Uhh Frank Darabont's script was rejected eons ago by all parties, Jeff Nathanson's script is the one that will be filmed.

How does anyone even know that the script was good?

Spielberg liked it. When was the last time he directed a bad script?

Isn't it possible?

Everything Spielberg directs is gold. And I say that not as a blind generalization, but as my personal opinion of everything he does. The fact that Spielberg praised this script and Lucas shot it down really bothers me. Look at their track records!
And yes, I thought War of the Worlds was really good. But I'll gladly discuss that in its own talkback thread.

I'm actually pretty surprised he did this if Speilberg was ecstatic about the script. I would regard Lucas as sort of a wannabe screenwriter/director who could actually recognize good scripts for what they are and say "yeah, that's fantastic!" I mean, he agreed to Star Wars V, didn't he?
Maybe there was a fatal flaw neither of the other two could recognize because they were too close to the material. Maybe he was jealous the script was better than anything he could come up with... This man confuses me. We're all just hoping the current shooting script is just as decent, if not better.

In George Lucas's defense,I once read an outline of Frank Darabont's Indiana Jones script a while back, and it dealt with Indy tracking down UFOs and aliens in the 1950s American Southwest, and it seemed a little underwhelming a premise. It had some fanboy moments (Indy about to get married, and Short Round,Marion Ravenwood, and Willy Scott show up),but it also had some unbelievable moments, like Indy surviving the testing of an atom bomb explosion (by hiding under a bathtub,IIRC).
I just think George just doesn't want to rush into something like this, and wants the best story possible. But what do I know? I'm the rare Star Wars fan who actually liked the prequel movies.

Especialy 1941. Haha!! Seriously, I'm sure he'd like to forget it, but I love that movie and would gladly take it over War of the Worlds, A.I., and Minority Report. :D

If George rejected the script, he obviously had a good reason since no one knows his characters better than himself. Get over it people. Lucas does what he does because he has great ideas thanks to his influences.

At this point, I find Indiana Jones to be more Spielberg's thing than Lucas'. I say screw Lucas and just let Spielberg make whatever film he's excited about. He's the director.
As for the STAR WARS debate, I don't mind the '97 SEs for ANH and ESB, but prefer the '83 original for ROTJ. I don't have a problem with George constantly making changes, but I do have a problem with him refusing to let the originals be preserved the way they should be. Even Spielberg knew to do this when E.T. was released, including the fumbled, politically correct 2002 version and the original, superior 1982 version. Take a hint, Georgie boy.
And that's my two cents.
Ok, I am going to add my ideas.
..I've seen them all. OK. (in the theaters...ok)
...Luca's first Star Wars movie should be restored, and rereleased for historical reasons if any..Why..The movie fans should have acess to the version that "started it all." It is a kind of intellectual honesty..
..I threw my versions out...(a rather inept move I might add)
..By having the various versions to look at, we can contrast and compare whaat changes have been made, and kinda find out the evoution of the film..,Intellectual curiosity if anything..What is Lucas hiding by not releasing the original versions.(unless he threw them out too..not likely)
Now on the scripts.
...If Lucas really did delete someone's work for a whole year, (and this story is true) then it is his (Lucas) intellectual arrogance that is showing..Sad indeed..
...He doesn't have to be that way..Does he?
Second...No director -producer in the business that has done more than a few films, can claim to have "perfection."
Spielberg has made some "bombs." They all have..
..Lucas's record is not perfect..His script approval is questionable..
..Without the great special effects, his scripts in the last triology, well, not up to his earlier sharpness?
..The first Star Wars film, had a great flow, movement, and kinda a "trance"
to it. Some of the other two were (in my opinion) also great..I remember thinking when I saw them, that the last, (Return of the Jedi) lacked something, was too long, or something was not just right. Very hard to put ones finger on it.
...But in looking back.. It was clearly the script was not edited right and the film was too long..That was Lucas's fault..
,,So this laziness, or failure to have a clear vision, and direction of the film,
must (if I am really correct) be Lucas. Who else is there?
..He is imperfect as are all of us, and also arrogant, which most of us are not..I guess he has that right..But, as I think back, honestly about Lucas's work, I do not think that arrogance has served us well (but, I do not think that Lucas cares what his fans think. does he?)...................sun
