I don't own it, but I've rented it. If you're a fan of the show and you collect DVDs, it's a must-have.
The primary bonus is getting to see the shows unedited (unlike how they've aired on CN), and you get the option of English or Japanese (with subtitles) dialog, and the performances by the original Japanese cast are quite superior to those of the English dub. IMO, out of the English cast, only Melissa Charles (Ed) and Wendee Lee (Faye Valentine) do justice to the performances by the original actors, but Wendee's still pales to Megumi Hayashibara incredibly-sexy Faye.
The set is kinda light on extra features (comparing to other DVD box sets), but it's a pretty nice total package, IMO.

The only reason you would want to buy the CB box set is if you wanted the Cowboy Bebop Soundtrack Volume 1. Otherwise, buy all the discs separately and save 20 bucks.

There's a great anime store near where I used to live in Memphis, TN called ANIMAX. They offer a huge rental inventory, though it's mostly on VHS. They finally started offering anime for rental on DVD last May.
They used to have a website at http://www.animaxmem.com/ but I guess it wasn't profitable for them. The domain's expired now. But the store is still there in Memphis.

It's on Summer Avenue, off I-40 (near Perkins, I think). Been there since '97, as far as I know.
I lived in Memphis for most all my life and didn't know about the store until 2 years ago - my brother and I happened to pass by it one day on our way to a video game exchange store, and visited just about every week after that. They had (and still do have) a big selection of Japanese import Transformers - always fun to look at. They also have a wide assortment of anime soundtracks, and I considered buying the ones for Cowboy Bebop, but $25 a piece was just too expensive for my budget. (I prefer to buy CDs second-hand - they're much cheaper.)
Be careful where you shop if you buy the boxed set. I've visited three stores and found three different prices.
Suncoast = $199
Local game/comic/novelty shop = $185
Camelot = $169
... and on Amazon.com it's listed for $159 (plus shipping).
