What characters have disappeared forever without their disappearance being explained in the show?

South Park

Cartman has a father and siblings in the uncut pilot, but they disappeared when the series started.

Kenny's siblings disappeared after a while.

The Simpsons

Troy McClure disappeared after Phil Hartman died.

Same with Lionel Hutz.

Kenny's siblings are still around, they just aren't shown very frequently. You can see them in season 9's "Best Friends Forever".

The dissappearances in TF and GIJoe could be easly explained as the where dispacthed else where while the newer characters came. As far as TM The Moive it was 20 years between end of season 2 and and TM The Moive and another year between the Moive and season 3. Things change and people (or robot) do other things and move around for a bit. I think if TM were to have gone on for another couple more seasons you would have seen some characters reintroduced into the story like Prime was. Thats what happend for the final year of GI Joe, Duke,Stormshadow, Flint, Falcon, etc all came back. For characters that dissapear during the course of a mission I just call that sloppy and for as great as GIJOE and TF were they were sloppy.

I think in one of the earlier episodes of King of the Hill, there's a boy named Garth who I'm guessing is supposed to be Boomhauer's son.

He never does re-appear.

Scrappy-Doo any one? Why we all know why he disappeared, no one gives a real explanation on the show as to why he's not there any more. But we do know he once exsisted with what Shaggy said in the Hawaii movie interviews.

Going over the He-Man DVD set i get a few weeks back reminded me of Lizard Man. He appeared in like 2-3 early season 1 episodes as one of He-Man's allies and then never appears or is mentioned again.

"Fairly OddParents": In the original short/pilot for the series, Vicky mentions having a "brother" she managed to get into trouble with her parents (via framing him for having a naughty magazine), though we only hear him screaming over a phone. Said brother's never mentioned again after the pilot---Tootie becomes Vicky's only sibling.

In Dragon Ball Z, Lunch was removed without any explaination and King Pilaf didn't returned until DB GT if we can include this one as well.

Here's some more Characters that disappeared without explanation from the following animated cartoons per se.

Snapper Carr ('Justice League') - Correct me if I wrong about this tv reporter character's non-appearance in 'JLU'

Special Agent Faraday ('JLU') - After appearing in three episodes, Agent Faraday mysteriously 'disappeared' for the rest of the season.

Rasta man ('The PJ's') - a character who is completely hidden in smoke, 'disappeared' in the following seasons of this claymation animated series.

Mama Miao ('Sagwa') - I've missed a few episodes of this series, because I noticed that Sagwa, Dongwa, & Sheegwa's Mom is missing and there's no mention of her from the other characters. I wonder what happened to her?

Capt. America, Thor, & Iron Man ('Avengers') - In this much maligned and long defunct animated series, these top tier heroes were only seen at the end of the cartoon's opening credit, but not in the series, my guess is that they were left out to highlight the other Avengers, thank goodness that was remedied with the 'Ultimate Avengers' DTV cartoon series;).

I say of the JLU characters, AMAZO is the one who really seemed to disappear. They actually did give a reason for that in Wake the Dead.

Grundy was feeding off AMAZO's energy, so he "retreated several light years distance until [he] could figure out how to counter [Grundy's] effect."

May not be the best way to write him out, but considering AMAZO was near divine power, they couldn't exactly keep him in the JLU's roster.

Bulma parants: They were last seen halping trunks looking for the DB radar and never seen or heard again.

Bra: She was last seen when everyone saw the evil dragons pop up from the DB`s. She never show up when everyone try to help vegeta&goku fight the last dark dragons. daddy little girl my foot.

Black moon sisters: Never show in any SM ep`s past R.

Yulie parants: They only show up in the first ep of RW but never seen again.

Doofus and all other Beagle Boys (aside from Ma, Burger, Bigtime, Baggy, and Bouncer) disappeared in Ducktales season 2 after Bubba and Gizmo-Duck were brought in. Donald also quit making guest appearances. Also, Magica only appeared in one post season-1 episode I believe.

The first season of Code Lyoko did that alot. There were actually a couple episodes that introduced new characters that were important for that episode only then forgotten for good.

I second Yin from the Batman After Gordan showed up she and the Chief vanished. Now I hated the chief anyway but I liked Yin.

Here's what I remember about the Avengers cartoon and the lack of the "big three". At the time Fox was still planning on doing a solo Captain America show and didn't want to be overexpoused on the Avengers cartoon, as for Thor I remember reading in Toyfare about a DTV anitmare Thor movie that never came about and as for Iron Man, at the New Line was going to be making a Iron Man movie which was rumoured to star Tom Curise which would then have a series based off of it but neither the movie nor the series ever came to be.

The Avengers cartoon wasn't the worst cartoon ever; it's just that it wasn't the avengers, if it had been an original concept then I don't think people would have hated as much as they did.
