If you're a fan of Kevin Smith movies, I'd highly recommend getting a DVD player. There is so much bonus material on each of the discs. The commentaries are great too. View Askew puts out great discs.

That's pretty standard. It all has to do with rental pricing, where the VHS tapes come out for rental only at first then go to sell thru approximately six months later. There is talk of inflicting this evil scheme of rental pricing on DVDs, but Blockbuster is having a hard time getting it done. (and it's all Blockbuster who is responsible for this, they are the ones who make money off of it, not the mom and pop video stores, and the movie companies can rake more money out of consumers with this too).

Yeah, the website and newsaskew.com is good for information and cut scene scripts as well. Eventually, DVDs will completely replace tapes, so might as well hop on board now. The prices went down a lot after the economy went south. If you going to go for one, try for...oh crap...whatchamacallit....multi-regional player. I got a Region 4 play in the computer and all I can get out here is Region 1 DVDs. Major pain in the keister.
OT: I heard this past week that Jason Mewes is on the run from the cops. Turns out he violated his parole from a 1999 heroin conviction and had moved out of state. He's a fugitive in Jersey....holy cow...Completely unrelated, but can anyone tell me of any news updates? Thanks.
Peace and Rock 'n' Roll

Don't worry, buy a used copy from Blockbuster. It's not so bad, and if it doesn't work you can return it.
The only problem is getting those damn stickers off, but you can if you're careful and peel real slowly...

You can buy it used before it's even actually out on video? Cool, thanks...and Jason's on the run from the cops?!?! Wow, I'm as obsessive about all things askew and I never knew that...

Yeah. I worked for Blockbuster for a while, and as they reduce the shelf space for certain titles they put more and more out for sale. It takes about a month or two for them to start on a particular title.
It's funny--stuff would come out for sale on VHS and I'd think, "It isn't out yet? I've been selling it for five weeks now!"

Seeing that it is bad for the consumer and good for the mega-corporation, it will probably happen.

According to Kevin Smith himself, the VHS is coming out the same day as the DVD:

I think they are already gearing up for it, the movie companies, that is. A rental priced DVD will be bare bones then you will get the special edition loaded with bonus features six months later. That is already happening quite a bit in DVD. I think they are getting the consumers weaned away from getting their deluxe editions right away so it won't seem like such a shock when rental pricing takes over DVD. Also, another thing is that the movie companies are now saying bonus features are too expensive and blah blah blah. I just wonder if that's not yet another thing they will use later on to say, "Well, if we go to rental pricing this will offset our extra costs for the bonus features."
I put up an article about rental pricing on the DVD Discussion board (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?postid=105313#post105313) that gets into the subject in more detail and how this has been derailed in other countries. The best part of that article is that WB did get sued for rental pricing and the video stores won, keeping rental pricing out of Australia. I hope the US is just as successful.
