Meh, I've room for only twelve, and I doubt I'll even be able to think up twelve, but nonetheless, don't feel like you're restricted to just the list I give you...

EDIT: I've chosen Amuro and Char, after all, I don't think you can top their extream rivalry, or its prestigousness (spell?).

Amuro and Char's rivalry is legendary man, leading to one of the most knock-out resolution fights in anime history (CCA).

Goku and Vegata > Amuro and Char > everyone else

Gutts Vs. Griffith.
I DARE you to compare any of the grudges and dividing factors up there to the issues these guys have.

I think Goku/Vegeta was one of the first of the modern Shonen rivalries.

Well, here's some more:
Ippo vs. Miyata
Kenshin vs. Saitou
Van Flyhight vs. Raven
Ryoko vs. Ayeka
Inu-Yasha vs. Seshomaru (Then again, Inu-Yasha vs. Koga also works)
Kagome vs. Kikyo
A-ko vs. B-ko

There's also Yusuke vs Kuwabara of Yu Yu Hakusho (which provided at the very least good comedic moments and a general actual purpose was revealed for it in the Sensui Arc) and Ash Vs Gary of Pokemon (which was finally resolved in the end of the Master Quest series). Out of the ones listed here though I'd say Goku vs Vegeta cause tha'ts the most fun to imitate... uh I mean had some well made battles and a very satisfactory ending in the Buu Saga.

Ryoma/Tezuka isn't really a rivalry. In a rivalry, both are trying to upstage the other person, and view each other as equals. Ryoma views Tezuka as someone he wants to surpass him, while Tezuka wants Ryoma to get better and become Seigaku's Pillar of Support. The relationship is like Zoro/Mihawk, for example. Or Ikkaku/Kenpachi in Bleach.

The best example of a rivalry in Prince of Tennis is Tezuka/Atobe. With Momoshiro/Kaidoh and Momoshiro/Oshitari being other notable rivalries.

From the list, Amuro/Char is the top rivalry. But I wouldn't even consider that the Best UC Gundam rivalry. Kamille/Jerid was way more high stakes, and those two both had real reasons to be pissed off at each other.

Goku and Vegeta is also extremely notable. One of the defining rivalries of all time.

Some other notable rivalries:

Ippo/Miyata(Hajime no Ippo): Lots of great emotion, especially how the rivalry is carried out very differently.

Luffy/Smoker: Great interaction between them. Especially with Smoker being the one guy Luffy has outright admitted he can't beat and turned tail.

Van/Raven(Zoids CC): Great rivalry, especially how it was different with Raven always getting the better of Van, except for a couple of times. And it had a great resolution with the two of them teaming up to kick Hiltz ass.

Domon Kasshu/Master Asia: Another great rivalry that really worked, especially with them being two of the most interesting Gundam characters ever.

God, I misssed a bunch. This is what happens when you make a poll late in the night...

Yeah, I could tell the second I posted the poll that Echizen/Tezuka was a poor choice. How'd I forget Kaidô/Momo??

Oh man, Raven v. Van!! I completely forgot about that one.

I noticed people actually voted for Naruto v. Sasuke. I don't know exactly how they're rivalry is as legendary as some of the others I posted, but whatever, I suppose...

Ditto. Worked as a friendly rialry, but when Sasuke turned evil it just fell flat. Thank goodness we don't have cursed seals and sharingans in the real world...emo kids just get MySpace pages.

Parn and Ashram in Lodoss War is worth mentioning.

I'd like to add Kazuma/Ryuho.

I second and third it. Having the final episode of s-cry-ed dedicated solely to them finishing their rivalry was friggin genius.

Lack of Ranma/Ryoga makes this thread cry.

Have to go with the Char and Amuro rivalry. It became much more complex and deep. It's probably the only rivalry that comes to epic proportions.

Out of pure instinct I went for Goku v. Vegeta, and then suddenly I did an about face and went "NO! NO DAMMIT CHAR VS. AMURO!"

It was too late for me.

If we're listing favourite/classic rivalries, I'd go with the already mentioned Goku and Vegeta along with Domon and Chibodee.

I wish SEED had decent rivalries. All it really has is "I hate you because I was told to. I will kill you!!...Now I've defected, BBFF!!"

LOL. Maybe next time...

Seriously, I just don't know how people could deny them their just desserts. They're like the olderst bloody rivalry in all of Animé...LOL!!

Rau and Mu qualify, lots of animosity between those two. If we take the last quarter into account Kira & Rau count too, they had issues ever since that little shootout/argument at that abandoned lab.

Eh, it was pretty one sided. Kira never really showed that much care about who Yzak was.

You could say the same about Kamille and Jerrid. You can tell he was getting a little annoyed by Jerrid as the show continued on...

What?

Kamille hated Jerid just as much as Jerid hated Kamille. I mean Jerid only KILLED his Mom and Girlfriend.

That was a good rivalry precisely because both of them hated each others guts, and it was pretty even. They both killed numerous loved ones of the other person.
