Though I loved both greatly, I always favoured the Jetsons when I was younger. But, even so, to prove my loyality to both, my favourite movie when I was a kid was Flintstones Meet the Jetsons. =]

Now, I like the Flintstones better. It seems funnier, for some reason.

I"m sure most people will agree that the Flintstones is ultimately superior, even if they personally prefer the Jetsons.

Not only did the Flintstones last longer, but it was more original, it had more interesting and likable characters, and it was just executed better.
Hanna-Barbera only did the Jetsons to cash in on what seemed to be a formula for success-- take a standard sitcom family and move them to a different time/place. They didn't take into account that people also liked the characters on the Flintstones, not just the animal appliance gags. While the Jetson's world may have been more interesting and enticing, the characters were often bland and cliched.
In the Flintstones, the humour almost always came from the characters (not counting the gags about their stone-age appliances). In the Jetsons, the characters themselves weren't very funny, and their interactions with each other were pretty dull. That show relied more on jokes about futuristic technology, and once you got past the initial humour in seeing a machine prepare George for work or watching dinner make itself, it became a pretty boring series.

I've always been more of a fan The Flintstones than The Jetsons. Don't get me wrong, The Jetsons is a fairly decent show, but The Flintstones are all over them in this one.

I agree with the general opinion.
I love both and I remember watching both as a kid.
I bought dvds of both shows, and now that I watch them as an adult I can appreciate everything each one had to offer, and though I can see why the Flintstones ended in season 6, I still think it outdid the Jetsons in many ways.

I also think The Flintstones are timeless because many people did, still do and will relate to the characters (the housewife or the working man) while in The Jetsons, George worked for three hours a day and Jane would shop a lot (which Wilma didn't really do). And they would both complain about having to deal with pressing buttons. I don't think anyone can currently say that they relate to that lifestyle and while, like someone else said already, that is amusing at first, after some time, it gets old. And somewhat annoying.

Yet, I do love The Jetsons, I will finish buying the dvds and I will probably watch it in the future. :p

I have to agree with the majority of voters on this one; THE JETSONS was
good, but THE FLINTSTONES was way better.

*Why hasn't Kolbar posted?* for me personally I would have to choose "The Flintstones". Not only was it original, but it can withstand the test time, something the Jetsons can not do as well. Not to mention HB creativity with modern appliances turned prehistoric :D. And above all, the cast was enjoyable. Jetsons didn't even have neibhors, and flintstones had Barney and Betty!

Can you imagine the flintstones with no Barney and his chuckle? Or Betty and her giggle? Those reasons alone are why I love the Flintstones.

I think it is odd, too, that we never saw the Jetsons' neighbors. I mean,
surely there were other tenants in the Skypad Apartments!

I like Flinstones after Pebbles was born but I don't own any of the dvd sets. On the other hand, I own the only Jetsons dvd release - Season 1.

well the Jetsons didn't come on as often as the Flinstones so that always made Jetsons episodes more special, the concepts were similar yet both entertaining and even with my biased for liking dinosaurs and watching a lot of Flinstones i think i liked the futuristic Jetsons more,

for some reasoni don't really feel like buying the box sets, maybe my mind will change later wheni want to be nostalgic,

Easy for me: the Flintstones. The gadgets were amusing, but so were the characters and their myriad of situations they got involved with, as well as the various cast of minor characters (Joe Rockhead, Mr. Slate). It's also probably the only cartoon (if not maybe one of the only TV shows) where (if the spinoffs count) we've seen the characters shown at almost every point of their lives----from Fred as a 10-year-old to Fred as a grandparent.

Meanwhile, the Jetsons seemed mostly tied to its "Blondie" inspiration (and I never liked "Blondie")---lots of cool gadgets, but George is utterly miserable thanks to his mean-spirited sawed-off excuse for a boss, Mr. Spacely (whose schtick involves firing George almost every chance he gets). And yes, George, Jane, etc. don't seem to have much of a life beyond work and dealing with their cool futuristic gadgets. I'm reminded of that book "Bowling alone" about how isolated modern society has gotten vs. in years past (where people were in bowling leagues, community groups, etc. a lot more). While Fred always wanted a better life for his family, the Flintstones and Rubbles seemed pretty happy with their life anyway---and were heavily involved in charities, bowling leagues, socializing, etc. Meanwhile, the Jetsons seemed more like, well, those people who live in subdivisions with huge lots for their homes---time spent working (at soul-draining jobs needed to pay for their huge homes/cool stuff) and doing isolated stuff with whatever their gadgets are, with little socialization with neighbors.

Yeah, so I overthought it. :-)
