Just as Tim Burton's classic tale The Nightmare Before Christmas returns to theaters this weekend in 3D, his most recent stop-motion movie, the Oscar-nominated Corpse Bride, makes its US television debut this Thursday at 8 PM EST on ABC Family.
Yeah, I'm shocked too.

Out where I am, ABC Family is a basic cable channel.
I plan on watching it. It'll be the first time I've ever seen the flick. Anyone know if it's as good as Nightmare Before Christmas?

Ever since I saw a clip of this being touted as part of the network's "13 Days of Halloween", I was shocked and confused.
Shouldn't this be airing on HBO, then, after a few years, ABC Family?

Strange. This movie only came out a year ago.

It was on HBO a few months ago, IIRC. Though, I do agree that it does seem way WAY too soon to be on basic cable. It shouldn't be there for another year and a half at least.
Ah, well. I'm not complaining, it'll be nice to see it again.

It was on HBO a few months ago, IIRC.No it wasn't. It's been on PPV/Movies On Demand since about mid-May/early June and just got off the end of August. Hasn't been on any cable network in the US, and Thursday marks the US Television premiere of the Corpse Bride.
Now Wallace and Gromitt and the Curse of the Wererabbit's been on HBO over the last couple of months.
I'm just curious, um, if Warner Bros. wanted to premiere Corpse Bride on basic cable, why go to ABC Family rather than keep it in the family and air it on a channel that supposed to be a network dedicated to cartoons.
Oh yeah, that's right. Time Warner hates the Turner networks and Cartoon Network doesn't like cartoons.

Well, there is not much CN can do if WB doesn't want them to air it. We know WB doesn't like the Turner networks and Time Warner doesn't believe in synergy. I mean, this is the same company that charged CN a fee everytime CN played a post-48 LT.

I'll definitely be watching this during my college whatevers.

Of course it's not. But if you like TNBC you should probably like this as well. There are tons of differences, but it's still a gothic Tim Burton stop-motion movie and therefore it's hard for it to really go wrong.
Just to clarify, it's not really a musical, although it has four songs in it. It's also a much smaller story with a much smaller scope.
I thought it was kinda strange that it's going to air on ABC Family so soon(I figured it'd be at least another year)....If I'm home on Thursday,I'll probably watch it(even though I own the DVD)....I like the songs in "Nightmare" more, but love the storyline for "Corpse Bride" ...

Unfortunately I'll most likely be away from a TV during that time; I'll be traveling and, unless we get to the hotel in the early evening, I'll miss it.

Hopefully I'll remember to tune it to watch it because I loved it the first time I saw it. It wasn't as good as TNBC but it was pretty good in its own right.

Certainly is unexpected... Must have been some kind of deal that went down for this to happen and wonder what else it might entail.

I'd watch it, but the commercial breaks would break me out of the movie, this is why I can't watch movies that air on television much anymore.

Rare but does happen. Fox got the rights for Jurasic Park 2 and Star Wars episode 1 and 2 before any basic cable provider. Of course before a Movie channel? That is new.
