i found the sword fight at the series finale very lackluster. Broad, slow strokes with the predictable hero cuts enemy's sword in half. It came back to the problem of making Blade look more average than awesome. A few episodes before it the series had been making progress on that problem but it went right back to it in the end.
The cliffhanger - I saw it coming once they were back at Blade's place and knew it was going to happen while watching previous eps. Krista couldn't just keep going back and forth without someone easily tailing or tracking her movements. Even then if someone DIDN'T track her the whole time, when Marcus told Krista that he knew where Blade's hideout was, didn't she think that he probably knew about her too?
However, I DO want to find out what happens to Krista after Marcus' reveal. Shen proved worthy of a Blade character by showing some testicular fortitude and ingenuity with his fight. Good guy, and best tech guy for Blade yet out of the movies(excluding Whistler)
Honestly I watched the first 6 or so episodes but got tired of the show and only caught it once in awhile afterwards. Ironically Blade was probably at the bottom of the ladder for my reasons to watch. The apex being of Blade's lack of cool toughness followed by his father returning and Blade turning into the typical "I don't have a father anymore" type. Krista, Shen, Marcus, and Chase were all more interesting to me. Maybe its because they were new and fresh, but I think they were better written too.

boooooooooooo
The show was much better than I thought it was going to be. Sure it had room to improve but what 1st season show doesn't.
These networks want to make sure I have 0 incentive to try new shows they way they keep killing shows after 1 season (or the dreaded 1/2 season kill).
It was a good show, sucks it ended on a cliffhanger.
I can't say that I'll miss it......
If you're going to name the show Blade, at least get a convincing Blade. Then after you do that, have him on screen for more than 5 minutes per episode.
9 times out of 10, when a movie is adapted to a TV show with a different lead, the show inevitably gets canned. This is no exception.

This is very dissappointing. I really enjoyed this show. It was one of the rare shows out there that got better with each episode. I really hope the show isn't cancelled because that is a very silly move on Spike tv. I thought the show brought ratings to the channel. My only guess could be that it was cancelled because of costs.

Well, I;m sorry to hear it got cancled. Maybe they could continue it as a series of Tvmovies instead of just canceling completly.

The show's premiere had good ratings, but the ratings dropped substantially for future episodes. They weren't very good at all.

I suppose this was to be expected.:( I figured since spike was desperate for ratings they might be willing to let it live. I can't think of many shows I like that have lasted for more then a season. It seems like now a days if a show isn't an instants blockbuster hit with ratings then its cancelled.

Wow, that is just wrong on so many levels. Not only did the show get better as it went along, but it was the only thing worth watching on Spike TV. Guess I have no reason to ever turn that station on again. Just like how the only thing worth watching on Fox is The Simpsons as they have cancelled everything else that was good.

Of course, if a show based off an American comic book series gets cancelled after one season, what does that say for the fate of a show based off a manga series?
There's only 5 episodes in the OVA, so be glad?

Yeah, even if Spike TV doesn't pick up more, it was scheduled for 5 episodes in the first place.

And that means what to me? I have never heard of Afro Samurai, and it sounds like a lame rip off of Samurai Shamploo, which was already terrible.

Actually, Afro Samurai started off as a manga back in the mid-90's, so it isn't ripping off anything. Also, it's Samurai Champloo, not Shamploo. Also, Champloo is good.
Edit: You can see the trailer at it's official website: http://www.afrosamurai.com/
lso, Champloo is good.
Thats debatable.

Like most pilots, which aren't usually good, the creators of Blade: The Series had a chance to suck (no pun intended) a lot of people in. And with the big ratings that it had, it's too bad that the pilot really wasn't good. It didn't help either with the casting of a "controversial" choice for Blade.
The reason I stuck with the show was for the reason that pilots usually aren't good, but as a series progresses, a lot of the time a series will improve. With Blade: The Series, that happened. The problem though unfortunately was because the pilot wasn't good, people dropped the show there.
The pilot was filmed months before the rest of the series was and so Kirk Jones was still coming into the role both athletically and acting wise (though IMO it didn't change much acting wise).
But the show runners were confident that it was coming back for a second season and there for we got that annoying cliffhanger style of an ending. And now, because of that ending, and the cancelling of the series, I will not be buying the series on DVD. I was going to because I thought it would make a great addition to the Blade story (since it was continuing where the movies left off), but sadly now, I will be passing over this.
I gave the show a chance after the pilot. It paid off for me entertainment wise because it was a good show with a rather smart and risky take on following the vampires more than Blade. It took me some time to get used to Kirk Jones, but in the end I accepted him.
I feel bad for everyone involved in the show, because not only was that a pay check, but everyone did seem very passionate and excited about what they were doing. It's too bad audiences didn't feel the same way.

