As I said in that stage show DVD thread, I've never been much for stage musicals. However, I had always wanted to see CATS just from hearing so much about it (I'll have to rent the DVD), and Wicked sounds like an interesting concept that I'd enjoy seeing, too.

A friend of mine got to see the Evil Dead musical recently, but he's not back from his trip yet so I don't know what he thought of it, but I would have seen that for sure if I could have gone to New York. (Though I don't like to fly.) And Road House: The Musical would have been interesting. Haha!!

I also wanted to see Beauty and the Beast when Christy Carlson Romano was starring and Chicago during Huey Lewis' run last year (and in San Francisco this past month), mostly just because I'm a fan of both.

I have seen:
Beauty and the Beast: The Musical
Carousel
Phantom of the Opera
Les Miserables
The Lion King
Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella
The Producers
RENT
Hairspray

I would like to see:
Miss Saigon
42nd Street
Mama Mia

Of the ones I've seen, Beauty and the Beast, Carousel, and The Producers are my top three favorites. Beauty and the Beast is ten times better than the movie, which I think is the best Disney animated movie made so far. It's also my very first musical experience and I was in awe of everything I saw.

Carousel is my favorite Rodgers and Hammerstein musical. I first saw the movie version with Shirley Jones and Gordon McRae and I didn't like it too much. But for some reason I saw it again and again, and I liked it more and more after each viewing. Then I saw the stage version and it became my favorite of all of Rodgers and Hammerstein's works that I'm familiar with.

The Producers was just flat out hilarious and entertaining. The version I saw was the LA production starring Jason Alexander and Martin Short, and they were a great duo. I also love the Mel Brooks humor and the old Hollywood movie musical feel the songs had. Too bad the movie version wasn't as good. It's so over the top that it suits the stage much better than on film.

I hope there will be a Newsies stage musical in the future someday.

Forgot about Les Miserables. That was another one I've always been interested in seeing ever since I learned it was one of the inspirations for The Fugitive.

I saw Chicago in 2004. The only other NYC production I've seen is the Radio City Christmas Spectacular with the Rockettes, but I don't think that really counts...

There are dozens of shows that I wouldn't mind seeing.

If you want to include school/independent productions then I'll have to add:

Singin In The Rain (Westchester Dinner Theatre 2003)
Crazy For You (Arlington High School 2006)
Peter Pan (Madison Square Garden 2005)

Tarzan became a musical this past summer. Mary Poppins came on Broadway last month and The Little Mermaid is suppose to be next.

Funny how the first Disney movie "without singing characters" is now a Broadway musical.

And in my personal opinion, it didn't turn out that good. I saw it last Summer. There are much better Disney movies that should have became musicals instead of Tarzan such as the Hunchback Of Notre Dame musical that was only in Berlin. I think they just liked the idea of having Phil Colins involved.

I just made a big list and it didn't post :(

Suffice it to say then that I've seen pretty much every musical that's come to Broadway or stayed on Broadway in the last five or six years, I'm a huge theater geek.

Upcoming shows I'm excited about:
Young Frankenstein
Mary Poppins

I scare myself wanting to see all these movie-based shows which I usually am annoyed by, but those two look fantastic.
