'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart' and 'The Colbert Report' team up to bring you
Comedy Central's
INDECISION 2006
MIDTERM MIDTACULAR
Live for one full hour! Starting at 11p / 10c.

So I saw no threads on this and since it's a 'joint' thing between the two shows you can't really put it in one of the single show topics.

If this seems unnecessary, then please lock it.

If this seems unnecessary, then please lock it.No, I think it's great. I've been watching "real" coverage so far, but I am looking forward to this.

It's starting in, like, one minute.

This crowd is so obviously Democrat it's a bit uncomfortable, but Colbert saves it, as usual.

EDIT: Whoops, they're clearly not used to live bleeping.

The Entrance pole segment was pretty funny.

Man, Colbert flipping out at the end was priceless.

That is another reason, why I like Colbert Report more then The Daily Show anymore. Colbert going insane was priceless. xD

I love both shows, but I'm going to have to agree that Colbert's tirade at the very end was absolutely priceless. Probably one of the best moments the show's experienced thus far.

I turned my tv on to watch Boston Legal and the live ABC news broadcast that replaced it reminded me it was Election Day. (I sent my absentee in last week so it completely slipped my mind.) After an hour of watching ABC and CNN's objective coverage, it was a very fun change of pace to watch the Daily Show folks brand the runner-ups with giant LOSER stamps. :anime:

It was a wonderful joint show. When the eagle graphic was delayed after Colbert threw the switch I knew it was going to be a fun half-hour. I'm not going to say Stephen's flip-out was awesome, because everyone else did already.

[EDIT: Political remarks removed by Temple Fugate.]

The exit polling correspondents were at the top of their game, as usual. Which isn't saying much. :p Loved the public's reactions.

Another FANTASTICAWESOMELICIOUS interview with Elanor Holmes-Norton. She needs her own show.

I didn't watch the rerun. Did it get censored?

if you thought this was funny, you should've watched the election coverage over at Fox News.:D You'd think they were drinking domestic wine!!! I was laughing like Sideshow Bob giving his victory speech from "Sideshow Bob Roberts"

the Stewart slip was the nutmeg on the eggnog

I can't wait for Turncoat Colbert in '08. I just know he's going to sellout Dubya. The nature of the Colbert character is to wear the hat of the party in power.

Colbert had a slightly better half hour but the single best moment for me was Jon's impersonation of Leiberman and Dan Rather's reaction to it
...even if I couldn't really understand his mumbling.

I can't wait to see Colbert's reaction to the resignation of SECDEF Don Rumsfeld.

Come on, guys, you know there's a ban on politically charged discussion. Knock it off. Don't use this talkback as an excuse to sneak it in.

Sir Lemming is right. Listen to Sir Lemming. He is your good cop. I be official bad cop. Any more attempts to use this topic to wax political satisfaction/dissatisfaction will simply have the point deleted and you'll earn yourself a warning. True, it's not quite up to the physical abuse that comes with the "bad cop" demeanor, but you can thank the internet and those pesky assault laws for that.

So please, you want to chat politics - go to a forum which doesn't focus on cartoons. We don't want it on this forum particularly. Carry on chatting about these two excellent shows, but leave personal political opinion in the vote box.

I see what you're saying. But, if it's such a problem, why not just make a political board on Toon Zone? Hate to add onto the fire, but if we're watching political shows about political topics, it's kind of hard to avoid, yes?

Hate to add onto the fire, but if we're watching political shows about political topics, it's kind of hard to avoid, yes?Well the TDS and CR threads have been (mostly) free of personal political agendas since they started over a year ago, but we have had an occasional slip. I'm pleasantly surprised to see the restraint used in those threads.

If you want a political board with TZ members, there's this (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=146121). I think a political board hosted by Toon Zone might be putting Tom and Jerry a little too close to the table of expensive china. Heated political debates between specific members might end up leaking out into other boards.

There are ways to discuss the comedy of the shows, and the interviews, without preaching about your own opinions and values. And we've been doing that. Some of the now-deleted stuff in this thread really had nothing to do with the shows whatsoever, other than dealing with similar topics.

I missed it but I'm glad they're reairing it like they do with the shows themselves.

James

Absolutely. In the same way a commentator/interviewer/reviewer can talk about a subject without offering their personal bias. One can objectively talk about the Daily Show and Colbert without having to underline personal opinion on the topics they themselves are talking about.

Politics is - especially in the past 5 years - an ugly thing on message boards. We've tried again and again and it's failed to remain objective and without eventual rudeness and bias. To keep the rule clear and consistent (as well as maintaining it for the reasons above) we keep specific talk on politics off Toon Zone - with some rare past exceptions on Cafe Toon Zone (at the forum mods discretion). But on the Entertainment Board we expect the members to be able to comment on TV without political bias.

It's not as difficult as it sounds.

On with the show. This just aired tonight in the UK, and I've taped it, so I'll probably comment on it later this week.

Pretty good. Colbert's stuff was the best though. I liked the interviews and Dan Rather was awesome.

This crowd is so obviously Democrat it's a bit uncomfortable, but Colbert saves it, as usual.I agree with that 100%.

On another note, I'm looking forward to seeing how both shows evolve and if they are as hard on the Democrats as they've been on the Republicans.

that was Jon doing his best :droopy: impersonation
not the first time he's used it on Lieberman...or so I think. I know I've heard faily recently

Yeah. I'm sort of hoping it tones down Jon Stewart's bitterness and preachiness. As for Colbert, that's a more interesting challenge.

In his defense, from what I have seen, while Stewart may be liberal and like to attack the Republicans, if the Democrats do something stupid, he'll go after them without a moment's hesitation.

Yes, definitely. And now he'll have more of an opportunity to, which I think will bring some much-needed balance back to the show. As you mentioned, he's definitely more toward the Left of things, and it shows.

I think on tonight's Daily Show, Jon was much more critical of the Dems. Not outright bash them like he did with the Republicans, but it's only been one day since they've been in power. Give it time.

Yes, he did. And it reminded me of one of the TDSes before... about a year ago. So I hope to see more of that. (And he proved at the Oscars that he can be quite critical of Democrats and liberals -- I remember that one line that this is the most celebrities you'll ever see in one place without donating money to the Democratic party.) I mean, you can't blame the guy for having an opinion, but with the Republicans in power he really just seemed to be in a bad mood, which made it seem more like a political rally than a comedy show.

Likewise, if Rage Against The Machine were still around, I bet they'd be getting pret-ty annoying right about now. Their politics would probably just be too much to tolerate.

I hope he does a montage of all the times they've said "new direction" so far. The material is ripe for the picking.
