This is the talkback thread for FUNimation Announces New February Titles (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=13257).
Shadow Chronicles might be good, but I've never seen the series so I'll probably catch it if it airs on Toonami, I think I heard it was going to, but then again, I hear a lot o' things...

Rumbling Hearts for me. Volume 2 should have some gut-wrenching episodes on it.
Kodocha also, but I haven't bought anything past volume 6 yet.

I don't think they mentioned Shadow Chronicles airing on Toonami.

I think there have been rumors to that extent but nothing solid.
Meanwhile, I'll definitely get the Galaxy Railways set, if only because watching Galaxy Express 999 was one of my first memories.

well if Toonami does are the Shadow Chronicles movie, they'll have to air "New Generation" so people will kinda know whats up (and the only eps ever to air from that part was in .... "Giant Robot Week")
Well nothing for me, already own the individual volumes for Galaxy Railways so ....

I really hope that The Galaxy Railways Complete Collection does reasonably well at retail, if only to possibly garner more interest in the currently-broadcasting sequel in Japan, and Leiji Matsumoto-based anime in general.

Eventually I'll collect Kodocha but not now. So February will not see me buying any FUNi titles.

I personally cannot wait for Robotech Shadow Chronicles, it has the potential to be one of 2007's best releases in my view.
I agree with Jon about Galaxy Railways too, although I collected the series as it was released so I won't be going for the collection. I'm hopeful Funi will pick up the second season after it finally begins and gets through its run.

Actually Shadow Chronicles, while working with longtime fans in mind, was made with knowledge that potentially new fans with no prior knowledge would watch (with one tweak early on that will cause no end of migraines for uber continuation purists), as the first act is essentially episodes 84 and 85 from the Expeditionary Force's POV.
Reviews have so far been favorable on rt.com, with fans telling what they've liked, what they didn't, what needs to be worked on, etc.
I've seen it ;)
Personally I'm also very interested about soundtrack release details.

FUNimation is the distributor and Harmony Gold are the original R1 licensors for this movie, right?

Licensor nothing, it's a production that exists solely at the behest of Harmony Gold. It's made for a US/Western audience only.

What? How could it be made for western audiences only? I thought it was shown in japan as New Generation Mospeada.

No. Robotech was made for American audiences. Therefore, it makes sense to have the movie target American audiences since they won't be familiar with Macross.

Yeah, but this isn't a Robotech film that's actually a repurposed Mospeada or Macross film, it's a Robotech original being made from scratch in association with a Japanese studio. Basically, this is original content exclusively created for the Robotech universe and only the Robotech universe.
In fact, even though there is newer Macross material that could be bent into new Robotech material, it'll probably never happen. However, it also look like we'll never get it uncut either (:( poor Macross Zero.)

Dark, Shadow Chronicles is a US Harmony Gold production, made first and foremost for Robotech and its fans. Meaning that it was created to fit within the Robotech universe and its history, not Mospeada's. While Mospeada shares the same visuals with its Robotech counterpart their background stories are different.
Because of this, if Mospeada fans were to watch Shadow Chronicles, while they would recognize most of the equipment, vehicles, and some of the characters (Scott/Stick and Ariel/Aisha), they would be at a loss at everything else, such as the SDF-3, Rick Hunter, uniforms, and Robotech's use of protoculture, which does not exist in Mospeada. I realize and understand this because I've seen Shadow Chronicles.
It's been asked whether or not HG intends to market this in Japan as a Mospeada sequel, and while they would like to(and that would be irony), there's a bit too much difference from Mospeada as I described above. Also, a while back a poster several months ago on macrossworld who's in Japan asked Tatsunoko about Shadow Chronicles and got an answer that there is no interest in it to market it as Mospeada sequel, and from the way it sounds it seems that while we know that Mospeada had popularity in Japan, we seemingly overstate that popularity. HG has also mentioned that they wouldn't mind trying to market it as Robotech in Japan either.
That's not to say that the Mospeada fans in Japan aren't interested, as they are. I've managed to find a Japanese weblogger who's a big fan of Mospeada and is following Shadow Chronicles closely(he's bought nearly every Mospeada related Robotech item that's hit the shelves in the past few years, even the comics!).

No, there will be no more Macross material shoved into Robotech(though IIRC Shoji Kawamori at an AX jokingly said that he wouldn't mind if it hit US shores as Robotech Zero, so that fans could see it).
Besides, Macross Zero contradicts From the Stars, a Robotech comic series that takes place, timewise, several years before Macross Zero(and in a funny twist, is somewhat truer to the original Macross world in the use of uniforms and fighters, such as the use of Dragon II fighters that were established in the original Macross), and is intended to be Robotech canon.
As for seeing Macross Zero on US shores, that depends when the lawsuits in Japan between Big West and Tatsunoko end, as HG has also mentioned that they want to see it released here too.
