried. Then again, they let Brothers & Sisters stay on the air, so I'll be pissed if this doesn't get the chance.

11 episodes isn't much and by the sound of it it seems like they got all 11 in the can. So, I don't worry about not seeing the end of this.
Good points all around above. What did change that one day where the gun wasn't found as evidence? I think I stepped out of the room for a second. What'd he do different?
Also, there was a homeless bum that noticed Hopper.... I think he might also be caught in the time loop.
Another thing I wondered is how could this go more than one season? Or was it ever intended to? Way I thought, maybe he could make it to the next day in the next season and then he'd have to do THAT over again 'til he got it "right." Or they could go with a new hero and star each season that is experiencing the time loop.
But yeah... I thought it'd be pretty throw away, but I'm down. Blasphemy I know, but I definately enjoyed it more than LOST which as hard as I've tried, I can't get into.

Has anybody seen this show on ABC? It's basically Groundhog's Day meets 24. I really like it, but the ratings are pretty bad. Good thing there's only 11 episodes in the first season so the story will get wrapped up even if it gets cancelled.

I'm still watching it. I figured ratings wouldn't be too high for the show, with it being the holiday season and all. Plus, their supposed hook of getting the Lost fans to tune in is falling flat because they're not revealing anything or making it enticing with those sneak peaks. All I've seen so far is Desmond acting strung out over his future seeing crap.
Another aspect of the show that I'm liking is that Hopper has to write down notes on all the things that goes on in a particular day so he can remember clues further work the case. I also thought that we would see another person that was repeating the same day with that guy in the bar, but it turns out he is just a big Dodgers fan :D. JC mentioned earlier that there was a homeless guy in the police station on that first day that seemed to know something was going on, but we haven't seen him since then, mainly because Hopper hasn't been going to the station lately, but that looks like it'll change next week. Also, it seems that some incidents can influence other people, with his partner having that urge to call him one of the days. Something that had not happened before.
I guess he gave up on trying to save that coffee lady that gets hit by the bus.
I liked that he finally had enough of those two guys following him, his girlfriend, and his sister that one day and just went out and shot them to hell. Also, it looks like his sister isn't getting beat up by her husband. I can't recall if he ever said something about there being other cases of her getting beat up by him, but if he isn't beating her, then where did she get those bruises from?
The show is entertaining, I'm hoping ABC doesn't pull it off the schedule before its run has been completed. (Bad ratings)
I'm guessing Hopper will save everyone when he finally gets the day right. (Pool girl, Bus woman, etc)

Why would they need to give an explanation? Groudhog's Day never explained why Bill Murray relived the same day over and over again. Besides, what explanation could they possibly come up with that would make sense?

They'd basically do the seasons 24 style where the next season would focus on Hopper reliving a different day a year or so after the first season.

I liked this episode.
I knew something was up with his sister after it was hinted to the audience that she didn't get those bruises on her arm from her husband. Seems she's in league, or at least caught up, with the guys that keep kidnapping Hopper or killling Rita.
Speaking of killing, this episode showed more the consequences of something "little" like Hopper stealing the murder book and having Brad get shot multiple times or showing up at the house of that guy that keeps kidnapping him. I like how he refined his technique each time. First it was just a punch to the face, but lead to almost getting shot by a shotgun. Then it was reasoning, but that didn't work. Then at the third attempt it was just flat out "here's the stuff, make it go away." This led to kidnapper guy finally getting killed.
Good quote at the end with shadowy figure saying "people usually don't heed warnings, but they do learn from examples" to Hopper's sister.
In three weeks there is some comedy crap coming on at 9:30/8:30 so I hope that doesn't mean the show is axed. I lost count of what episode it's on. From the previews it said Hopper was one step away from finding out, so I think there are at least 3 episodes left.

