View Full Version : Game Stop and EB fed up with Promo Videos?

Across the country I've heard reports about those garbage promo videos being put aside for custom made videos by employees.

For those who don't know what these are, they were played inside each EB and Game Stop and were funded by G4TV. They contain garbage one time hosts you never see in the next video, horrible interviews, stupid commercials, concert dates for stuff gamers couldn't care less about, and snowboarding videos with music that never fits the action. Game Stop had their own version of promo trailers, but they slowly have been turning into the EB videos over the past year.

Just today I walked into my local EB for the new Zatch Bell game and they had someone they knew just make a custom DVD chock full of GameTrailers.com videos and no commercials whatsoever. The guy who did it for them has made copies for every store in the area. Other people have said that he is not the first to do so and it's happening across the country without G4 being told to stop.

To be honest I'm glad people have finally noticed this garbage I've seen for over 5 years now. Every time I go into the store I'd hear some of the most annoying crap spewed out of the hosts mouths and make up the most lame ass comments towards games that they'll never be back next time around to review. Plus the whole Snowboarding to music that doesn't match was really the most pointless thing they ever did.

Do you think this is a great move on behalf of the employees at EB and Game Stop doing something better for the gaming community? Do you wish to see GameTrailers.com in the near future support Game Stop and EB with funding to show off their videos?

Well, Hot Diggity Dog! I hope that spreads as well, because I know a certain EB Games that still has that "EBTV" crud. I hate walkin' in there and getting bombarded with trailers for teen movies nobody cares about. They promoted the heck out of "The Covenant," they even had a mini-quiz:

"What is the secret power of The Covenant? Is it A, the power to stop time, B, the power to create fire, C, the power to read minds, or D, the power to do anything? *five-second wait* The answer is D! The power to do anything." .....What a lame quiz.

I remember once, at my local Gamestop, the second season of B:TAS was playing on the TV. Apperenly, someone had traded it in, and the employees decided to watch it.

Does that count?

I work next to an EB and I personally make these videos for them. Gametrailers.com is the best place to get the trailers, since thier HD videos are about 480p(full DVD quality). Righ now, i'm just about done putting together a disc with trailers from X06 and the Tokyo Game show. I think if I use a Dual-Layer Disc I'll be able to fit 3-5 hours without the compression making it look tooo crappy. My buddies over at EB prefer my discs over the EBTV crap they normally play. And I think so do customers: they are always asking 'What game is that", so I guess it pumps them up

I hope the same thing happens to Suncoast. Those promo videos they sometimes play with Jon Henson are lame. It's much better when they just play some random movie in its entirety. For some reason that brings me into the movie atmosphere better than the promo videos, which seem to repeat every ten minutes.

I hate those videos more than any of you can possibly imagine. Working at Gamestop means I have to listen to them all day and it is very annoying, especially with the last two or three of them promoting that stupid Covenant movie.

Im going to make a gametrailers.com DVD now. I never thought about that until now, good idea guys.

When I used to work for Gamestop, I did that, I'd bring in a DVD and play it instead of watching those garbage videos that they want us to play. I'd also replace the games in the systems with more interesting games, rather than the cruddy sports games that always seem to be in the systems. I had Rez going in the PS2, Super Smash going in the GC and Halo in the Xbox. People liked it when I worked.

We do that with the consoles. We've had Smackdown! vs. RAW 2006 in our PS2 for a few months now. The 360 though we have to leave the kiosk disc in otherwise Microsoft gets angry.

Sadly, my GS and EB still have those crappy promos on their TVs, but at GameCrazy they have people bring in custom made DVDs from GTs and it has its effect on the customers.

"How dare you have Dead Rising in the 360 instead of that crappy demo disk we gave you at the birth of the console!"

I used to do stuff like this when I worked at Hastings (for those who don't have one in their area, imagine a Bookman's that also has new stuff and a rental section). I never made custom DVDs (not having a DVD burner at the time), but I was constantly swapping out the demo games in the video games section, and the store never had a promo reel. Whoever was working at the time would choose a movie from the rental section to play instead. Unfortunately we couldn't play anything above PG, so Back to the Future (which is from back before there was such a thing as PG-13) got a lot of play after that came out. (-:
