Ah guild wars rises again to tempt me
Allthough I'm never sure if I can make a commitment to an MMORPG, because the players themselves are the dual edged sword.
The levels certainly do look nice though, if anything I've always wondered how forgiving the systems are in this game, I heard it's easier to aquire decent stuff and explore a good part of the world within a very short period of time

Guild Wars really is a beautifully rendered game. Quite possibly the best looking game I've ever seen.
A real shame, too, that I wasted $50 on it's incredibly boring gameplay. Pity.
Oh, and forcing everyone who plays it to endure an obscenely large download to play a new portion of the game that will only be available for two days? I understand it's to give players a "taste" of the new expansion and all, but they're essentially spending several hours downloading an entire expansion that they won't even be able to access in a matter of hours down the line--which they will then have to go out and buy if they want to regain those items and characters again. It's...poor business planning, if you ask me.
But hey, I pretty much washed my hands of the whole game after about two hours, so what do I know?

^^ I agree... It looks nice, but it bores me to death. I remember playing the beta, thinking that maybe it would get better when it came out...

Trust me, a lot of people want it. If something like that were done for, say, World of Warcraft's upcoming expansion, the community would be all over it. When players enjoy a MMO they can't get enough new content, or hear enough talk about it. That's been my experience, anyway.

Oh, I understand that--but to download an entire expansion and just take it away two days later? Let everyone have access to a kind of 'trial' area of the expansion or something, a couple of new items, whatever. But the entire thing? I don't know, it seems like it's too much over nothing.
It's the 'for two days only' thing I'm tripping over, here. A one-time event to open up a new area or expansion? Fine. WoW does it all the time. But they didn't have an event to open the gates of Ahn'Quiraj only to close it a week later. It's a 'taste' of the expansion, I got it, but it just doesn't work in my head. Of course, like I said, I found the game too boring for my personal tastes, so my opinion probably isn't valid.

Well, I'll grant that I wouldn't want to play new content and get some amazing item on my main character only to lose it after 2 days. From a test standpoint though, its a good opportunity. Its giving people a sample and a reason to buy the next expansion. As far as live updates WoW has a great thing going, they just throw up public test realms and let people go wild.
I guess Guild Wars could do more with it, but as a WoW player I'm getting information on Burning Crusade second hand until release because they aren't doing an open beta this time. So at least the GW players at large are getting something.
I used to play GW constantly, but only because I was constrained to dial-up. Now that I'm on HSI, it just doesn't hold a candle to BF2 and a few other games.
GW was a good dial-up game though. Even the huge 32 HoH battles in the old day played relatively smooth.
Too bad those days are dead and gone. I would probably still be playing if they were kept in.

I understand that, it would just suck to be one of those players who had only dialup for those two days, though. Seems like a bit of a tease, is all.
As far as my reaction, I don't want to say it was negative. I still play it from time to time, and it is an excellently put together game. It simply...underwhelmed me. I can't quite explain how or why; maybe because you're pretty much on your own the entire time (part of the fun from WoW and, yes, even FFXI, came from random encounters with really cool people going the same way), or that fights could literally go on forever with the right (wrong?) kind of skill/class setup. >shrug< I can certainly respect the effort put into it, but it just wasn't my bag, I guess.

I quit GW because the developers and community rendered Assassins useless....sorry if i'm not interested in Nightfall.
