View Full Version : Could Family Guy come to Adult Swim?

On the AniGen board, I see that Family Guy has been cancelled and there has been some discussion on how well it would fit into Adult Swim. I think Family Guy is the ideal show for Adult Swim, and I love the show to death. What are the chances Fox would let go of the rights to it to let Adult Swim air it? I get the feeling not very likely, myself. :(

Very good, actually. Much moreso than Zim.
FOX is usually very generous in this area, and has often sold shows and entire blocks and channels in times of desperation, which is what they are in now.
So yeah.
If Williams Street wanted it, they could get it.

You know, you'd think that in times of desparation, they wouldn't green-light something so bad as "That 80's Show".

Family Guy and Tick gets cancelled and we get That 80's Show. Yeah, that's fair.

Amen on the Tick/ Family Guy thing. It's typical network exec thinking though...

I have the feeling that Family Guy would more than likely go to Comedy Central than Adult Swim (fitting in with The Critic probably).
However, if Family Guy replaces Baby Blues, then I'm all for it.

If Adult Swim didn't exist, you'd probably be right.
PICK UP THE SHOW, WILLIAMS STREET! GO! GO! GO! :P

Dont you think that Family Guy would go to FX?

I do not want it to go to Comedy Central. I don't want to have to get up early Saturday to watch it or stay up really late Sunday to watch it. Forget it. Might as well take it off the air then let them have it. They have been giving their animated shows the crappiest time slots since they killed the Sunday night line up.
And as for FX....yeah, it would be good to see on there, but I doubt we would get to see any new episdoes. That's just a dumping ground for re runs. I don't know if AS could swing the deal, but at least Family Guy would have a snow ball's chance at getting new episodes made on Adult Swim.

Since when does FX run cartoons? I only thought FX had that one Squigglevision show, Dick and Paula.
I seriously think it's either Cartoon Network or Comedy Central.
And I'm no cheerleader. You and your accusing eyes! I feel like a piece of meat around you all.

Was Dick & Paula bad? Assuming it also comes from the same company that produces Home Movies and produced Dr. Katz.... I'd think it'd be at least mediocre.
Hopefully Family Guy replaces Baby Blues.

It was okay.. but..
Hysteria is to WB as Dick & Paula is to Soup2Nuts.
It was an attempt to be funny edutainment like Science Court but it didn't quite work out that way.

i don't think family guy would fit in adult swim.
plus, i hate the show.
i'm all for clerks going to adult swim, even thought there is a 1/1,000,000 chance that when they return in 2003 that it will be on AS. we can pray though

I think Family Guy was made for Adult Swim. The show is made for adults as it is, and is labled for mature viewers on the DVD release in the UK. I would love to see a block of Clerks, Family Guy, Mission Hill and the Oblongs.

Actually this is the first I've heard of Family Guy being cancelled. When did this take place, or when will it take effect because I saw a new episode last night (along with other Family Guy fans, I'm sure). Itd be cool if CN picked it up, but doesnt it have a heavy price tag?

I might not be remembering right, but I remember seeing some animated shorts on the Cosby show a couple of years back that looked like squigglevision. Could've been Soup2Nuts Not sure though....

If Fox says "Yes," then, Yes.
It would be a plesant surprise for my brother, John, who is a constant watcher of both Family Guy and Adult Swim.

It was cancelled pretty recently. Matt reported the news on the ANI GEN board, citing a personal friend of his who story boarded the show, who is now out of a job. They may still have some new episodes to air, but the show has ceased all production.
CN could pick it up, but it would more than likely cost them a million dollars per episode to make new episodes.

Well that's no problem. Baby Blues costs a million dollars per episode and CN wanted to renew it.

FOX will retain the rights to Family Guy until the end of the season, even if they do not run them. Family Guy and The Tick (live action version) technically did not get "cancelled", FOX just did not order any more episodes. As good as they may have been, they were pretty low rated, of course they were up against Friends, Survivor, and Smackdown, three big contenders on Thursday night.

Family Guy is suffering for the same exact reason why Married...with Children ended: Fox kept moving their time slot and not mant people knew when it was on.
I didn't like The Tick with Warburton (looked stupid), but The Tick cartoon was ok. My vote stays with Family Guy.

Actually, FOX told FG staffers that the show was cancelled.
How did you think I found out? A storyboarder told me. FOX made the decision to give the show the boot. That's cancellation.
And they formally announced The Tick's cancellation. That was on webpages all over the net.

Family Guy is adult swim material. I think it would come on adult swim sooner or later.

Surprisingly, it seems Fox got the numbers and demographics they were hoping for with "That '80s Show."

I think it was mainly because people were interested to see if it sucked or not; or just to see what it could be about -- so it got rather large numbers. I'm guessing (just like XFL) it's going to go down in ratings anytime soon.

It's amazing that they would cancel Family guy, and that people would watch smackdown friends and survivor over it. Maybe I am just more cartoon orientated than most of humanity as yourselves are, but doesn;t that just rub you wrong? I mean the three competitor shows SUCK ASS, and I know, I have watched them. *shakes head*
