For Command and Conquer 3 fans, we've seen screenshots of the new GDI units. However, some were perplexed by the lack of Titans, Wolverines, and the appearance of a tracked Mammoth tank.
Just yesterday, on the CNC 3 blog, gives an explination to the lack of mecha:

So what happened to the older, more exotic vehicles?
GDI walkers from the Second Tiberium War (TW2) were hugely expensive to build and maintain. They were also quite temperamental on the battlefield. The advantages conferred by their all-terrain capabilities were offset by cost, poor reliability, and easily exploited vulnerabilities.
It's an interesting explination, and they even state real life examples in which new technology sn't as reliable as the tried and true method.
Still, it's kind of loss. The GDI walkers looked cool and had a realistic feel. Oh well, at least the Juggernaught is still in use.
