So yeah im trying to find the name of this anime, that I used to watch when I was working in the East coast about 2-3 years ago. It was on Adult Swim. From what I remember it was an older anime(I say like early 80's) the guy would walk around some desert beating up guys that kidnapped his wife/girlfriend. The guy had a blue outfit with like bandages on both hands, and like I said he looked like Bruce Lee/Rambo(no not the Chuck Norris show, what ever its called). When he would fight the baddies he used this type of martial arts, that would kill the baddies in some weird way, by either blowing there heads up or some gruesome way (the screen turned red and you could see the baddies in black outline) and then it would show the move's name in what appears to be Japanese characters. Trying to see if I can find the name of this series, maybe they have a DVD on it :D.
Thanks in advance!

I may be wrong, but perhaps it's Fist of the North Star? I haven't seen it myself, but the bit that I've heard of it sounds a lot like what you're describing. Though, to my memory, it was never on AS.

Yeah, he's definitely referring to Fist of the North Star, however it aired on Encore Action, not Adult Swim.

Oh yeah!! When I posted this it was bugging me and bugging me so much that I could not sleep, so around 4am I was trying to think of the name, then I said it had to do with a fist I remember that much, Fist of Legend? nope that’s a Jet Li movie, Fist fist fist....... Then I remember there was a star in the name too. Fist Star? Nope that’s not it. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks! Fist of the North Star!! woke up and did a goolge search and sure enough there it was lol. Then was about edit my post on here, but you beat me to it! In either case thanks for the help, that was bugging me for a few months already (on and off). Now off to look for the DVD's!
Thanks!
P.s Since it was not a AS show maybe you guys have an Encore channel (I could of sworn it was AS)? If it needs to be moved please do so, I don’t know how lol.

Since the thread has served its purpose, I don't think it needs to be moved, but I'm not a mod.

Hokuto no Ken/Fist of The North Star aired on the Action Chanel for Animidnights. As for the DVDs... I hate Manga for what they've basically done wtih HNK. They got the rights to the first 41 episodes [if I remember correctly] years ago, and even though the series is still somewhat popular [in the US] they haven't advanced on getting the rights for the rest of the show... It has a pretty solid dub, too. There is also Shin Hokuto no Ken/New Fist of The North Star which was a terrible OVA series that I highly suggest you avoid. It was licensed by ADV and can be found fairly easily. Finally, there's the movie... If you REALLY like the show, then I suggest taking a look. It's pretty bad, but anyone who likes the series should at least view it. You will be confused by some parts, but it's got some cool action scenes.

Why do you think the OVA is so much worse than the series?

Why do you think the OVA is so much worse than the series?
Let's see:
- no Akira Kamiya
- Seiji was able to fight with Ken pretty well, which doesn't fit considering how many powerful foes Kenshiro has beaten
- bad CG effects
- Gackt...
- weak story
- boring at times, which shouldn't happen in an HNK OVA
I could go on about how bad it is. I just felt like they totally could've made something much better with a better story. If that had been the case, some of the other issues would have been less apparent. Plus none of the characters are memorable at all. I haven't read Jubaku no Machi so I can't comment on how well they turned it into an anime, but generally the manga ends up being better in these situations anyways [which is the case with the main HNK series].

Fist of the North Star was one of the big five anime OVA for me back in the 90's when I started watching them religiously on a little independant channel in Chicago. If you include Sci-fi channel on Saturday's the list would be at least 10 :). But if you see it, then I'd suggest buying it. I was wondering what had happened to the original series that Encore was airing. Too bad the company didn't secure the rights to the end, as the movie finally made some sense after watching the first half of the series.
1. Fist of the North Star
2. Vampire Hunter D
3. Burning Night (Zillion movie)
4. 8 Man After
5. Dirty Pair
