That 80's Show Talkback

The previews made it look horrible, but that didn't stop alot of people from tuning in and giving it some great ratings. Personally, I thought the show stunk. I found the plot predicatable, the characters so one-dimensional I could see through them, and that laugh track to be incredibly annoying. There were one or two good gags, but overall, the show was just flat out bad. It's pretty bad when all they plug is that friggin It's a portable phone! joke...augh!

And somehow, it pulled in some monster ratings for FOX, and helped to boost their Wednesday night comedy lineup. Just over 10 million people watched the show on FOX, which is roughly the same audience for THAT 70's SHOW.

So - comments on the premiere episode?

I didn't even bother with the show. Just the title itself smacks of badness and unoriginality. I imagined the show itself was far worse.

Shows like this get picked up and the Tick gets the boot.... anyone else confused? Thankfully, I spared my sanity and didn't watch it. I'd really lose no sleep if it was cancelled within a month or so... but you gotta wonder, how far off is "That 90's Show"? :mad: :p

Why would anybody watch this? It was up against Enterprise!

I MIGHT have taped it if I had been home, but I had a work related meeting that required me to set my timer for Enterprise instead. I doubt That 80's Show could have topped Tuesday's That 70's Show, where Eric gets the hots for his cousin. That was the funniest episode I have seen in a long time! "We ain't raisin no damn flipper grandkids!"

I actually watched a little bit of it. Laaaaaame. I didn't really like the characters, and am not willing to invest time in the show to let them grow on me :P And yes, the laugh track was very annoying, it seems they specifically got one that sounds like it was actually from a show made during the 80s. They couldn't use as many 80s gimmicks as they could 70s in That 70s Show, probably because everyone still remembers the 80s :P They should have never made this show, and if they had to, it's way too early for it now. It would have been cool if That 70s Show progressed into That 80s Show though, with the same cast and such.

I always thought Family Guy did a good job of referencing everything in the 80s..

So why they'd kick it off for a show that is almost the same thing, only really really really really really really stupid, is unknown to me.

i thought it was pretty bad. it just wasn't funny. and what was with the very last segment? no sir. i don't like it. that 70's show on the other hand....niiiiice. if that girl were my cousin, well.......we'd have many flipper kids to raise. sick, huh? probably.

I didn't mean to watch it, but I turned on the tv and it was just about to start, so I decided to stick around. -_-.......I'll admit that some..very few...parts of it were mildly funny, but from the get go it was very blah, not interesting, not funny, and just very boring. That 70's Show was new, different, funny. But doing a later version of that just flopped big time. The 80's weren't that interesting, you can't have as much fun with it as with the 70's. Plus, the 80's, for some reason, just doesn't seem that long ago, and no one remembers much from that decade anyways I think. All in all, I only made it to the middle of the episode before I changed the channel. And I felt like I had wasted 15 minutes of my life, which I probably did,lol.

I taped it but could only handle the first five minutes and stopped watching it. Bad, bad, bad!

I think the damnable laff track was broken or something. They'd say something that wasn't even vaguely funny and it would go off. I just couldn't get past that. A line that surely even the writers didn't expect to get a laugh and there went the laugh track.

Ergh. The characters didn't grab me, and it seemed just like a big excuse for gratuidous 80s references which... news flash... aren't inherently funny! Do something with them, don't just throw them out there! Yeesh.

The thing that makes That 70s Show is that, for the most part, it DOESN'T reference the 70s to death. Maybe the 80s show will become that soon, but as for this ep... ech.
