Only the best place to get your anime DVD and manga of course! Suncoast is back in business and there library is just as good as ever. after missing them for a few months it good to have suncoast to go back to. FYI Suncoast was closed for a while. BTW maybe not all have opened back up yet but the one in Long island/NY has! (Green acres mall).:)

Um, Suncoast never left.

They just downsized.

It's been years since I've had a Suncoast anywhere near my current location (closest I last saw one was in Sanford. No clue as to it's status now).

Well, whatever makes LI happy I guess.

Beau is right, Suncoast never disappeared. I went to a Suncoast store at the Horton Plaza in San Diego in July, as a matter of fact. It's nice to hear about your local Suncoast, though.

I had three Suncoasts near me and now I only have the one. I go in there a lot, but I haven't purchased many items there.

Alright! Now I have a place to buy my over-priced anime!

Suncoast never left in my area, and if I'm going to buy anime at near-list, I'm going to buy local.

Besides, part of the reason Suncoast collapsed is because they were not paying the companies for the DVDs they were selling. Their negligent business practices nearly deep-sixed the anime market in fact (CPM's restructuring is basically Suncoast's fault.) Yeah, they are under new management, but I'd still be loathed to buy from them rather than a good local retailer or online retailers who will give me a great big price break. Ditto for manga.

In my area, Suncoasts closed because Best Buy and Fry's Electronics were eating their lunch. Both had better selections - at lower prices - than Suncoast did.

Not to say I didn't think Suncoast was a cool store, though.

If Fry's is closing down Suncoasts in Texas, I can image that, in addition to Austin, you won't find any stores in Houston. Fry's has, like, 3 stores in that city alone.

I wouldn't say that Fry's is closing down all Suncoasts, but certainly some of them.

To use a business analogy, Fry's is like Disney World and Suncoast is like Six Flags. Fry's may be the end-all-and-do-all of DVD/CD stores like Disney World is supposed to be the end-all-and-do-all of amusement parks, but like Disney World, Fry's are large, usually farther away from the customer than smaller specialty stores like Suncoast, and are just so... big!... that they require a whole afternoon to shop through.

Suncoast (and stores like it), on the other hand, are often closer to the customer, even if more expensive. They're also often small enough that you can just run in and run out. So, like how Six Flags competes with Disney World because there are many more of them and they don't take as much time to get to - or visit, there are many more Suncoasts than Fry's and they don't take as much time to get to - or visit.

So, I wouldn't say that Fry's is going to put Suncoast out of business... but it certainly is eating into their market share. (And the only real advantage both of them have over ordering DVDs or CDs over the Internet is that you can have it now instead of having it mailed to you later.)

Funny, I don't have one Fry's in my town.

Fry's only has roughly 30 stores nation-wide, and most of them are in California & Texas. The franchise started in the San Francisco area back in the mid-1980's, and it's been slowly expanding ever since.

I... had to watch a few hours worth of orientation videos when they hired me.

Funny.

There are two Fry's locations here and they barely make a dent in the electronics business (compared to Walmart, that is).

I highly doubt that.
