Just got an interesting e-mail from Michael Hayde, who told me that a.a.p. merged with Flamingo Films in the early 50's. The merged company took the name "Motion Pictures For Television". MPFT produced "Superman" with George Reeves.
Then a.a.p. and MPFT spilt up. MPFT bought the "Superman" cartoons from Paramount, while a.a.p. bought the WB movies, as well as the Popeye cartoons from Paramount.
So "Superman" was really an "a.a.p." production.

Interesting. The Superman series started in 1951, and Elloitt Hyman didn't make his Warner Bros. and Paramount film buys until 1957 -- the same year Superman's TV run ended -- so that if the two companies merged to do the TV show, that would push AAP's origins back six years earlier than at least I thought it was.
Argus, did Michael's note say AAP was called AAP before the Flamingo merger, or did it go by a different name and was then renamed Associated Artists Productions after the break-up?

You know what, it might have been known by a different name possibly PRM. It may be possible that Flamingo could have merged with AAP during Superman's first season, then they may have broken up.

Wait a minute. I always thought that Motion Pictures for Television was a production company started up by DC Comics themselves.
