Entertainment Weekly deemed Spider-Man the most anticipated new movie for 2002, and they give some great reasons why. Here's the rundown:

WHY WE CAN'T WAIT Because everybody needs a hero right now. It just so happens that this hero's stomping ground is the city that needs a hero the most -- modern day New York. Also, of all the superheroes, Spider-Man was always a little more human than the rest. He didn't fly; he swung. He wasn't ripped; he was toned. Even when it came to the ladies, he struggled. No wonder it's so easy to relate to him.

SOURCE MATERIAL ''Spider-Man,'' ''The Amazing Spider-Man,'' ''The Spectacular Spider-Man,'' ''Web of Spider-Man,'' and many other Marvel Comics spin-offs

THE BAD GUY Preproduction rumors focused on Dr. Octopus and Samuel L. Jackson's name seemed to surface quite a bit. But in the end Willem Dafoe seems a natural as the pumpklin-hurling, wind-surfing Green Goblin. And keep an eye open for a cameo by Eddie Brock, better known to comic fans as Venom.

BURNING QUESTION In that tight outfit, does Spidey have to wear a thong to keep his panty line from showing?

IN THEIR WORDS On Tobey Maguire's transformation to superhero strength: ''That's Tobey, baby. He got BUFF,'' insists producer Laura Ziskin. ''Sometimes it will be CGI -- though hopefully, you won't know when.''

COME FOR Mary Jane

STAY FOR Spidey's duel with Randy ''Macho Man'' Savage

I hope that they do get the CGI right. It sure looked fake on the trailers. The motions were right on, but his look was wrong. He stood out too much. Still, I am really looking forward to this movie.

That Mary Jane kiss was HOT!

I think what made the cgi so obvious was it's coloring. CGI Spidey looked lacking in hues compared to the backgrounds.

My ONLY complaint about the Spider-Man movie so far, is that the Green Goblin has been turned into Robo-Green Goblin. Otherwise, I can't wait to see this movie! May is going to be a good month for moviegoers.

Honestly, this whole Spider-Man movie thing is still just a REALLY GOOD dream right now! I've been waiting for this since my brother first gave me a Spidey-comic, back when I was learning to read(Mom taught me how to read a book about a giant red dog, then I'd go to my room, & my brother would teach me how to read comics..hehe!).

If only there was a superhero we could relate to who WASN'T a mutate enhanced by a radioactive spider that gave him super powers. But a hero who's just a guy fighting crime in a cape and cowl? That could never happen.

That's probably the greatest story I've ever heard. :wakko:

Although I'm in a minority here, because the movie I am most looking forward to is MIB2. I'm not really primed about any of those other ones in the article.

Not surprised. :)

I'd say the timing couldn't be better for this kind of movie. It's exactly what the public needs.
