It's been some time but I decided to give the Cartoon of the Week another shot and decided to start off with one of my favorite Flintstones episodes, "The Hot Piano."

After years of forgetting their anniversary, Fred finally has an opportunity to remember as their special days happens to fall on Trash Day. To make up for his past mistakes, Fred wants to buy Wilma a special present, something she's always wanted: a piano. However, on their budget, he can't afford it and must resort to buying it off of a shady little man on the street.

Laughs ensue as Fred and Barney constantly try to sneak the piano into the house while making sure not to wake up Wilma. The piano gets out of control and Fred gets pursued by the police and gets a speeding ticket. After an explanation, a few police officers give him a break and help deliver the piano. Wilma is overjoyed to be awaken the next morning by Barney and the Bedrock Police Force singing "Happy Anniversary."

However, her enjoyment is short-lived as the police mistake Fred for the black market salesman 88 Fingers Louie, arrest him, and confiscate the piano. Once the real Louie is arrested, Fred is released and goes and does the usual anniversary routine and goes and buys some flowers for Wilma.

A highly enjoyable episode, "The Hot Piano" is easily one of my all-time favorite Flintstones episodes. I have fond memories of it mainly because it was featured on a video I had when that featured several other Hanna-Barbera cartoons that I watched over and over again. It has many, many funny parts to it, including the recurring gag where Barney's hands get crushed and Fred brings him to the mailbox to scream and 88 Fingers Louie's dialogue about Barney being the "muscular little friend."

So, does anyone else remember this classic episode of the Flintstones?

I remember this episode... I liked the song number at the end, and of course, the introduction of the frequently-seen-through-the-series "Stoneway" pun for pianos...

I re-played this episode, the other night. It is decently amusing! It covers humerous subject material that, more than likely, only a married adult could relate to and adding credibilty to the fact that this was an adult cartoon show. The piano moving gags were pretty standard, but done well.

A rarity (and most often seen in the Flintstones first season) is that the entire episode was animated by one animator. In this case George Nichlaus. Also, if you were paying attention, would have heard the now standard Flintstones theme being played by Barney on the Xylophone.

Additional voices included Daws Butler as "88 fingers" / the patrol cop / police sargeant / and the mail man. Frank Nelson was the music store salesman.

It ranks in my top 25 Flintstone episodes.

Fred(in calm voice) : Get this piano off of my foot so I can tear you limb from limb.

That always makes me laugh.
