Ok, I know Hawkgirl's not in here, but I spent most of my weekend working on just these five JLAers... Would this be considered copyright infrigment if I put it on Ebay? I mean, I've already got a local buyer interested in the original, but I'd like to test the waters in the market, you know..

Yes it would. I got nailed for it quickly with two sketches of DC characters.

I used to draw comic strips for a comic book store newsletter, and the owner had me put a copyright for whatever character I was using on the picture. So if you added (c)2002 DC Comics, I doubt anybody would give you any static. Not that I am a legal expert! I am just speaking from personal experience and things I had to do to cover my own butt.

I dunno. I've looked for sketches on eBay before, and found a number of them by people who I don't recognize as pros. Also, lotsa people sell custom figures there.

All I can tell you is what happened to me. Here's the email I received:

We regret to inform you that your listing:

1042143650 Harley Quinn Original Art

has been ended at the request of DC Comics, a member of eBay's Verified Rights Owner (VeRO) Program, because they filed a sworn statement that it offers a product or contains material which violates their copyright, trademark or other rights. In the interest of protecting all eBay users, we end such listings to avoid any association with potentially infringing or unlawful items.

We understand that sometimes mistakes can be made. If you feel your listing was ended in error, please read the VeRO Program Member’s About Me Page. To help you find their About Me page, we have compiled a list of About Me pages located at:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/community/vero-aboutme.html

If you are unable to find the appropriate About Me page, or if their About Me page does not answer your questions, please contact the VeRO Program Member directly by emailing them at anti-piracy@warnerbros.com.

Of course, eBay is available to answer questions, but since only the rights owner understands their products and policies, we encourage you to contact them first. If we agree a mistake has been made or the VeRO Program Member notifies us, we will allow you to relist the item.

We also understand that even if your item is infringing, you may have been unaware of that fact, and may have listed the item with the best of intentions. Unfortunately, even if this is so, you still could face potential liability, so ending the listing is still necessary.

Please review our Prohibited, Questionable & Infringing Items at:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/community/png-items.html

and Why Was My Auction Ended Early By eBay? at:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/community/png-endauction.html

to learn more. All Bidders have been notified and any associated fees have been credited to your account.

**Keep in mind that listing of prohibited, questionable or infringing items, or the re-listing of ended items without the approval of eBay, can result in your suspension from eBay.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Kinda like selling bootleg CDs or bootleg CDRs on ebay. There is no way Ebay can monitor each and every item. Likely, somebody reported that person. I reported somebody selling bootlegs because he was uncooperative when I wanted a replacement for a defective DVD. But that's not my advicee, I'd just stay away from it rather than hope that somebody doesn't see your work and get mad at you.

I guess my comic strip was different cuz I did it for free. No money was paid to me for my work.
