Does anyone even remember this show. It was like Ren & Stimpy. I remember it came with two back-up cartoons. One was about a possum that was a super hero and the other one was about cowboys.

I remember this show, and it was pretty awful. One thing that I will give it credit for is being more violent than a lot of other cartoons at the time. I remember in one episode of the cowboy cartoon coyotes ate this guy and nothing was left of him but his bones.

This was a Disney Afternoon show that aired on Fridays and only lasted one season. Each show had three shorts. The first was based on the title characters, the second was a superhero spoofish thing called "Pith Possum" and the third, generallyu shorter, short was "Tex Tinstar." I don't remember liking "Shnookems & Meat" all that much, but "Pith Possum" was pretty good. Tex Tinstar was very silly, moved fast and continued a storyline from week to week (sort of in a Rocky and Bullwinkle manner). I wouldn't mind catching it or Pith Possum again some day.

One was about a possum that was a super hero and the other one was about cowboys. The Shnookums and Meat Funny Cartoon Show - with its two other cartoons, Pith Possum - Superdynamic Possum of Tomorrow, and the ridiculously serialized Tex Tinstar: The Best In The West - ran for about half a year on the Disney Afternoon in the same experimental year Gargoyles premiered.

It was very much in the wild absurdist mould of Ren & Stimpy, and was highly Y7, with plenty of acts of senseless cartoon violence and bizarre, out-there plots.

It was created and directed by Eek! the Cat's Bill Kopp and shared a lot of that show's penchant for mayhem and pop culture references, but with more fluid animation.

I enjoyed it quite a bit, and thought it was a shame when it ended (I wanted to find out what happened to Tex Tinstar).

I doubt it's on top of Seth MacFarlane's resume.

I doubt it's on top of Seth MacFarlane's resume.

May as well be. I doubt he's ashamed of anything he's done. Johnny Bravo is some of his best work.

This was a very funny show.
Many of the people who worked on Ren & Stimpy did work on this show.
It should be released on DVD. There was only 13 episodes, why not?
Shnookums & Meat was originally sandwhiched between shorts on "Marsupilami".
Pith Possum & Tex Tinstar were hilarious shorts as well. It was very creator-driven for it's time.

I must agree that Pith Possm was the better of the 3 features of that show. I taped and saved about 6 PP episodes for my video library. Also interesting to noted, that Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond) did the voice work of the police Commisioner and some of the villians, in that series.

I remember the title of the show and clearly remember the character design, but all I remember about the show itself, like everyone else, is that it was Disney's watered-down answer to Ren & Stimpy. I never found it quite as funny as R&S, though.