This series is coming to DVD? I highly doubt that.
However, if it did, I like you, will not be buying it without a second season in the works. Maybe if they make some announcement that they are going to do a direct to video movie as a conclusion, I would, but right now, I won't.

Sometimes, it's necessary to learn to live with things and take your pleasures where you can get them :D. The DVD would have hours of entertainment. A cliffhanger? OK, that sucks. But at least we'd get something, and it would be as we remembered at, with no revisionist history.
I stopped watching about halfway through. I thought that much of the sex, violence, and language was just gratouitous, and that the plot wasn't particuarly involving. Shame, though. Us comic book geeks so rarely have anything for us on T.V. Ah, I need a girlfriend ;).

TVShowsonDVD.com reported yesterday that New Line Home Entertainment is already talking about releasing the first and only season to DVD sometime in the near future, but no release date or time frame is known at this time.

One of the biggest flaws to me was that they followed that one detective throughout most of the season in a side story, and then he finally meets Blade and he's killed in the same episode. I mean, why the hell did they waste all that time following his story just to kill him off like that?

Yes, and am I the only one who thought that much of the sex and violence and language was grauitously unnecessary and just there to show off the fact that the show was on cable?

Perhaps he was going to come back to life next season. Now we'll never know.

Don't forget the fact that they seemed to have forgotten about Boon and dropped his plot quickly after Marcus thought he was dead.

Too bad. It wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting. And sometimes, pretty good. I liked that Blade was hardly the main character. "Sticky Fingaz" was mediocre at best (and didn't seem to be able to fight), so the show was able to get other things going for it.
If it had returned, I would have watched. Now, I won't have too hard a time forgetting it.

Hmmm...I missed one or two episodes near the beginning of the series, but I really don't remember that much sex. The only two sex scenes I recall were the one with Chase and her ex and the one with Marcus and Krista. And I don't remember seeing very much detail in either of them. Actually, I was kind of dissappointed that we didn't get more detail in the Marcus Krista sex scene. I mean, all we got was a shot from across the roof. Well, I guess they can't get away with much more than that on basic cable...

Ah! Ah! Ahaaaa! I'm not the only one! Although based on the numbers that might just mean that TWO people are crazy, instead of it just being my opinion alone that the violence and sex was gratuitous.
The most gratuitous and equally funny aspect of that being how they can say the four letter S word beacuse of the show's content and how late at night it was on. But honestly, I bet the reason is because South Park did it, so they were like, "oh! Dude! We should do that! We'll look cool!" :p
I'm sorry. Call it cynicism.....because it pretty much is. lol.
Seriously though, I am sad the show is taking a dive, because it did do certain things well and it could have gone up from there. It's mainly about the lost potential. Plus I'm madly in love with Krista. I saw the actress in a car commercial. I was like, "dude, she's the new It-Girl! Sweet!" Ah well.
I have to admit, though, my first reaction to this news was laughing out loud. I guess I saw it coming, as most of us obviously did. The actors did really great jobs.

Yes, M*A*S*H did come to mind. So did Stargate SG-1. It's just that most of the time, people can't adapt.

I dont think we can count the show in continuity with the movies.
In the first movie, when Whistler is talking to the doctor, he says he found Blade out on the street and nearly killed him until he found out what he really was. According to the show, Whistler was invited in by his parents.
With that said I think the show was great. Yea it could have used a lot of work, but I was following it regularly and I am not an avid tv watcher. I liked the double crossings and the chaos within all the Houses. Obviously Jill Wagner being awesome goes without saying. All of the main characters were great. It really gave the vampires perspective well...much like us rooting for the mob in all the mob movies.
