I've heard that this person who seems to be in the credits of alot of Sunrise's show's is just pseudonym the staff uses for itself, maybe some kind of thing that's been passed down through the studio halls as some kind of running gag?

A few Gundam FAQs basically say the same thing. "Hajime Yadate" is a pen name essentially meaning "everyone that works here at Sunrise". Sort of the Borg collective of anime

Hajime means beginning, I think...no clue on Yadate.
