Hopefully, this topic isn't forbidden. Mods, do your thing if it is.

I'm assuming a lot of these are anime and Toku. Didn't realise Japanese Copyright applies to Youtube as well.

Copyright generally applies internationally as most countries respect each others copyright laws to an extent. Basically, if something is protected by copyright in Japan or the U.S., you don't have a right to do what you want with it just because you live in the other country.

Yeah, they were completely with rights to request that stuff be pulled, especially since Japanese users are not only not blocked from the site, they are allowed to contribute, resulting in a lot of bootleg content turning up and being watched by a Japanese audience.
You can't keep this kind of material in a centralized location and not expect some sort of legal reprocussion. It's what killed Napster, and it'll kill Youtube.
At least Chad and Steve got away with a billion and a half before then. :)

Well as long as nobody touches Yu-Gi-Oh! TAS and Angry Nintendo Nerd, then You Tube can still go on. Then again ANN has his own site with other videos and the guy who does Yu-Gi-Oh! TAS could make up his own page. Yep You Tube is doomed to horrible AMV's, Video Blogs, and badly directed movies.
Google's executive staff is going to wake up one day and wonder why no one's visiting the site they paid $1.5 billion for anymore, and everyone will have the same answer.
Copyrighted material. It's illegal, it's wrong, but it's also the only reason 9/10ths of people actually go there.

Don't they pull copyrighted videos all the time? And don't people just put up more?

Just as long as they don't take off the Monster Rancher episodes on there, I could care less what YouTube deletes.

You forget how big Google is now. They have enough money to legally obtain videos to show.

I wouldn't want them to take off some of the Japenese commercials. It's nice having Japenese commercials on there, such as that Schwartzenegger pizza commercial or those Jack Bauer energy drink commercials.

To rephrase an old chestnut: loose lips sink ships. You're only making the problem worse by making it more obvious.

Yeah, I think I'm closing this before anymore people chime in with the copyrighted content they'd like to see still illegally available.
