I was just curious about one thing: How many of you have played a musical instrument? In school, professionally, or just a hobby, it doesn't matter. Please state what you play(ed) if any of this applies to you! I play Tenor Sax in my school Jazz Band, and Bari (bariTONE, if you want to be picky) Sax and Bassoon in the school Symphonic band. I hate doubling instruments :(.

I used to play flute in the school band until I developed breathing problems. So I've taken up playing the piano again, but I'm not very good at it. I've also tried the tinwhistle, but could never get a good enough book to teach myself. :(

I used to play violin when I was tiny for my elementary school. Then I played piano for a couple years. Then nothing for a little while. Then I started playing the guitar and have done so for 4 or 5 years. There's a bunch of other instruments I'd like to learn to play though.

I played the violin for seven years... made it as high as consert master my ninth grade year, then lost the will to play and fell back in the ranks of second violin land... ::sigh::

Played the piano for 13 years. People always ask me "Are you one of those Asian kids that were forced to by their parents and now hate it with a passion?" To which I enthusiastically replied "Yes!"

I stopped last year, but basically because I ran through all the grades and there was no where else to go but the last grade, which is the equivalent of "pianist's (*giggle*) college". Even my mom didn't want me to take that.

But I did win some scholarships (very small ones) and a trophy once in some competitions before.

Also played the flute in middle school. Had a solo at Paramount's Wonderland! They gave me a mic and everything. *beams*

Dabble in the recorder (Who CAN'T play the recorder?) and the bass guitar.

--harmonica player. In the words of Daria Morgendorffer in "The Big House" (you'll note in the next few days how hard Is It College Yet? hit me, I'm afraid!), "These tired bones may be locked behind prison walls...but when I play this rusty old harp, my soul flies, free as a bird."

I used to play tenor/alto/bari sax, but then I got bored (as well as a bad teacher) and gave up. Now I can play human beatbox. (Pumping techno beat)

Ahh, the Recorder. The "Poor Man's Flute". My sister was told to buy one for Band in 5th grade, and she never used it. At all.

I play Bass Guitar, and a little bit of saxophone, and piano.

I've also played the recorder when I was like in 5th grade. :p
I'm not that great at drums, and guitar. I'm going to try to learn guitar.

I play violin, so far. No doubt I'm gonna fail it. (Yup, my teacher can find ways of making me fail violin. So far, I have an "F" in the first note on the last string. ("F"! Get it?! Get it?! Y'see, it's the FIRST note, on the LAST string, and the open string is an E, and......aw, nuts. :wakko: )

I play a bit of piano; not fancy schmancy piano, but some I independantly learned while on the violin.

I agree: Who CAN'T play the recorder? :p And my mother's teaching me guitar.

Well, that's it. Does chess count? (I bet I could beat ANYONE here at chess!! :p )

Which skills can you do? Myself, I have mastered 3 of the 4 elements by rahzel (earth, fire, and wind, can't do water yet) and the ever so cool "talking while beatboxing..."

And let's all agree that Justin from nsync CANNOT box...

"if your mother only knew..."

Yeah, those (Gibson Melodymaker and Washburn acoustic) and:
the extremely popular recorder (as said before, who didn't?)
the trumpet (serious for the first 4, on and off for the last 2; I'm still very good, though lazy)
and the piano (on and off for the last, oh, 8 years [mostly off]).

yay! a music topic!!! lol, I'm a certified and proud Bando. Anyhoo, I've played clarinet for going on 7 years, piano for 8, and alto sax for 1 year. I play sax for jazz, and clarinet if I'm lucky and our director picks a song that has clarinet in it, which usually means a solor, wooo! I have a guitar, but have yet to find the time to actually learn how to play it. i tried trumpet, but failed miserably, lol.

I'd LIKE to play piano, but 1) I suck, 2) my hands don't want to listen to me and coordinate themselves and 3) I can't read notes that well yet.

Does your vocal cords count as an instrument? :D

I was NEVER forced to play the recorder!! And it appears that I'm one of the few bandos who never had to (lucky me).

I used to play the violin, but as i got older, i kinda just grew out of it, or something. I can also play the piano a little.

My mom made me take piano lessons as a kid. I was OK, but not great at
it. As I grew up, I just lost interest in it--I guess because I had to work so hard at it just to be mediocre! I can still sort of pick through the notes, but
that's about it!
I took guitar in jr. high, and I can still play it a little. My "playing" consists
mainly of just strumming chords or playing a few notes--Now if I could just teach myself how to combine the two!
My sister has the real musical talent in the family, though. She plays the
pipe organ!

Oh--and I, too have a recorder....but I'm not sure where it came from!

I used to play the viola. (That's like a violin, only slightly bigger and with different strings.) Anyway, I played that in the school orchestra, then later with a church ensemble, before I finally stopped practicing altogether. I haven't picked up the thing for months. :(

Now all I do is diddle around with this electric keyboard we have (or "synthesizers," as they used to be called, I think). No formal piano training, though.