I'd say it's an excellent story that isn't being told very well. For a show that's about a guy who is trying to use every moment to figure out the mystery it very much lacks an economy of storytelling. This past episode in particular demonstrated how he'll do something in the first half of a day and then... what?
things get introduced that are dropped for whatever reason, such as the bad guys that had been on his tail haven't been an issue for "days," they no longer seem to be attempting to capture/ kill Rita. Apparently that one chick just keeps getting rammed by that bus now.
Some of that could be explained that he's still actively escaping from the bad guys following him, calling the bus chick etc. and they're not showing it but it still stinks of sloppy storytelling to me. I figure the bum will return, although the way they dropped him in the story and then ignored him is annoying.
And characters can be inconsistant. His partner's change of character can partially be explained by what ever happened that one day but then why is Damien suddenly acting so Buddy-buddy? Although I am hoping that his giving the skin-heads to Damien will result in Damien suddenly being able to trust him in the way his partner did.
I will say I was surprised with his sister being involved and thought it was handled well, except that she's been used so sparingly I didn't actually recognize her when they showed her shooting Chad. I'm also surprised on that developmnet because I thought Rita was the one that's in on it. In all of the instances of her being "killed" her death is never actually shown, it's quite possible they've been faked. But having both Rita and his sister in on the conspiracy seems a bit much.

The reason the bad guys aren't on his tail is because everyday he places the homing beacon onto the dump truck. They only kill Rita if they capture Hopper. And I assume he calls the bus chick everyday now. Do you really want to see him do the same things everyday?

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- ABC is shuffling its deck chairs once again, pulling both Wednesday newcomers "Show Me the Money" and "Day Break" from its schedule effective immediately.
In addition, production has been halted on "Money's" back-six order (read the story). In total, just five of the show's seven completed installments have aired.
Both "Money" and "Break" hit series lows this past Wednesday among adults 18-49 (a 1.7 rating for the former and a 1.4 rating for the latter), making the news not much of a surprise. "Break" had previously been set to run through December 27 before going on hiatus.
The network is expected to stream the seven remaining episodes of "Break" on ABC.com.
The news marks the Alphabet's first official cancellations of the 2006-07 season. Still sitting on the shelf, but technically alive are "Extreme Makeover" (three episodes yet to air), "Help Me Help You" (four), "The Nine" (six) and "Six Degrees" (seven).
As for their replacements, repeats of "America's Funniest Home Videos" (which currently air on Fridays at 8:00/7:00c) will shift to Tuesdays at 8:00/7:00c starting on January 2 while various repeats of "The George Lopez Show" and "According to Jim" will fill the network's Wednesday schedule on December 20 and December 27.=(
I was really starting to get into the show too. At least they're streaming the remaining episodes though. I swear to god, Adam Baldwin had something to do with this. Angel, Firefly... and now Day Break. STAY AWAY FROM MY SHOWS BALDWIN.

If anyone's wondering why abc.com has yet to stream the next episode, it's supposedly because of music clearance issues.

How did this show fail? It was nothing short of incredible. Ugh... can someone show when the next and final episodes hit the 'net?
At least we don't have to wait for the DVD release....

I don't think they're gonna stream the eps anymore. Strange how this copywrite music thing came up after the show is cancelled. All the other eps were online fine before the cancellation. =/
EDIT- The ABC.com schedule has Daybreak scheduled for this Wednesday, Dec. 27, at 10 pm after 2 hours of George Lopez. This might be a mistake, but I'm crossing my fingers. Might be why they ended up not putting it online...

Well, ABC has removed ALL the streaming episodes of Daybreak. I hope it airs this Wednesday, because if it doesn't, it doesn't look like there's gonna be any other way to see it.
Edit:Well, they just changed the schedule. Daybreak is no longer scheduled for Wednesday. That's it. We're screwed.

Think they're holding out for some of that DVD release cash?
I think they may be aware that of late, Nielsen ratings don't really show how many people are watching and are fans of the show. But they DO know that good shows make mad money in DVD sales. If they released the show any other way, no cash for them.
Anyone think this might be why we're getting punked?
How many more episodes were left?
I have to admit... if I were able to see the shows for free, I wouldn't buy the DVD's. If they put out the DVD's and they're reasonably priced, I'd get 'em.

Yeah, sounds like they're ready to milk us for some DVD money. Damn it.
By the time they release the DVDs I'm probably not gonna care about the show anymore...

Ummmm...how could you possibly not know this. You just posted a message above mine saying "It's back tonight." Unless you mistakenly thought it was coming back to TV, which would be kind of silly. Why would ABC put a low rated, cancelled show back on TV, and right near sweeps, no less? We're lucky we get to watch the episodes at all.
