I couldn't be more thrilled that this has happened. why? because it reminded just how much, and why, I love te animated Batman cartoons. More to the point, why I love BTAS so much more than TNBA. TNBA is great, I love it, but there is something missing, at least for me, which BTAS has which makes it so awesome. Maybe it's the music, more, I think it's the animation. The older style animation in BTAS is really good, eye catching, but so is TNBA. Perhaps I like it because it gives the show a darker, more real look to it. With tonights ep, Blind as a Bat, I was struck first by Batman's voice. Maybe it's just me, but Kevin Conroy's voice acting just seemed so different compared to TNBA, really awesome, dark, with more growl to it. Am I the only one that feel this way? Oh, and one more thing, anyone voted for Bats or Supes yet at toonami.com?!

He also talked a bit more--to Alfred, to Commissioner Gordon, to everybody--and he had a wonderful sardonic sense of humor (Batman when he saw that his "eyes" were damaged: "Terrific"). I also liked that it was just him--no Robin, no Batgirl, no anybody. It heightened the suspense as he faces his villains one-on-one.
Also, the Superman episodes that they've been playing are great. You can tell that the creative team hit their stride around the time that they did Bizarro's World and Solar Power. The animation was well-drawn and fluid, the characters had depth, and you could actually feel Superman's plight. Sadly, the series seemed to suffer a little after Turpin died--when characterization took a back seat to fight scenes and Darkseid became the number one priority (he got four of the remaining episodes of the last season).

After watching "Blind as a Bat" tonight, I forgot how much I love that show!!! It's true, Conroy seemed a lot darker and brooding than TNBA. And, yes, I've cast my vote for good ol' Bats.

Penguin was great in Blind As A Bat. Why the writers didn't use him as effectively in other episodes is lost on me (I mean couldn't they have used someone else for I got Batman In My Basement?)
