I wondering just who is D- Man? Wizard talk about him being the worst Avenger. Did any body know his background?

This is kind of coincidental, because I got a comic today from early in D-Man's career and it summarized its beginning.

D-Man was a sidekick of Captain America. He had super-strength given to him by the Power Broker. Then he became a wrestler. When Captain America came to town looking for the Power Broker, D-Man helped him out and as a result became his sidekick. Through an odd series of complicated events, he got amnesia and began living in the sewers with a large community of homeless people. Later, when he ran into Cap. and his memory returned, he decided to stay with the homeless people who had shown him so much kindness.

You won't find D-Man in any Avengers comic prior to Vol. 3 #1. This is because, around the time of Avengers 300 (when Reed & Sue Richards were Avengers) Captain America talked to D-Man in the Cap. A book and told him that he was an Avenger since they had so few members at the time. But, after that, D-Man never showed up in the Avengers book as a part of the team until the new #1 called all of the past Avengers out of the woodwork. If you didn't read the latest Avengers #1, D-Man was a little shabby looking and stinky from living in the sewer, and Busiek made a few jokes about the character being dirty & stinky. After this, he returned to the sewers again. I don't think that he's that bad of a character and wouldn't mind seeing him again. The only reason Wizard calls him the worst is because of Avengers #1-3. He seems to be a somewhat interesting character from the few issues of Cap A that I have with him, and isn't anywhere near as irritating as, say, Triathlon.
