99 Luft Balloons is cool, but I prefer the English version. It's a cool song that rarely gets air play these days except for a handful of radio stations. I understand the singer who made it is still doing well in Germany. Of course, so is David Hasselhoff!

There's a US version by the punk band Goldfinger (great band and song, btw) that was played on the game Gran Tourismo 2.

Yup! The punk version is great. The song, also on Grans Turismo 3 (becuase I played that last night - and the song was in the credits) and it just kicks booty. Very wicked song.

Uhm? In what year are you living in? Hasselhoff was doing well when Knight Rider was successful and that was sometime in the eighties. Nena (the woman who performed 99 red ballons) released a new album but as far as I know it's not doing well. She's doing commercials for chocolate and other stuff now.

In Germany Britney Spears is doing extremely well (just like in the rest of Europe). Britney and Pink were here last week for a promo tour, and I think Shakira will be here this week too.

Other successful acts in Germany are: No Angels (Popstars 1), Bro'Sis (Popstars 2), No doubt, Crazytown, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit ect...

Umm, what post were you reading? :D

Hasselhoff was doing well when Knight Rider was successful and that was sometime in the eighties.

I was talking about him in reference to popular people in GERMANY, and he's doing well in Germany. He's sold A LOT of records and CDs over there over the years, including recently.

although it's been a while since I was in europe (5 months) I can't say what's going on now or if Hasselhof has made a comeback - but when I was there he was never heard of unless they made reruns of KnightRider and Babewatch....

BWDK might know a tad more since he kinda lived in Germany...

That might be a good source! I only know what I know from VH1, I'm afraid. That's where I learned of Hasselhoff's success in Germany. I suppose one could look at amazon.com's German site and see how well his CDs are selling.

Well, you know what Norm Macdonald says. "Germans love David Hasselhoff."

I do have 99 Luft Balloons on my hard drive and it's fun to listen to every now and then. But there's alot of European music I like better.

For instance, Massive Attack, Portishead, Daft Punk and that whole Belgium New Beat thing.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but if you like Daft Punk you should check out Massive Attack. Anything off Protection or Blue Lines is awesome.

I like "99 Red Balloons" too. And I'm also a big fan of Massive Attack and Portishead. In fact, I'm listening to Portishead right now. If you're a fan too, see if you can get a copy of their album "Glory Times." It's a two disc set that consists only of various "remixes" of two of their songs, "Glory Box" and "Sour Times." But they're not really remixes, they're like totally new songs. "Glory Box (Mudflap Mix)" is a grunge song, and it reminds me of something Nirvana would've done. And "Airbus Reconstruction" is a remake of "Sour Times" in which Beth sings the chorus accompanied by a group of men who are screaming along with her.
And if you like Portishead, I recommend the band Goldfrapp. :0)
